Description
Crabtree Barn is rurally set in beautiful countryside of Pennine Yorkshire in the Calderdale area. The rugged and distinctive landscape has featured recently in a number of popular TV series including Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax and just a few miles south and further back in time Last of the Summer wine and Where the Heart Is.
The barn is a converted Victorian barn sympathetically converted to a modern and spacious, light filled space with fantastic views but keeping the character of the beams and stonework.
The open plan living area, set upstairs, is a spacious and sociable room open to the rafters with 2 large comfy sofas to watch the clouds drift by overhead from the velux windows or if you prefer you can watch the Samsung Smart TV or play one of the many family games available. The living room is kept cosy with oil central heating and a powerful Scandinavian log burning stove. A full sized kitchen with dishwasher and fridge freezer and plenty of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery is also provided. A dining table seating up to 6 is also provided. The wall decorations are carefully chosen to reflect the history of the area with local artists featured.
It has 2 ensuite bedrooms both with comfortable beds. One with a superking bed (which can be 2 twins) and a newly renovated ensuite shower room with rainfall shower. The second bedroom has a king size bed and a fabulous view out over the hills which you can enjoy lying in bed or from the cushioned window seat. The ensuite has a shower bath with a Grohe shower. Cotton linen and fluffy towels are included.
Walking and cycling are available right from the door. If you’re feeling a bit less energetic - there are a lot of hills - then there’s a large private garden with terrace to relax in with your own summer house - perfect to take in the views with a morning coffee.
As part of the ‘underdwelling’ of the barn, there is also a light and airy games room with views to the hills and garden with full size table tennis and children’s table football.

Helpful Notes
Free parking on your private drive in front of the barn is available for 2 cars. Please note motorhomes and caravans cannot access the barn due to the narrow lanes and limited parking on the road. No smoking or candles / naked flames inside the property please. Maximum capacity is 4 adults and a baby (to sleep in a cot in the superking bedroom).
A generous free basket of kiln dried logs is left for the woodburner and thereafter the cost is £8 per basket. We ask that you do use the wood we supply as we supply this at cost and cheaper grades of unseasoned wood can cause issues with the chimney with potential chimney fires as a result.
It is expected that the barn will be left clean and tidy on departure although a final clean is included in the rental cost so that our high standards are maintained for the next visitor.
Accessibility issues because of stairs from the ground to first floor living room and steep steps in the garden mean that unfortunately the cottage is not suitable for the less mobile.
An EV charger is available on request at a charge depending on the current electricity kWH cost. The EV charger is metred and payment is due before departure.
Sorry we don't accept pets.
