Description
Bloomsbury House in Sheringham is a truly magical seaside retreat. With echoes of Charleston House, home to Vanessa Bell and the original Bloomsbury Set, you can live your best Bohemian lifestyle surrounded by whimsy, beautifully curated objects and wonderful original artworks.
The house is owned by artist Annie Groom and her husband James. They clean and manage the house themselves being local to Sheringham. Annie’s artwork can been found throughout the house, together with carefully collected paintings and placed objects and books. The house once belonged to the famous pioneering lady photographer Olive Edis who went on to become Britain’s first female war photographer in 1912. Her story is as fascinating as the house she once lived in.
You walk into the hallway, and immediately feel the house. To your left is the sitting room, comfortable with sofas and chairs. A Smart TV is neatly fitted into the old fireplace. There are parlour games and a DVD player.
To your right is the dining room. This is a very atmospheric room, a room to dim the lights and talk long into the night over a great meal. It is a timeless room, dark and secretive with many original paintings to sit and stare at
The kitchen is through the archway, which was discovered in an old photograph of Olive and opened up back to its original position. A very well equipped room with double oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. Plenty of crockery and cooking utensils.
Off the kitchen is a shower room and WC, and a utility area, great for muddy boots and dogs.
Up the stairs there are 4 bedrooms. The Yellow Bedroom at the front overlooking St Peters Church has a king sized bed and a single day bed. Furnished with antique pieces, a chest of drawers, wardrobe and lamps.
The Orange Bedroom, again at the front of the house, has a king sized bed, vintage and antique furniture including a wardrobe and chest of drawers.
The Blue Bedroom to the rear of the house overlooking the courtyard, has a king size bed, dressing table and hanging rack.
The Green bedroom has 2, 2 foot 6 single beds. A pretty little room.
On this floor is the family bathroom with bath and shower over, WC and basin.
The courtyard garden is beautifully planted with cottage style plants. A gazebo with table and chairs underneath is the perfect summer evening retreat for a family or friends meal. To the front of the house there is parking for 2 cars.
Bloomsbury House is a unique and beautiful property in which to immerse yourself. If you feel creative Annie can arrange art workshops in her local studio. Please do ask and we will put you in touch.
