We went to France as a group of 4 adults (2 couples). We had never been to the Dordogne before but had read lots about its beauty. After extensive online research a few months ago, I discovered Villa La Peyriere. It looked lovely from the photos, the reviews were very good and we liked the idea of its close proximity to a town. Karen has been a great hostess. She always responded promptly to any queries that I had in the lead up to the holiday and even on a couple of occasions during the week we were there. As soon as we arrived we were absolutely blown away and delighted with our choice. The villa has been finished to the highest of standards both inside and out. The owners have thought of everything that you could possibly hope for to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The property is full of character and the arrangement of the bedrooms provides a high degree of independence and privacy from our travelling companions. The outdoor seating areas and immaculate pool were the jewels in the crown. We were blessed with brilliant weather so we spent a lot of time in and by the pool. It is a perfect size and so private. After each day trip it was such a treat to return to it. In terms of activities that we did in the surrounding area, our highlights were as follows: 1. We spent lots of time in and around Sarlat itself. It was only a 10 minute walk into town from the villa. Sarlat is just oozing with character and charm. Lots of lovely shops, restaurants and archetypal French side streets. The markets on Wednesday morning and Thursday evening were amazing! 2. Visits to chateau in Beynac and Castelnaud. These have been impeccably restored and there is so much history to absorb. Highly recommended. 3. Visits to the small towns of Montignac, Domme and Limeuil. So beautiful and there was always something going on. 4. We visited the night food market in the nearby village of St Genies. This was an unforgettable experience for us and a wonderful example of French community and culture. Lots of different types of cuisine to purchase and eat at tables that have been erected for the evening. All the while listening to live French music. It was at the bottom end of the village. Key tip - arrive by 1900hrs at the latest to get an easy parking space, to get a seat at a shaded table and to get into the queues early. The night market in St Genies is every Wednesday evening during the months of July and August - you simply must go if you can! There is so much more I could write but suffice to say that we had the most amazing holiday. To us it seems crazy to go somewhere else when we have found somewhere so perfect. I suppose our desire to return is the highest compliment that we can pay Villa La Peyriere. If you have opportunity to book a stay at this beautiful property then you simply must take it.
We booked a two week trip in June a few months out . Communication and booking process was smooth . One week for just my wife and myself . The second with our daughter , son in law and 3 year old grandson . The time finally arrived and after a night in Paris drove to Sarlat . As we approached Sarlat we began to see beautiful country estates . When arriving at Villa La Peyriere we were happy to see that our home for the next two weeks were as nice as any of them . Its a bit unique as you have complete privacy with gardens and a great pool but at the same time can stroll into the heart of Sarlat . Our whole family had an amazing vacation ! The house had everything you could want . Additionally it had very well thought out instruction book . Kevin the grounds keeper was awesome and gave us very solid recommendations which were all spot on ! Every day we went on an adventure then returned to relax at the Villa . Occasionally we just spent the day at the pool and cooked using the outdoor wood grill . To my surprise 2 weeks was not enough time . As much as we did there was so much more we did not have the chance to do . Great Villa , great location , great vacation !
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is well equipped.with very modern appliances and lots of fans which were very necessary in the hot weather. The pool and garden are lovely and well laid out. The location is perfect with just a short walk down into town for shopping or for supper and obviously there are no parking issues on market day when Sarlat is extremely crowded.
This is our second visit to Vill La Peyriere and we will definitely be back. The villa is beautifully equipped with a newly refurbished main shower room. There are plenty of external eating areas as well as a well furnished interior that remains cool even on the hottest of days. The villa is wonderfully located on the outskirts of Sarlat and within easy reach of all the Dordogne has to offer. Well worth a visit
The second stay in this fabulous villa, perched halfway up the hill leading down into Sarlat old town, with a gap only down to the pandemic. After our first visit we both agreed a week was too short. The bedrooms are all comfortable and airy with caretaker on hand for any unforeseen queries, and the downstairs room at the top end of classy, especially with a 5/6 hob SMEG cooker. All the appliances are top quality, with an excellent array of cookery books to stimulate the inner chef. Since we last stayed in 2019, owners Karen & Alex, have put in lots of work around the BBQ, pool area and one of the gardens at the back of the house which now has a lovely, chic seating area for those long evenings, enjoying the scent of lavender and the company of skitty cats & fat bees. The villa easily sleeps 6 (in 3 doubles) with one room being almost a separate apartment, ideal if you want a little privacy from ''the others''. Being a 10 minute walk down into Sarlat, it''s ideally situated for the multiple bars and eateries in town, and a good stroll uphill back to burn off the extra cals. It''s also a villa that has the best of both worlds, privacy without being remote; 21st century comfort yet not surrendering its unique history & charm. We''ll be back as soon as funds allow...unless you get there before us!
Left on Jul 9, 2022 for a stay in Jun 2022 The Villa is on the outskirts of Sarlat and close to all the highlights of the Dordogne. A truly stunning villa, beautifully equipped with numerous places to sit and admire the views. Anyone who also enjoys nature will love this location as the birds were amazing, also lovely to see so many rabbits enjoying the surroundings as well. A truly delightful place that is on our “to return list”.
