INTRODUCING DAR IL- BAHAR - BY JULES
"This farmhouse not only surprises, on viewing. It delights. Dar il Bahar promises a unique and idyllic holiday experience immersed in the beauty of Gozo’s natural landscape. A fully detached farmhouse located in its own delightful mature gardens and cosied up with Gozo’s landscape.
Panoramic island views are plentiful from the first floor serving as the living hub of the original farmhouse. It is also a haven of views from the terrace doors that let in light and unobstructed views. In the evening you will be stunned by the most spectacular views, namely the red sunset over iconic Dwejra Bay.
The farmhouse has been fully renovated to a premium standard, whilst retaining many of its original features. The limestone arches are a delightful picture throughout. Behar has the best of everything – Gardens, a private pool, countryside, traditional charm and excellent facilities for your self-catering holiday. A “road test” is a recommended must! Jules”
GOZO VILLA DESCRPITION
Ground floor:
Dar il Behar is finished in a distinctive Mediterranean blue painted wood. Through the front doors, you arrive in an outdoor reception space. Before taking the stone staircase to the main living area on the first floor, venture ahead to find Bedrooms 1 and 2 in a pretty courtyard. This space can be used for dining, also.
Both bedrooms are characterised by local limestone ceiling arches and have twin beds. Bedroom one is spacious to accommodate its own settee and has an ensuite bathroom. Bedroom two benefits from a bathroom within the same ground-floor courtyard.
First Floor:
You reach the first floor living accommodation by an external stone staircase. Once inside, the light and views take over. The master bedroom is in the corner as you enter. It has 2 double beds and an ensuite bathroom.
Straight ahead is the countryside visible through terrace doors onto a feature balcony. The lounge looks over this with a log burner making it cosy for the cooler months. Around the corner, you find an extended modern and well-equipped kitchen. This also opens out to the countryside with a balcony for prime viewing.
Outdoors:
Lovely mature gardens surround the private pool and terrace with only a petty low stone wall separating the farmhouse from nature. The views are idyllic.
An yawning can be found at the rear, still in view of the countryside with a dining table, chairs and BBQ. There is plenty of room to spread out on sun loungers for hours of relaxation.
LOCATION San Lawrenz
San Lawrenz is another charming and traditional village. It lies in the westerly part of the Island not far from Dwegra Ban and Ta’Dbiegi Craft Village. Built on a plane this picturesque village is surrounded by three hills: Ta' Dbiegi (at 195 metres above sea level this is Gozo's highest point) Ta' Ghammar and Ta' Gelmus. You will find here the unlikely contrast of a typically rural lifestyle and nurtured village traditions against the five-star luxury of the Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel on the village outskirts.
Interestingly San Lawrenz is one of only two sites named after their patron saint (the other being Santa Lucija in Ta' Kercem). Before the village was established as a parish on 15 March 1893 it was known as Ta' Cangura. This earlier name dates back beyond Gozo’s worst siege in history where in1551 most of the inhabitants were enslaved by the Ottoman Turks. At that time San Lawrenz formed part of Gharb’s parish though San Lawrenz villagers longed for their own parish church and community. Finally achieving parish status in 1893 the locals were so delighted apparently that they set straight to work building their new church with great enthusiasm. The village feast of San Lawrenz falls in the first week of August.
The closest beach Dwejra is just 2 km away and there is also a food store just 1 km from the house. 'Tatitas' Restaurant is a good find in the main village square just 500 metres away from the villa. Not far from the food store is another restaurant Jeffrey's. Alternatively, venture 3.5 km into the main town of Victoria and enjoy the many bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops it has to offer.
You will find a good bus service from the stop location within 100 metres from the farmhouse with a regular service into Victoria,
