A spacious bright lounge has two large comfy leather sofas, a TV and hifi, and a selection of books. Outside a private terrace with comfortable seating is the place enjoy panoramic views to the Algarvian hills and the sea.
Away from the villa, set amongst the olive trees, is a traditional Portuguese cisterna which has been turned into a charming swimming pool, a place to cool off in the summer months.
Guests are also welcome to enjoy our tranquil Mediterranean garden filled with a multitude of fruit trees, the perfect place to sit or sunbathe and listen to resident hoopoes and goldfinches.

Two excellent restaurants are 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Orchard House is an ideal base to explore the Ria Formosa national park where you can walk, cycle and birdwatch in unspoilt beauty. A short drive down the coast accesses the beaches at Manta Rota, Monte Gordo, Casto Marim and Praia Verde where bars, restaurants and other facilities are available.

Tavira is a beautiful, historic town with many places of interest such as the beautiful Roman bridge. There are a multitude of restaurants and bars to suite all tastes and budgets. Fresh produce can be purchased every morning apart from Sunday at Tavira’s large indoor market. Leave ReviewWonderful October Week in East Algarve
By Jeremy & Holly on 05-Oct-2024We (British couple in our early 40s) stayed at Wendy & Martin's beautiful olive farm for a week in early October 2024. The farm is lovely, tucked away about 10 minutes drive from Tavira, a beautiful old town with plenty of restaurants, shops and bars to explore. We managed to eat well as two vegetarians without any problems, both at restaurants and buying the excellent local produce. We did hire a car for the trip, but also made good use of the (inexpensive) trainline which runs from Luz (a c15m walk) all the way along the coast, as well as taxis which are easy to pick up via app. The apartment itself was just what we wanted - a good base to explore the lovely surroundings. There is a great balcony with beautiful views of the surrounding groves and farms - perfect for breakfast in the sun. The pool is small but perfect to cool down with a nice patio and loungers to sun-dry afterwards. And its all surrounded by the olive trees, which are very pretty. Our hosts were great - really friendly and offered us excellent advice on the best things to see and do in the area, including great beaches, a newly opened vineyard offering excellent tastings, an amazing converted convent in Tavira, a place to see the local birds (including flamingoes) and even a mud spa! If you do one thing, go to the mud spa! They were also kind enough to provide some of their own produce including their excellent olives and olive oil which we used in almost all the food we made. Communication from the hosts was great before our stay and they were available to answer any questions while we were staying. All in all, I cannot speak highly enough of this little gem of a getaway. A lovely place for a slow-paced, relaxing trip.
Relaxing rural location close to amenities
By Jane Heath on 01-Sep-2024Just returned from 2 weeks at Orchard House. We were looking for something different not too touristy and this seemed to fit the bill. We were not disappointed. Mostly surrounded by farmland the apartment is spacious clean comfortable quiet at night with a vast terrace for relaxing dining table and washing line. Kitchen well equipped with everything you need and once I had learned to drive it I became a convert to cooking on a halogen hob. A joy for us was the refreshing pool set within an olive grove with sunbathing area and comfortable loungers very peaceful and private. As has already been mentioned despite its apparent remoteness it is a short stroll down the lane to the main road and bus route and a small supermarket/coffee shop where you can buy decadent but delicious fresh pastries for breakfast. A Carpentaria restaurant is excellent and highly recommended. The advice we got from Wendy and Martin was brilliant and we took up many of the suggestions - a 40 min drive to Castro Marim and the spa is a must. Exillerating and fun experience floating in a salt pan then coating yourself in the healing black mud and allowing it to bake dry in the sun (best wear a black swimsuit to be on the safe side). Favourite watering hole in beautiful Tavira at Wendy's suggestion was the Irish bar The Black Anchor. Set beside the river fab spot at sunset and good for people watching. Recommend too Wendy and Martin's cooking. Very good and their olive oil delicious. Thanks Wendy Martin and Chester for making us feel welcome
A relaxing and friendly stay.
By Kirsty Graham on 05-Aug-2024Wendy and Martin were exceptional hosts and their apartment was ideal for a wonderful holiday. From the outset they were accommodating and helpful, aiming to make our stay as relaxing and hassle free as possible. The apartment itself was well organised, spacious, clean and comfortable. The terrace was an ideal place for eating and taking in the slower pace of life surrounded by beautiful trees and wildlife. The orchard house feels like it’s away from the crowds but is also well positioned for a more vibrant and sociable scene, just a short commute away from Tavira, Santa Luzia and Fuseta with many places to reach the beaches. Wendy and Martin also had produce from their small farm available to buy and we all loved the olives, figs and Olive oil. We would definitely come again and have already recommended the Orchard House to others.
Long weekend in Tavira
By Sarah on 22-Jun-2024Wendy and Martin were wonderful hosts over my long weekend stay. The property is clean and the atmosphere friendly. They know a lot of interesting places in the area to visit, Wendy’s cooking was delicious and we even created some art together incorporating plants from their gorgeous fruit filled garden. I’m looking forward to a return visit.
Beautiful, peaceful but easy to get around the surrounding Tavira areas
By Pamela Underdown on 18-May-2024We had the most wonderful week at Orchard House recently. Our fabulous hosts Wendy and Martin really looked after us, from a great welcome pack that included their own very tasty homemade olive oil, through to the most delicious meals that they personally cooked and delivered to us (for only €25 a head for 3 courses and homemade liqueur!!) and everything in-between. We felt very much at home, really looked after and very relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Our apartment was very clean and comfortable. We loved the fantastic huge balcony, with stunning view of the countryside and mountains. You can even see the sea in the background. The best part is how peaceful it is. Every morning it was so relaxing to sit out there first thing with a cuppa listening to the birds. The private olive grove that Wendy and Martin own is beautiful. A nice walk through the fruit trees will take you to the private swimming pool for a chilled afternoon in the sun. It's just a 5-10 min walk to the main road where you can get a bus, or order an Uber and go into the local towns and villages. Just €5-10 euros to get to most of the beautiful places in the surrounding area such as Tavira, Fuseta etc. The local shops in Luz de Tavira is a 15 min walk from the apartment. All in all a beautifully peaceful experience, in a lovely place. Highly recommended. Thank you both. And say hi to Chester for me.
