The English Lake District has recently been given UNESCO World Heritage status so why not take the opportunity to see just why!
There are so many places to visit in the area, from lakes that stretch for miles, fells to climb, to sleepy villages that time appears to have forgotten! to Beatrix Potter. The English Lake District has it all.
If you enjoy a ramble you are spoilt for choice with a myriad of foot paths criss- crossing the fells to explore. The vistas are hard to beat and with many lakes that glint majestically in the sunshine you can see why it has World Heritage status - within a short walk from Woodside there is the most serene and peaceful lake: High Dam. The circular route around the High Dam lakes is a walk for all seasons and often you can be the only people there! High Dam is a place you will never tire of and with its peace and quiet you will feel invigorated and forget all about our hectic 21st centaury life!
Windermere is stunning at any time of year and what better way to see the lake and surrounding area than from the cruise boats from Lakeside that visit Bowness and Ambleside. A fabulous day out can be yours, exploring the area and disembarking at the various stops as the boats make their way around the lake.
At Lakeside there is also the Steam Railway to Haverthwaite to jump on. This vintage steam ride back in time is a must and will enable you to see the stunning countryside of the lakes. When you have had your fill of cruise rides and steam trains then the Aquarium of the Lakes also at Lakeside is a wonderful indoor venue where young and old will be able to see creatures from the deep oceans.
For a museum with a difference you must visit Backbarrow the home of the motor musem and the Donald Campbell Bluebird Collection. This fascinating musem is a must for everyone and especially those interested in vehicles. Also at Backbarrow are the Cliff Hanger Escape Rooms where you are challenged to escape from a locked room; great family fun!
Just a few miles away is Grizedale Forest with its sign posted walking and cycling routes, it is a mecca for people who enjoy fresh mountain air, fabulous views of distant mountains and being with loved ones in the countryside.
The area is well served for cafes serving delicious afternoon tea for when you need a well earned rest! and superb restaurants and pubs many of which welcome dogs. Cartmel has a Michelin star restaurant L'Enclume which was the winner of Best Restaurant 2018.
This is just a taste of what the area has to offer, so why not visit ?
You'll receive a warm welcome in the Lakes with something for everyone to enjoy.
