Description

High up in hazelnut country, the main house, Casa Serena, is a beautiful, architect-designed house offering stupendous views (and less torrid temperatures than at sea level) for walkers and sybarites alike. The mountains soars above, the green valley plunges below and the view across to the town of Polizzi Generosa, perched on its rocky ridge, is spectacular. Casa Serena is fully open-plan downstairs, with sweeping polished concrete floors and lofty white walls, and a super kitchen wrapped around a central sculptural stair. It is furnished with cutting-edge LED lighting, abstract paintings, modernist furniture, an outdoor barbecue and swinging bench. The custom-designed property is well insulated against both the summer heat and winter cold. Guests have the choice of peaceful days spent in its shady, wooded garden, with its collection of sculpture -- or swimming in the scenic, landscaped pool. For more energetic guests, extensive mountain walks can be accessed from the front gate. Nature lovers can't fail to be entranced by the unspoilt landscapes, the unexpected beech woods and the rugged vistas of the Madonie National Park (maps and guidebooks supplied).

The town of Polizzi Generosa with food shops, cafes and restaurants, is only 4 kms drive... and the nearest restaurant is 2.5kms away; and for those looking for cultural days out, there are a number of fascinating historic sites -- Greek, Roman, Norman, Arab and Baroque -- within easy reach. The nearest beaches can be reached in less than an hour by car.

Casa Serena is available from mid-July to mid-September at £325 per night or £2200 per week (maximum occupation 5 people). It can be booked together with the Garden Guest House (P259182) to sleep 8/9 people @ £3200 per week during the same period. Minimum rental, 7 nights.

Wonderful! Slightly reluctant to tell anyone about it to be honest. Firstly the area is as unspoiled as you could hope for. We didn''t meet another English person for the whole time we were there. The views are stunning. We had 33 degrees but the house was cool. The pool was immaculate everyday. More than enough space for relaxing and dining. The garden is a delight. It''s quiet but near enough (with a car) for beach days, trip into the mountains, other parts of the island. Well equipped kitchen etc, and the bookshelves are well stocked! A Real Gem, Wonderful Stay

Wonderful stay at the garden house. We loved sunbathing by the pool, surrounded by mountain peaks and a stunning valley - Sicilian sun but with fresh hilltop air. The house is beautifully designed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The huge garden is full of colourful flowers and quiet spaces. After a hot day out it was a perfect oasis. Carl provides great info on all the places to visit, restaurants and walks. Nearby Polizzi Generosa, a beautiful hilltop town, is tourist-free. Ask Nino the gardener about fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden. A real gem for us. We''ll definitely return. Jonathan, London Aug 2022
