Description

Perched in the hills west of historic Stirling, and less than an hours drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, Garrique Cottage is an ideal base for exploring Scotland or for relaxing in the garden and surrounding countryside with friends and family, and perhaps a dog or two.. The cottage is peaceful and surprisingly spacious, with a beamed 33 foot long kitchen/dining/ living room and a separate sitting room with a wood burning stove and panoramic mountain views. French windows in the dining area lead out to decking with a picnic table and steps down to the south and west facing private garden. It provides accommodation for up to 6 people..

Garrique Cottage is perfect for those wanting privacy and comfort combined with easy access to a variety of hill and woodland walks, historic homes, beautiful gardens, wild swimming, distillery visits (notably Glengoyne and Deanston) and other activities. A number of walks start at the back door, and offer the chance to see deer, red squirrels, hare, rabbits, lambs in the spring, and all sorts of song birds and raptors. A hard tennis court is available for visitors, often with exclusive use. Up to two dogs per party are very welcome and should enjoy all the open space around the cottage as should any youngsters. On the other hand, out of consideration to those with allergies we are unable to welcome smokers.

Kippen, with its two gastro pubs, two delicatessen/cafés, village shop and historic church is only four miles away by road or about 40 minutes walk over footpaths. Blair Drummond Safari Park and The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park are close by. The City of Stirling, with its magnificent castle, historic old town, museum and art gallery, shops, supermarkets and a variety of eating places is an easy twenty minute drive, and the Wallace Monument (Braveheart), Doune Castle (Game of Thrones) and the Falkirk Wheel are all in easy reach, as is Gleneagles Hotel with its array of golf courses, spa, and multiple other activities. Glen Coe, Inverary, St Andrews, the Scottish Borders and Loch Ness can each be visited within a day. Golf courses at Aberfoyle, Balfron, Dunblane, Stirling, and Auchterarder all welcome visitors.

The cottage has regularly achieved a Certificate of Excellence/Travellers Choice award from Trip Advisor and has been awarded a Customers Choice award for 2023 and 2024 by cottages.com. Its EPC rating is C for energy efficiency and B for environmental impact. It’s Scottish short term let licence number is ST00241F.

PLEASE NOTE. Booking from April to October is usually by the week, with a Friday changeover. We are open to shorter stays from November to March, but never less than 3 nights and preferably 4.

A relaxing, peaceful stay.

By Carole A on 06-Sep-2024

Our first visit to Garrique cottage in July this year was really enjoyable so I booked a second visit this September. Since we 're in the process of selling our house, this ensured our expected young guests of some accommodation. Our initial intentions were to visit the various attractions around this part of Scotland but due to health issues. these didn't materialise .This didn't bother us too much because we were still able to relax in comfortable peaceful surroundings. Since the cottage is very well equipped I was also able to enjoy one of my favourite hobbies- cooking. Our two guests however, were able to make full use of the facilities and due to the cottage's location were able to visit St Andrew's, Oban, Edinburgh and Glasgow on different days. Their only disappointment was not being able to enter Edinburgh castle due to lack of available tickets. On their day of departure they took Fiona's advice and booked tickets for Stirling castle and had a wonderful 3 hours exploring before leaving Scotland. When we have settled in our new place in January 2025 we hope to be able to plan another visit but hopefully for a longer period of time.

Thank you Carol. It was lovely to see you both again. I am overwhelmed by your cooking skills. The soup you shared was delicious and original. So glad the trip to wonderful Stirling Castle went well. Looking forward to seeing you both again next year.

A well equipped cottage in a beautiful location

By Anna on 02-Aug-2024

We couldn't have had a more wonderful place to stay for our first visit to Scotland. Fiona was a brilliant host and the cottage had everything we needed for a family of four and family dog. The location was idyllic and so handy to have walks right out the cottage garden. We would not hesitate to recommend Garrique cottage to others.

Perfect stay in a beautiful location

By Clare on 20-Jul-2024

We've just had a lovely week at Garrique Cottage and it was the perfect size for our family (4 adults, 2 children and a dog). The kitchen and living room areas were very comfortable and ideal to enjoy the views (including a beautiful sunset one evening). Fiona and Nander were perfect hosts who were on hand if help was needed but also respectful of privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the woods beside the cottage and using the tennis courts (which must have the best views a tennis court could have). Highly recommend and hope to return.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit, and hope you will come back before too long. Best wishes, Fiona

A fabulous place to stay either for relaxing or exploring the surrounding countryside.

Apart from being in an idyllic location I chose to book Garrique cottage for our party of 5 because it was available for a specific week in July. This turned out to be an excellent choice. Our hosts Fiona and Nandar were friendly, helpful and responsive to any requests. Some very welcome goodies were provided which included a jar of lovely Garrique honey, shortbread and some delicious homemade raspberry preserve. The surprisingly spacious and extremely well equipped cottage is in a quiet picturesque location and not overlooked, although about 50 yards from the owners property. When looking out at the private gardens from the cottage windows we often spotted lots of baby rabbits skuttling across the lawn into the bushes along with a variety of birds landing on the lawn looking for insects. On our first evening there , out of the corner of his eye my husband spotted what he thought was a strange looking animal moving around the lawn . On closer inspection this turned out to be the robot lawnmower which proved mesmerising to watch. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a much needed relaxing week. Our younger guests enjoyed spending their time in a more active fashion, playing on the nearby tennis court; trying to hit tennis balls delivered from a machine, this delivery proved to be a little too fast for their reflexes. They thoroughly enjoyed walking and exploring the nearby woodland walks. We all very much enjoyed looking through the extensive collection of books and games. but overall the weather was too good to spend time indoors playing games or reading. We definitely want to and will return at some stage to further explore the surroundings.

Thank you so much for visiting us, and for your generous review. It was a pleasure to meet you and your husband and your lady companions. We are so glad they made the most of the tennis court and gave you a chance to join in after many years retirement from the game. Come back soon.

Dicovering Scotland

Excellent stay in this very comfortable cottage. All clean and very well provisioned. Comfortable beds. View to die for. Plenty to do in the area and easy to visit Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee from Bridge of Allan where there is a large free car park. Highly recommended.

Owner response on 30-May-2024

Thank you for visiting us. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay, and used a couple of wet days to enjoy some of the museums in Edinburgh and Dundee. Your advice about taking the train from Bridge of Allan station is very helpful.

Great Stay in Lovely Cottage

By Shaun Geils on 03-May-2024

Great stay with the family at Garrique Cottage. The cottage is well presented and great for exploring the area. Well situated for day trips to Edinburgh (catching train from Stirling) and into the Highlands. Lots of activities in the area to keep the kids entertained, even on days the weather was a little rainy (Stirling castle, Falkirk wheel). Fiona was also very responsive and helpful with anything we needed. Definitely will consider again for future trips. Visited April 2024 Written 3 May 2024.
