Description
Alla Collina is a beautifully maintained and exceptionally well equipped private villa set in peaceful Umbrian countryside near Todi, with sweeping views and complete privacy. It combines the comfort and scale of a high-end family home with thoughtful service and generous hospitality that make it outstanding value for a property of this quality.The location is ideal for exploring central Italy. Todi is close by, while Orvieto and Perugia are both within an hour’s drive. Rome can be reached in just over an hour. The surrounding countryside offers excellent local walks and picnic spots, and the setting feels rural and tranquil without being remote.
The main villa comfortably sleeps 8–11 guests. Within the grounds there is also an independent studio (sleeping 2) and a separate guest cottage (sleeping 6). Both are rented exclusively with the main house, offering excellent flexibility for extended families or multi-generational groups who would like additional space and privacy.
The house itself is full of character. The impressive front door opens into a wide, barrel-vaulted corridor with stone-flagged flooring. Three arched glass doors bring in natural light and look out towards the garden. The main sitting room is large and welcoming, with three sets of double doors opening directly onto the terrace and loggia. Opposite is a well-equipped games room with a selection of board games, table tennis and a full-size 8 ft x 4 ft pool table.
The kitchen is designed for serious cooking, with an oversized oven, five gas hobs, dishwasher and large fridge-freezer, along with a full range of cookware and utensils. There is a breakfast table, separate laundry room and cloakroom on the ground floor. Also on this level is the “garden bedroom”, a double room with 5 ft queen bed, en suite bathroom with large shower and direct access to its own patio.
Upstairs there is a second comfortable sitting room with television and guide books. Three further bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms, include the master bedroom with an additional single bed, a double bedroom with an extra single bed, and a loft bedroom with three single beds and its own small sitting area.
The guest cottage offers three bedrooms, bathroom, sitting room and kitchen. The independent studio has a double bed and en suite bathroom. This layout allows large groups to stay together while maintaining personal space.
The private swimming pool is set in a peaceful position with open countryside views towards Todi. The atmosphere throughout is relaxed and welcoming rather than formal.
Service is one of the great strengths of Alla Collina. Giusy, the housekeeper, provides cleaning as part of the rental. She can also cook authentic Umbrian meals, offer cookery lessons, assist with laundry and babysitting for an additional charge. Many guests find her cooking and hospitality a highlight of their stay.
On arrival, the kitchen is generously stocked to help you settle in. You will find olive oil, vinegar, spices, fresh herbs growing in the garden, seasonal fruit, bottled water, local red and white wine, flour, sugar, coffee, tea, milk, butter, jam and fresh bread. Giusy also prepares a lasagna or similar pasta dish for you to finish in the oven, along with salad leaves. Organic vegetables from the garden are available during your stay.

LOCATION
The house sits just below the quaint little hamlet of Monticello. There’s nothing much there: a few houses, a pretty church, fabulous views, ancient stone walls and a timeless atmosphere of Umbrian country life, quietly lived.
Only 5 miles away, the fairy-tale Todi is a thriving hill top town, much favoured by those clever few Italians, Brits and Americans “in the know”. It’s the choice for the savvy traveller looking for something off the beaten track, but nevertheless usefully located. Todi is said to have the most perfect medieval piazza in all Italy, the Piazza del Popolo. There’s a wonderful church by Bramante, a clutch of splendid restaurants, brilliant views from the town walls, plus a couple of shops (just off the main square), stuffed to the rafters with fabulous antique and re-pro brass and copper ware - their candelabra and fire irons are irresistible. A Dream come True

Everything about the property was perfect for us -- from the huge, well-equipped kitchen with views over the hills and the outdoor organic garden, to the comfortable living areas, entertaining game room and large, spacious bedrooms with comforters and pillows you could disappear into... Everywhere we went there were scents of lavender or rosemary from the garden and every evening it took our breath away to watch the sun set over the little town of Todi and the surrounding hills. Our cooking class with Clara was terrific. Despite not being able to communicate in words, we spent the evening laughing and learning from her cooking skills and enjoyed her tremendous energy in overseeing and assisting us during the week. Even though there were many wonderful restaurants in the area, our most enjoyable evenings were spent at Alla Collina, cooking together with fresh produce from the garden, drinking local wines, playing the stereo and playing ping pong!
Renaissance painting

Clara was very friendly: cooked a final banquet for us, and, on another night, gave a cooking lesson on preparing gnocchi. The house was well equipped and in excellent repair.
Beautiful View
By Sally Kitch, Arizona on 07-Jul-2018We enjoyed our stay thoroughly, and every guest we had with us exclaimed over the beauty of the view, the quality of the accommodations, including the extraordinarily fine bathrooms, the marvelous pool, and the fully equipped kitchen and laundry facility. Because the evenings were so wonderful, we often opted to eat at the villa rather than go out. Even the warmest afternoons were made quite pleasant by the pool’s cool waters. Having Clara clean each day was a great help. It was also nice to be able to ask her to do some cooking, although we found it most useful to have her make parts of the meal rather than the whole thing. She works very hard.
