The Lunigiana region is the Northernmost area of Tuscany, bordering on the region of Liguria. It is an area of unspoilt beauty and history, as yet untouched by commercial mass tourism.

This peaceful inland location is filled with ancient villages and hill-top hamlets, with over 100 castles – testament to it’s long fought over strategic position.

A stay based in the region lets you step back in time, whilst enjoying the relaxed pace of local life and indeed, feeling like a local – be it at a village market or at one of the many festivals held throughout the year.

For those who love history and are fascinated by local legends, this is the area for you. In the middle ages, Lunigiana, lost among valleys that open up before the mountain ranges of the Appenine and Apuan Alps, was home to 160 castles, 30 of which are still in a good state of preservation and many can today be visited and explored.

This green landscape, compromising of magical and mysterious forests, is rich in rare fauna and flora. It is criss-crossed with hiking and biking routes, including the ancient Via Francigena renowned by pilgrims throughout the centuries, this trail extends from Canterbury in England down through to Rome.

Visitors have the option to be as relaxed or energetic as they wish in this scenic territory

The added bonus is the close proximity of the Italian Riviera, with its famous resorts of Santa Margherita, Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Also within easy short travelling distances are numerous blue flag beaches, from Marina di Massa down through to Viareggio. The cities of Genoa, Pisa, Parma, Lucca and indeed Florence are also easily accessible both by car and public transport for day excursion possibilities.

Enjoy a welcome from a very helpful hostess. Beautifully furnished in an old classic style, wonderfully quiet location. Nice garden with a nice pool. Centrally located, restaurants nearby.

Hidden Gem in the middle of a small village overlooking the mountains. Wake up every morning to the singing of the many birds in a charming, characterful house in a quiet yet ideal location for trips. Beautiful garden with refreshing pool, all the necessities in the house are present, very clean accommodation, in the village you will find everything you need, here you are in authentic Italy..... I can keep going.
