The villa was much larger than it appeared in the photos, spotlessly clean, and so thoughtfully designed. Everything we needed for a perfect holiday had already been considered — it felt like a real home away from home. A huge bonus was the heated pool, which was absolutely wonderful in late September. It made such a difference to our stay, and having now experienced it, this is something we’ll always look for when booking in Portugal in the future.The villa is around a 25-minute walk to the local village, where we found a lovely restaurant offering a menu of the day: bread, a main course, dessert, coffee, and even a drink (including half a litre of wine!) — all for just €11. The village square is beautiful, with the sound of the church bells adding to the charm, and the nearby beach is very safe for children, making it ideal for families. The hosts, Tim and Sharon, were fantastic. Their pre-arrival information made the whole process smooth and stress-free, and they were always on hand for any advice or local tips throughout our stay. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate — highly recommended!

By Yvonne on 07-Dec-2025We had the pleasure of spending the week at Monte Calicos in July 2025. There was 8 of us in total but the Villa still felt very spacious and had plenty of room for all us! The facilities were on point and there was nothing Sharon and Tim, the wonderful hosts hadn't thought of. We really made the most out of the villa, with lazy days round the pool and great food on the barbecue in the evening. The little town of Moncarapacho was an absolute hidden delight, truly authentic Portuguese living, it is beautiful and well worth a visit. Thank you Sharon and Tim for a beautiful holiday and we will be back!
Beautiful, peaceful villa with stunning views

It is spacious and well equipped. The pool was warm and looked amazing lit up at night. We were happy relaxing around the pool and taking trips in to Moncarapacho either by taxi or walking. If you want to explore the area further you would need to hire a car. Just a tip if you are walking in to the town. It’s just a 25 minute stroll if you are able bodied but the track is uneven so wear trainers not flip flops and take a torch if you want to walk back in the evening. Otherwise it’s a short trip by taxi/car. Sharon and Tim are wonderful hosts. So welcoming, kind and helpful. They set up a WhatsApp group so we could contact them throughout our stay. What more could you want apart from sunshine, food and wine and we had plenty of that! We would love to return and explore the area further. We would not hesitate to recommend Villa Monte Calicos. So if you are hesitant, don’t be. Go ahead and book. You will not be disappointed. Ann, Lynn, Julie and other halves
Home from home

The area is beautiful, just a short car journey from the beach with easy access to many little gems of villages with delightful restaurants. Take a ferry across to Spain for a day trip, have a sightseeing boat trip around the Rio Formosa and learn the history of the islands. It’s only a short walk into Moncaropacho where there are some lovely restaurants and local shops. This was our fourth time staying at the villa and it never gets old. We ventured to an octopus restaurant and a micro pub this year on recommendation of our wonderful hosts Sharon and Tim and they didn’t let us down. We would recommend a visit to both. It has also been lovely to just relax at the villa, soaking up the sun, enjoying the pool and calming surroundings. We love the area and villa so much we can’t wait to come back again next year!

Such a peaceful location too and close to Tavira and Olhao for lovely day excursions and delicious fish restaurants. Sharon and Tim were so hospitable and offered useful tips on the area.
Another fantastic holiday

The villa is really spacious, spotless and the views are amazing. The surrounding garden is beautiful and the heated pool was really nice. Great place to have a BBQ on the warmer days, but also nice that we could use the wood burner in the living room during the (somewhat) cooler evenings. The kitchen has all you need (even a cheese slicer for us Dutchies ;-) The wifi has a really fast connection. The surrounding area is really beautiful and has nice villages, beaches and places to visit and great restaurants. Sharon and Tim are really knowledgeable and helpful, the perfect hosts. What better place to stay during the big black out in April 2025. We already booked for 2026! Sharon and Tim thanks again for everything and see you next year!
