Description

3 large bedrooms, great kitchen, among beautiful vineyards with views to the Ligurian Alps
Fully restored by its enthusiastic English/ Irish owners, this comfortable house has become a huge success with everyone who visits. Apart from its setting on a terrace with its own beautiful private pool, surrounded by glorious landscapes and unspoiled local towns, this very characterful house is in an area recently awarded Unesco World Heritage status.

Renowned for its fine wines, Barbera, Dolcetto and Gavi are local, the heavy hitters Barolo and Barbaresco just an hour's drive away.

Fine cheeses, wonderful cured meats, white truffles and porcini mushrooms in season all add to Piedmont’s reputation as a gourmet paradise.
Keen cooks will love the local markets in Acqui Terme and Nizza and find everything necessary for great cooking in the well-supplied kitchen.

Sitting by the pool or on the terrace surrounded by truly rural unspoiled landscape is occupation in itself.
Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the undulating local roads and spectacular views, the more ambitious may hike over any vineyards and farmland that isn't fenced off.

The village shop in medieval Montabone is 10 minutes easy stroll away around a beautiful valley, and Signora Ines supplies everything needed to create great suppers and lunches; otherwise guests can eat well in various good local restaurants including a family option/pizzeria in the village itself. We are spoiled for choice!

Notes on accommodation:
The house has been restored by and for an adult family, not for small children, although small children are welcome; the third bedroom is accessed from the balcony that runs along the front which makes it very private but perhaps not suitable for everyone. We are non-smoking and invite our guests to respect that and to refrain from smoking anywhere inside the house. Please check about pets.

Outside:
Ca' Giona sits in 7 acres of private land, mostly steep woodland, among old terracing and fruit trees. We provide both a large and small table for dining outside throughout the summer. The pool is 10x8m approx (there is a curved section, fitted with broad shallow steps perfect for lounging in the sun), and sunloungers are provided. There is a stone-built pool house, ideal for changing in, and a cold shower by the pool.
The pool is maintained by a professional pool company who attend once a week.

Utility Room:
Large old and very atmospheric barn contains Utility area.
Washing machine, laundry sink, iron, ironing board, folding dryer.

Cleaning / Towels / Linen
All bed linen, bath, hand and swimming pool towels are provided and are of a good quality.
The house is cleaned and all linens changed in preparation for your arrival, and naturally we request that the house is left in good condition on departure

Other:
Inside front door the spacious Office/ Studio contains 2 bookcases filled with fiction and non-fiction.
Blanket box and rugs, small desk and chairs.
Owners use this as an exercise space and entrance hall.
Portico: extends along entire side of house providing comfortable shade throughout the day

Wonderful place for recreation

By Lorenz on 18-Aug-2024

Wonderful tucked away old atmospheric stone house. Panoramic view. Great pool. Not much to do in the way of sightseeing, but Acqui Therme is nice and there a lots of wonderful walks to do. If you want to relax and love good food and wine (the Bennet supermarket 1o min by car has a fantastic offer of food and drinks), this is the right place to go to. Good and easy communications with the owner Ruth and the local caretaker Trevor. Only critical comments: The property would be even better with e.g. a table tennis and e.g. a complete set of badminton. Summary: We had a wonderful week!

À wonderful place

This vacation home is absolutely perfect. A little out of the way but quiet and with a beautiful view. The decor is tasteful and the pool is great. It couldn’t be better!

Charging heart and soul

By Vinca & family on 10-Jul-2022

Ca’ Gione was everything we needed after a intense year. The tranquility, the wonderfull house breathing its history, the pool with the amazing view, and most of all the hearthwarming communication with the owners. It lifted us and our children. Although the temperatures were extreme, we enjoyed our week. Having lunch in the shade of the patio, watching the moon rise behind the hills from the bedroom, all the great restaurants in the area. A place to call home and return.

We loved this house!

By Peter K. on 02-Jan-2017

We had a great holiday here! This place ticks all the boxes - a beautiful quiet rural setting with great views (especially of the sun rising over the distant hills) yet only a fifteen minute walk to the nearby village of Montabone. Not much seems to happen there but that was fine by us - there’s a well-stocked and friendly village stores and deli, plus a very good restaurant ‘La Sosta’. Ruth had provided us with all the information we needed and we were met at the property by the very helpful Trevor and Jess - everything was ready for our arrival and the place was spotlessly clean. The house itself has been beautifully restored and furnished, and - provided you keep the shutters closed in the day - stays nice and cool. We had all our meals under the portico overlooking the vines and the valley below. Night time entertainment was provided by the ghiri, heard but not seen except for a couple of distant glimpses early in the morning, and we were lucky to see one rather lonely firefly - not usually still around in August! Apart from a couple of trips out, to Acqui Terme and Nizza Monferato, we were happy to do little but look at the view, dip in the pool, and have delicious meals - we really couldn’t have had a more relaxing holiday home and can highly recommend it to those looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful but under-rated part of Italy.

Fantastic house!!

Wow - what a great job Ruth and Steven have done here. We enjoyed the most peaceful week ever and loved waking up looking at the beautiful vineyards in the valley everyday. The house is wonderful - has everything you need and refreshingly no TV or Wifi (if you are addicted I got 4G all through the house so no problems with checking emails etc). The bed was comfortable and the house has been renovated to a very high standard. The pool is ultra private and very refreshing in the Italian summer sun. My 11 year old decided he wanted to have a career in pool cleaning after fishing out the bugs daily! We literally cannot wait to come back here. It is wonderfully quiet. The local village is lovely - a lovely village shop and great views. We didn't eat in the village - we were very happy with the amazing produce from Bennett's super market and sitting and eating on the portico of the house every night. I would highly recommend the Piedmont Food and Wine Tour which is recommended in the house welcome book. We had an amazing day visiting 3 vineyards and tasting amazing wine. Was a fantastic day. But on the whole we were just happy staying at Ca' Giona. You will not be disappointed with this lovely house, the amazing views and the local area.
