The pretty enclosed garden has a sunny central seating area close to the old stone well once used to supply the property and its generations of past residents. There is parking for up to two guest cars within the garden gates.
Our website includes a link to our comprehensive online guest information folder which you can download or view online. It also features more pictures of the accommodation together with suggestions of things to do and places to see in and around the cottage.
Unfortunately due the entry step down and internal staircase the cottage is not suitable for wheelchairs. Please also be aware that the floors are not all flat due to the age and character of the building.
Located in the small village of Smailholm and nestled in the Scottish Borders midway between the market town of Kelso and ancient Melrose, Bread Oven Cottage is ideally placed as a base for many activities.
The Borders are famous for historical abbeys, ancient castles, magnificent country estates, walking, cycling, fishing and shooting, not to mention the glorious scenery and coast. History and rolling scenery abound and yet the cottage is also less than an hour away from Edinburgh and about two hours from Glasgow. The Borders Railway is just 6miles away in Tweedbank with trains every 30minutes or so into Waverly Station at the centre of Edinburgh between the sights and sounds of the new and the old towns.
