Quinta das Casuarinas. - For over 30 years has been our first or second home! A traditional Portuguese villa - NOT YOUR USUAL RENTAL ! A spacious, very well equipped and comfortable family home. Set in 3 acres, on a south facing hillside. .The luxury of space inside and out and in a lovely rural setting, secluded but not isolated, enjoying extensive views towards Portelas, Lagos and the sea, A 5 minute drive into Lagos ( or a very cheap Uber ride if you don't fancy driving ).WE HAVE A FEW GAPS FOR THIS SUMMER - 2025!

We now appreciate that travelers are looking for a 10 day or so break and not the old traditional Saturday to Saturday!
Quinta das Casuarinas is away from any developments and close to the village of Portelas - the village has a small shop, a couple of bars and Portuguese restaurants serving local dishes, BBQd fresh fish, prawns etc . Plus delicious steaks , Chicken Piri Piri etc
A stones throw away from the historic old town of Lagos and all its 21st century facilities, beautiful golden sandy beaches and many, many restaurants and beach bars to suit all tastes! .
A welcoming, family friendly villa, with space for children to play, a private pool ( with underwater lighting for night swims ) surrounded by a large terrace - a shaded pergola with a comfortable sofa and chairs to enjoy while you are not in the water!
Babies and small children are catered for --- no extra charges for cots, high chairs, security gates etc etc. There is fencing or hedging around the property and a gate at the bottom of the drive.. The pool can be secured with gates at either end of the pool terrace and there is further terracing to the west with a large lawn..
The perfect location, just a short drive from Lagos and everything it has to offer in the way of beautiful beaches, tennis, paddle, water sports, boat rides to the caves and grotos, restaurants and bars .to suit all tastes. In the other direction Zoo Lagos and then the west coast and its surfing beaches
If you like to escape the crowd --- there are several spots suitable for you and a good book or just to spend time in contemplation. Then lovely areas for getting together for BBQs, drinks, coffees or afternoon tea!
Although set in 3 acres of mature grounds it is not isolated, but has a wonderful feeling of privacy. Surrounded by Sub Tropical plants - amongst them Bougainvillea, Morning glory, Oleander and Acacias etc all growing abundantly around the villa.
Our southerly panoramic views are towards the village of Portelas and Lagos ( only 2 miles away) and the sea where there are miles of beautiful clean, sandy beaches. There are Beach bars aplenty for drinks, coffees, ice creams, salads, delicious fresh fish, Chicken Piri Piri, delicious garlic prawns ---- and many other tasty options!
There are many covered, shaded areas for escaping the midday sun - one of which overlooks the huge securable pool terrace and our octagonal Pergola on the pool terrace itself, both providing seating for those that like some shade and also for the supervision of young children in and around the pool.
The furnished alfresco dining area, with seating for up to 12 people and a large BBQ, is just above the pool terrace. There are speakers for your own music here --- just plug in your MP3 player / phone etc---
A very well equipped kitchen to suit the most demanding chef with fresh herbs growing on the terrace outside!
The kitchen is open plan with dining table and comfy sofas,TV & DVD player.

Looking west there are further covered areas ( just outside the family sitting-room / kitchen ) - a second dining area, great for breakfast or meals away from the pool. Plus a comfortable outside ‘sitting-room’ from which to enjoy your morning coffee or evening drinks with a view of the garden and setting sun.
There are many beautiful golf courses within easy driving distance. Tennis courts in Lagos. Water sports on local beaches . Horse riding stables. Plus surfing only a 1/2 hour drive away on the west coast.
We have all mod cons! Telephone, Fiber Wi-Fi with boosters ,
Two Televisions - Portuguese on one Television in the big sitting room. - with options in English. The second in the family / kitchen /dining room room with a New TV set top box - which has a wide selection of channels and many current films included..
A DVD player, lots of DVDs and books ( including reference books,) books for adults & children --- plus a library of cookery books!).
Our friend Carla meets and greets at a time agreed between you. She is reliable, fluent in English and Portuguese, is willing to baby sit. She is just a phone call away, to help and advise on anything and everything - sort out any problems --- however small..
Lovely Ascensao keeps the villa and surrounding terraces spotless and waters the pots of herbs! She spots little problems before you have noticed anything is amiss!
Ben cleans the pool and is also only a phone call away and is brilliant in any emergency.
Some of our guests extend their holidays by flying to & from Lisbon or Seville, spending a night or two discovering those lovely cities and enjoying the drive or train to Lagos and the West Algarve --- with the added bonus that sometimes, there are better flight deals flying to these airports!
Coast/Beach:
We are 5 minutes away from sandy Meia Praia beach where you can walk or run for several miles. and close to some beautiful cliff walks. Windsurfing, sailing, water skiing and jet skiing are all available. There is surfing and surf schools on the west coast beaches 1/2 hours drive away. Day trips and equipment can be organised from Lagos, or you can hire boards etc on Cordoama and Armado Beaches.
Occasionally you can surf on the south coast too - but there are no hire facilities here - only in Lagos.
Our prices are in Euros. However payment can also be made pounds sterling at whatever the exchange rate is at the time.

By D Hasler on 11-Sep-2024We had a lovely 10 day holiday at Quinta das Casuarinas in September of this year, there were 10 in our group, aged between 2yrs and 59yrs and this villa catered for all our needs . It is large, roomy and well thought out. It was kept spotless by Ascensoa, who was very understanding of our 2 & 3 year olds who kept following her around. We were slightly concerned about the lack of air conditioning but found that the villa was always cool and comfortable, the bedroom fans were really all that was needed even though the weather was high 20’s / low 30’s whilst we were there. The bedrooms are spacious and bed's very comfortable. The kitchen has every gadget you could think of , one of our party is a chef and he was most impressed. The villa owner was very pleasant to communicate with and happily answered my many questions and went out of her way to ensure that our toddlers would be adequately accommodated for with highchairs and gates etc, she also provided me with contact details for a local lady Carla who kindly provided us with some local knowledge whilst we were there’s. This villa is a 10 minute drive out of town, we had a small hire car for 5 persons and the rest used Uber who were very well priced and reliable , we never had to wait more than 10/15 minutes for them to turn up. Although i do believe there is a regular bus service if required. The large pool area is of a high standard with plenty of comfortable recliners and patio furniture , there are several outside seating areas around the villa all with comfortable furniture. Lagos and the surrounding areas are really lovely, it’s worth wandering up through the town back streets where many cafes and hidden gem shops are to be found. There are plenty of bars and restaurants and we found that they are generally of a very good standard and had a wide selection of dishes to choose from. Everyone in our group agreed that they thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily visit again. Quinta das casuarinas is highly recommended.

Peaceful privacy in a great location
By Moira Allsopp on 17-Aug-2024Loved the peacefulness of the villa, secluded but very near to Lagos for grocery shopping and sightseeing. Very easy to find with good communication and directions from Jill the owner. Villa is large so plenty of space for families and the pool was brilliant, lots of fun and cooling in the heat. Loads of useful kitchen equipment for self catering like us and we made use of the various outdoor dining areas which we loved. Overall we had a fab holiday here and thought the Villa to be traditional and comfy so thank you Jill for your great communication with everything.

Perfect Family Holiday
By Sue P & family on 22-Aug-2020We stayed as a family of 9 (6 adults & 3 children) at Quinta das Casurinas for 2 weeks in late August. We were so lucky to have booked this villa last October for a family birthday celebration unaware of the pandemic which unfolded 5 months later! Throughout the ensuing months of uncertainty the owner was in constant contact, handling our dilemma over the uncertainty of our travel with patience & great understanding as we only finally decided to go on the very last minute! Our decision to stay here as a family turned out to be the perfect solution as the villa more than fulfilled our requirements. We were able to have a perfect holiday as a family & enjoy the fabulous weather the Algarve is famous for. We all enjoyed the beautiful pool every day & were never short of somewhere to sunbathe or rest in the shade as the grounds of the villa offer so many different areas to explore. The villa had everything (&more) for a perfect family holiday in very uncertain times. We felt very safe and were able to sample a couple of the many seafood restaurants in nearby Lagos in a “COVID-19 safe environment”. Special mention too to the housekeeper Asencao who kept the villa spotlessly clean and was on hand to help us when our car had a puncture & arranged for a garage mechanic to come & remove & repair the tyre for us (the same day!!) We highly recommend Quinta das Casuarinas for the perfect family holiday!!

It felt very familiar from the first minute and made us feel welcome. The Landlady was ever so helpful with all our questions before and during our visit, even in these difficult to travel times. All Covid safety regulations were followed on the spot an we felt safe all the time. I can only recommend a visit to Portugal, and if you go, make this house your home. “Beautiful House and Garden”
By Frazer on 21-Oct-2017This house is large, clean and well-stocked. The outside spaces are wonderful: a lawn, several patios, pool, arbor, bougainvillea and lots of beautful potted plants. You also have a view over Lagos and the valley. The owner was extremely accommodating, even sending over a friend to answer questions and explain how things worked. The housekeeper came by every day and was helpful. Owner's reply: We are very happy that you enjoyed your time staying in our house - particularly as you had come all the way from the US, with your extended family, to celebrate your wedding anniversary --- a long way from home! We wish you both many more happy celebrations wherever you may be!
“Fabulous holiday”
By Jane on 30-Jul-2017Oh, what a wonderful holiday! This is a fabulous villa, so spacious and well equipped and in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The charming town of Lagos is just 2 miles away, as are the closest beaches, but we often chose to remain at the villa and enjoy a peaceful swim in the large pool. We had a mixed group of adults and children over the two weeks and Jill was so helpful in providing lots of advance information. The daily maid service from the delightful Ascencao, was a great bonus, and the manageress, Gabriela, was very well informed and provided lots of local information and suggestions for day trips. We all fell in love with Quinta das Casuarinas and didn't want to leave!
