Description
St Margaret's Cottage is charming, semi-detached cottage, dating back to 1880s when it was originally a coach house The cottage is tucked away down a single-track lane surrounded by similar properties and a 14th century chapel in the oldest part of the South Somerset village of Tatworth (aka South Chard ). Tatworth is just three miles from the town of Chard and only a mile or two from the borders of both Dorset and Devon. This lovely period cottage has been renovated to an extremely good standard, offering a delightful, comfortable home-from-home. The handy porch leads through to the cosy sitting room with settee, chairs, coffee table , bookcase and TV and features a lovely open fire providing a good place for your group to socialise. Stairs go up from the sitting room to the first floor. A door way leads from the sitting room into the large dining room which has a dining table and chairs and warming, wood burner-style gas fire. Within the dining room is another seating area consisting of TV, tub chairs and coffee table so that it can double up as a social space once dinner is over. Just off the dining room are two steps down to the narrow galley kitchen which is very well equipped. The cottage has two bedrooms with windows overlooking the lane, a bathroom where you can enjoy a soak after a long day outside,
There is space to park your car and a small outdoor sitting area at the front of the cottage and a private courtyard accessed through the kitchen at the rear. When the sun is shining, you can sit out here with a book, or enjoy refreshments whilst you discuss your day’s activities and it provides a great place to eat dinner and drink a glass of wine in the evening.
Close by are lovely rural walks to explore, whilst a short drive takes you into the nearby town of Chard or Axminster which both offer an interesting selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. There are several historic houses and beautiful gardens to visit within an easy drive, including Barrington Court, Forde Abbey and Montecute House. Alternatively take the route south to with your buckets and spades and enjoy delicious fish and chips at the charming seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Seaton or Beer. A superb holiday cottage in a wonderful village location, offering a comfortable and convenient base for enjoying South Somerset, East Devon and West Dorset.
