Description

Three minutes walk from the centre of the delightful 19th Century spa village of Saint Gervais les Bains is this 30 year old detached chalet which has been fully renovated to provide a contemporary but comfortable home.

The chalet which uses much traditional wood to provide the Alpine ‘feel’ also benefits from modern communication systems such as Wireless Broadband and modern audio visual entertainment throughout. The satellite television provides access to the usual UK satellite channels. Swimming pool in summer and clear mountain air combine to provide the tonic you need. 50 minutes from Geneva Airport, 7 minutes from ski lifts to Megeve-Saint Gervais ski domain, 15 minutes from Chamonix. 1 minute walk from Tramway du Mont Blanc providing direct access to Les Houches, Mont Blanc mountaineering, Tour du Mont Blanc and paragliding take off sites.

Notes on accommodation: The chalet has underfloor heating which is very effective. Because the chalet is laid out over four floors and has balconies and a swimming pool it is best suited to adults and older children. Our young nephews and nieces have had a super time here summer and winter but the under 5's obviously required more supervision from adults. Outside, Summer: The outside living space is fantastic. A patio with decking surrounds the pool and has fabulous views of the Aravis chain of mountains on the other side of the valley. Barbeque'ing is very special and at night the patio is lit with outdoor lighting. The pool is about 30 feet long and is heated in Summer to in excess of 26 degrees Celsius. There are outdoor tables, chairs and sun loungers. There is parking for up to three cars to the side of the drive. Utility Room: In the garage: includes sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge and freezer. Space for clothes drying and hanging. Ski and boot storage in ample garage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fully laundered cotton bedlinen and towels are included in the price. Reasonable chalet cleaning at the end of your stay is also included. Any other arrangements can be discussed on an individual basis. Other: Second living room in basement lends itself to evening and night-time use and has a high quality audio visual system. Contemporary and 'moody' it is a great place to unwind after the day. Sofas, chairs and wine fridge. Sauna comfortable for four.

Travel:
The nearest airport is Geneva which is well served with budget airlines from regional airports as well as scheduled airlines from the major UK and European airports. Geneva is 50 minutes by car and transfers are easily arranged with a number of taxi and airport transfer companies operating in the Alps. Other ways of arriving are TGV/snow train to Annecy (50 minutes away), flights to Lyon or Grenoble (less than 2 hours away). Car not essential.
Distances:
Distance to Saint Gervais 300 metres, Megeve 5 miles, Les Contamines 5 miles, Chamonix 10 miles, Courmayeur 25 miles, Geneva 45 miles, Annecy 45 miles.

Further Details:
Located in the French northern Alps and situated at the feet of Mont Blanc, St Gervais has stunning scenery and a wide variety of things to do.
Saint Gervais is a beautiful Savoyard village with a friendly atmosphere. It is home to Europe's highest mountain, Mont Blanc and has been a popular holiday destination for over a hundred years. There are a number of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants and every Thursday morning there is a market and the village's main square is a hive of activity.
The towns of Megeve and Chamonix are just a 20 minute drive away should you wish to explore a little further.
St Gervais has a huge number of activities on offer. It is popular with walkers and cyclists in the summer - it is one of the starting points for the Tour du Mont Blanc. In winter Saint Gervais has a large ski area (over 440 km) which links to nearby Megeve. The Mont Blanc Tramway can be taken from Saint Gervais to the Bellevue plateau (1800m) or the Prarion giving skiers access to the Les Houches ski area in winter. Or it can be taken by walkers or those just wishing to see the wonderful panorama in winter or summer. For those who would like to relax a little St Gervais's famous thermal parc offers complementary therapies and massage.
The village also has a brand new indoor/outdoor pool complex with a 25m pool, a play pool, a paddling pool, an outdoor pool, a sauna and hammam. Also in the village is an olympic sized ice rink, clay tennis courts (with international tennis tournament in June) and
a great mini-golf course. Mountain bikes are easy to hire in the town too.
In summer the summer activity pass costs around 100 euros for a family of 4 or 5 for a week and gives access to the swimming pool, mini-golf, cable cars and activities at the leisure park in nearby Les Contamines

Wonderful chalet

By Jeanette Ogilvie on 09-Mar-2025

What a wonderful chalet. So convenient to have one place to store boots, helmets and skis with lots of room. Great hanging space for wet jackets and laundry if you don't want to tumble dry. All bedrooms very comfortable great linen and pillows to die for! Best equipped kitchen with every conceivable saucepan needed. Sauna was a much needed extra for tired muscles. Lots of seating areas so it never felt crowded. 5/10 minutes walk to centre of town. Would highly recommend the chalet and will definitely be returning.

Exactly as described- maybe even perfect !

By Matthew Martin on 01-Mar-2025

We came to ski, and have a convenient and comfortable base . Chalet Wilks definitely ticked all the boxes, and more. The location equally suits both skiers, and non - skiers, with the proximity to the village on foot, and the navette to the gondola up to Le Bettex ski station and beyond. Don't overlook the rack railway (TMB) , a breathtaking journey up to the Les Houches ski area, and also free bus transfers to Les Contamines and other local ski areas. The new Valleen gondola from the main line station at Le Fayet, aswell as the Leman express train from Geneva are excellent and eco- friendly. What's not to like ?

Lovely place to stay for a ski holiday

By David & family - skiers on 12-Jan-2025

St Gervais is a great place to base yourself for a ski holiday and this is a really lovely chalet. Walk 5 mins into the town for bars and restaurants and catch a bus or drive 3 mins to the lift station (plenty of parking outside of the most busy periods). Highly recommeded. Thanks Melanie.

Wonderful ski chalet

By Sarah and family on 20-Dec-2024

We returned this year for our third stay in Mel’s chalet over Christmas. It’s beautiful, comfortable, really well appointed, comfortable beds, lovely linen, plenty of plates and glasses. It makes such a difference when the owner maintains her chalet so well. We’ve only ever visited to ski, it’s got a super ski shuttle bus that stops outside and takes you to the lifts in 5 minutes and we loved being able to walk to all the shops and restaurants. Thank you Mel, we love your chalet and would love to return.

Wonderful chalet in beautiful location

By Rebecca Hart on 10-Aug-2024

We stayed for 2 weeks in August. The chalet was very homely, with great use of space and most impressive mountain views! We absolutely loved our stay, and made full use of the lovely swimming pool , the games (Balderdash was a hit!) , and kitchen, we love cooking….There were 5 of us staying and we found it very private place to stay. We enjoyed the Sonos music system too! St Gervais is a short easy walk, with pavements all the way. A very pretty town with plenty of places to eat . The market on a Thursday is worth a visit, lots of regional produce - the saucisson we bought was great value and so tasty. A couple of great Boulangeries, for a daily baguette. Lots to do locally for all ages, we enjoyed the train up to the top of the mountain, stunning views. Overall, we found the chalet such an easy, comfortable stay , with an amazing pool, wonderfully equipped kitchen and in a beautiful location.

Perfect summer chalet

By Amanda on 03-Aug-2024

Return trip to the chalet in summer and still good. Excellent location with plenty to do and see locally, kitchen well equipped and ample space for 8 adults. Pool was a real bonus as the weather was hot while we were there. Good communication from the owners and prompt return of the security deposit. Overall highly recommended
