Description

A very spacious, light, character, family house with views to Ballard Down to the rear and only a few minutes gently sloping walk to the beach. Very quietly situated in a residential road. Spacious parking for 2 cars to the side of the house. Unrestricted parking in the road outside the house.

Wide, enclosed, lawned garden, good for football/outdoor games. Barbeque and large picnic table. Very comfortably furnished, two large sitting rooms, (one for you, one for the kids!) one with French doors and verandah, both with TV and DVD. Extensive children's DVD library. Internet access. Lots of children's games - Lego, Brio railway (bring your own trains), building blocks, wooden castle and pirate ship, marble run as well as board games. Wigwam (bring your own Chieftain's gear). Boules, hoopla, croquet and bean bag targets for the garden and a house kite. We are less than 5 minutes gently sloping walk to the beach. Everything in Swanage is within easy level walking distance - shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, mini golf, tennis courts, mackerel fishing, boat trips, boat hire, pitch and putt, children's playgrounds, crabbing, steam train, open-top buses, pier strolling, arcade, fishing, kite flying...and more! Wonderful day trips with the family to Corfe Castle (idyllic), Kimmeridge (fossils everywhere), Lulworth (castle and cove), Wareham (swimming pool, kayaking on the river, old-fashioned cinema), Tyneham (the lost village), Durdle Door, (iconic arch) Brownsea Island (Treasure Island with red squirrels and peacocks), Arne (bird watching and views of Poole harbour) and many more. It's a nature and walkers' paradise and when you book I give you a heap of information about walks and activities that might appeal.

Large, comfortable eat-in farmhouse type kitchen with AGA, window seat and views of hills. Properly equipped kitchen - Le Creuset casseroles, decent cook's knives etc. The table in the kitchen seats 6 adults comfortably, 8 is cosy and 10 is a squeeze. The house is very suitable for families and intergenerational stays and we often have children eat first then adults later. Having said that, we had New Year with adults, teenagers and younger children totalling 11 squeezed in - myself perched on a stool by the AGA. So it depends how you like it. Big front porch and generous utility room for all the beach stuff. Five bedrooms, (Superking, King and twin on the 1st floor. Two twins on the 2nd floor.) All lovely, comfy beds, no bunk beds. One very large bathroom with separate shower cubicle and bath which has two entrance doors so may be ensuite if wished. One family bathroom with hand shower and bath. Both are the original twenties fixings with big baths in oak cases. The twin bedroom on the 1st floor has a sink which helps with teeth cleaning pressures. There is an extra separate loo upstairs, There is a cloakroom downstairs sporting the original Edwardian thunderbox. (4 loos in total)

It is the perfect house if you want a classic Enid Blyton holiday. Once here you don't need the car except to do a big shop at the Co-Op (or not even that if you internet shop). The house is very suitable for two families sharing who don't want to be on top of each other and also multi-generation stays as the gentle walk to the beach is suitable for all ages. If you love walking you can join the coast path almost immediately outside the house. You can set off walking to Corfe Castle or Studland or you can catch the open top bus from the end of the road to Studland or Shell Bay and then walk back.

Although we are dog-lovers, sadly we don't accept pets visiting the house. Also, please note the beds are all made up for you when you arrive, but we do not provide towels.

Please get in touch with me via the relevant link to check on availability and exact pricing. Sometimes there is a weekend or midweek we would particularly like to sell (usually out of season) for which a slightly lower price may be available. It's worth just sending me a message!

Out of season, it is often possible to have early arrival and late departure.

This was a fantastic house for our three generation family holiday

By Teresa Wood on 07-Sep-2024

The house is fantastic location for a three generation family holiday . It is a very spacious house with plenty of loos and bathrooms . Our three and one year old grandchildren loved it . The beach is in easy walking distance and the views from the kitchen are beautiful . There is also lovely garden which was perfect for barbeques . There are lots of fabulous toys in the house which were greatly enjoyed by the grandchildren. Vicki send extremely detailed instructions regarding everything in the house , we enjoyed cooking on the AGA very much and also very useful details about everything there is to do in the local area , walks, local parks for the children , food places etc , Vicki could not have been more helpful . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return .

A perfect seaside family holiday

By Jane Tobin on 17-Aug-2024

We all adored this house from the minute we walked into it. The children loved their ‘attic’ room and all the toys, the parents couldn’t believe how close the beach & town were (we hardly used our cars) & us oldies thought the second ‘quiet’ sitting room was a terrific idea! We had the most fabulous week, spending part of every day on the beautiful beach. Vicki the owner obviously has first hand experience of living in the house and area with her own family and is full of useful tips such as what recipes work best on the Aga, or how old a child might be to attempt the walk to Old Harry Rocks. We especially appreciated how quickly she answered any queries and how the kitchen was properly equipped to cook for a large group. Not forgetting the garden, which is perfect for a family game of croquet or just for relaxing. All in all, thoroughly recommended.

Five star

By Patricia Waterston July 27 August 3 2024 on 27-Jul-2024

Five Stars! Clean lovely spacious house with every amenity. Huge safe enclosed garden, five minutes to a quiet beach via path and steps at the Grand. Open air cafe on the prom. selling ice creams, good crab sandwiches, and excellent cooked breakfast. Children`s rooms had plenty of toys from wigwam to pirate ship and castle plenty of beach toys in the large front porch. All kitchen equipment high quality as were the beds. Ample parking within the grounds. We were multi-generational from two to seventy five and lucky enough to enjoy fabulous weather. Ventured out to Shell Bay restaurant and Monkey World, both trips nearby and well worthwhile. Pines Hotel, five minutes walk, has garden with great views and does good sandwiches for lunch. We had barbeques and take outs and did little cooking! The owner Vicki was most helpful. I fully recommend.

Lovely characterful base for exploring the area

By Paul on 07-Jun-2024

There was plenty of space for 7 adults in this clean and airy home. The location was very good, being only a short walk from the town. There was ample parking for 4 cars and a beautiful garden to relax in. Communication and information from the owner was very comprehensive and clear. The house itself has lots of character and was a really pleasant space to spend time in. Thank you for a great stay!

Fantastic house in good location

By Sue Hughes on 19-May-2024

The house is beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you might need, including an aga providing continuous heat to dry off wet clothes. The beds were very comfortable and single beds were of a good size with decent mattresses. We loved the kitchen/dining area - a great place to socialise while cooking. All in all, a fabulous house in a quiet area within walking distance of Swanage centre. Not to be missed!
