Description

A fully modernised and tastefully restored townhouse centrally located on the West bank of the River Gilao in a very quiet street, just a few minutes walk from Tavira’s main square, historic sights, riverside amenities, restaurants, shops, banks, and ferries to the beaches. The house is single-storey, and high ceilinged, and while it is built with three bedrooms (and is proportioned accordingly) it is offered as two-bedroom accommodation only, for a maximum of four adults. The restoration work was completed in June 2013 to a very high standard and the house has been meticulously maintained since then to keep it in top-class condition. It benefits from a large rear patio (unusual in Tavira’s historic centre) which can also be accessed directly from the street via a side door and entrance passageway. There is free parking available nearby.

The house is registered for rental under Tavira Council license no. 5246/2014.

ACCOMMODATION

The two bedrooms can accommodate a maximum of four adults. They are accessed from the main entrance hall. Both have double beds (one 180x200, the other 160x200), wardrobes, reading lights, and are double-glazed and air-conditioned.

The sitting area has seating for five people, and the dining area seats six.

The kitchen is fully equipped.

There is a large bathroom in the main house with a walk-in shower, double washbasin and WC. It has under-floor heating for winter use. There is a separate shower room in the patio area with shower, washbasin and WC. A hairdryer is provided.

The large private patio (approximately 50m2) at the rear of the house can be accessed via the side entrance from the street. With it's dining table and chairs, parasol, and sitting area it provides a very practical and pleasant extension to the main house for al fresco wining and dining.

The utility room at the rear of the patio houses the washing machine, clothes lines, ironing board, sun loungers, etc. It is perfectly dry and can be used for the temporary storage of suitcases or golf clubs.

BOOKING NOTES

It is regretted that pet animals cannot be accepted, and that rentals are restricted to adults only as the house is not suitable for children.

Bookings are in principle from Saturday to Saturday, particularly during the high season from May to September.

Bathroom towels and bed linen are provided, though not beach towels.

A cleaning service is provided at the end of a stay.

THE REGION/LOCATION

The area is known for the high-quality beaches that run along the ocean side of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The house is less than five minutes walk from the ferries running in summer to the Ilha de Tavira with its splendid beach, bars and restaurants. Quieter nearby beaches to the west of Tavira include Praia da Terra Estreita and Praia do Barril. East of Tavira beaches which include Cabanas, Fabrica, Manta Rota and Praia Verde stretch along the coast towards the Spanish border.

Tavira is 36km by road to the east of Faro airport on the coastal N125 road, and 40km via the A22 motorway. The town can also be accessed from Faro airport by public transport, taxi, or shuttle service. The use of a car in Tavira is not essential. A local railway service runs the length of the south coast of the Algarve.

The Spanish border is 35km to the east, and Seville a further 135km. Seville, like Lisbon, can be reached by direct bus service from Tavira.

The Ria Formosa Natural Park (and the coastal lagoon that it encloses) extends from just west of Faro to a point some twelve kilometres to the east of Tavira, and is considered an important bird area for both resident and migratory species. Bicycles can be rented locally to explore the area and to ride the Algarve Coastal Cycle Route.

Beautifully Equipped and Ideally Located

By Rod Passmore on 29-Jun-2024

Our stay in Tavira was delightful. The property itself was scrupulously clean, provided everything we needed and we enjoyed the additional thoughtful items provided by the host. The property is within easy walking distance of everything we needed… restaurants, grocery stores, bank – and it is an easy walk to the riverfront with its restaurants and bars. The courtyard was a special place for morning coffee, afternoon cocktails or even an evening meal. We so enjoyed our stay that we’ve booked a repeat visit!

Thank you Rod. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay. You and Julia were perfect guests and we look forward to your forthcoming return visit.

Outsanding Experience

By Geoffrey and Sylvia on 17-Nov-2023

On all counts The Old Town House exceeded our expectations. Supported by Richard's detailed and helpful advisories our stay in Tavira was most enjoyable. Having explored the western Algarve some 30 years ago we were delighted to find an atmosphere of the genuine Portuguese culture still alive here in the eastern region. Without hesitation we would recommend this property.

You were most welcome guests Geoffrey and Sylvia! We are delighted that your re-discovery of the Eastern Algarve was without disappointment, and that the house was to your liking. Richard and Marina

Great stay

By Andy Dumont on 12-Jul-2023

Wife and I spent 6 weeks here and it was a great stay. The location is very convenient for everything needed for a great holiday - restaurants, stores, beach ferry, gelato, evening activities, etc. The unit was very clean and had everything needed for our stay. The air con worked well, thankfully, as it was extremely hot during our stay. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. Lots of great information provided in the information book - tried most of the restaurants and were not disappointed. Only downside was it was VERY hot during our stay so we could not get much use of the outside patio area. Communicating with Simply Owners and the property owner was flawless. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an in-town place to call home for a bit of time.

Just perfect!

By Julia Goldsmith on 09-Jul-2022

We had a wonderfully relaxing week at Richard's property. The house was immaculate, spacious and well equipped, with a lovely, private courtyard garden at the rear; the information folder was very comprehensive. The house is very centrally situated with a small grocery store nearby and the ferry just two minutes' walk away. Tavira is a beautiful town with lots of character; there were plenty of restaurants nearby. Richard was very helpful throughout and responded quickly to all my emails. We would definitely recommend this property.

Brilliant real home from home

By Jill & Alan on 05-Mar-2022

We had an amazing week in this lovely bungalow, traditional but with all the modern necessities. Lovely comfortable king sized beds, brilliant outdoor area with comfortable eating/lounging. Very conveniently placed for all Tavira has to offer (which is a lot). Richard provided first class communication and a very thoughtful welcome pack awaited our arrival. Would highly recommend.

Deux semaines fort agréables!

By Evelyne S. on 08-Nov-2018
