Overview
Description
This rural 16th-century 'Pavillon de Chasse' has a lovely view of the Lac de Castelgaillard to the front and a meadow beyond the pool to the rear. The lodge is on an access-only road running above the lake which has only three other houses. 5 mins walk and you are in vineyards. 10 minutes walk to the village of saint sernin which has a great bar tabac for fresh food shopping as well as being a lovely coffee and wine stop. There is a new BBQ restaurant opening in May. The house is 35 minutes from Bergerac airport and 80 minutes from Bordeaux. It sleeps 8 adults in 4 double bedrooms (2 can be made into twins) plus 2 children in a bedroom with bunk beds off the main bedroom. There is also a double bed in the downstairs living room for occassional use.
Two of the bedrooms have king-size double beds. The other two can be made up as super king-size double beds or as large single beds depending on your needs. Most rooms have original stone walls and the upper floor living room is double height with exposed beams and a small balcony, overlooking the lake. The large, covered rear terrace and salt pool are recent additions. There are open sun terraces on three sides of the house with tables and chairs to enjoy the sun or shade any time of day. Bed linen is crisp white. The main lodge floor, which opens onto the rear terrace and pool, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, the large, living room and a well-equipped kitchen diner with a table seating 10 people. The lower floor opens onto south-facing terraces and the lake. It contains two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 2nd living room with TV and separate zone for working.
The nearest town, Duras, is one of several Bastide towns in the area and has a castle open to the public. The lodge is in the middle of Cote de Duras and Bordeaux wine country for visiting vineyards. The famous Monbazillac castle and vineyard are only 30 minutes away. There are many pretty villages with day and night time markets close by: Eymet is among the most famous with its nightly market in high season and a large selection of restaurants.
Activities for all the family include canoeing and kayaking about 20 mins away and there is table tennis at the house as well as the pool, a BBQ and hundreds of DVD's or TV (freeview UK channels) to watch downstairs.

Leave ReviewPerfect!
By sandra yates on 07-Sep-2024What a wonderful house to holiday in! We were 10 adults in total, so using all the accommodation, and there was still plenty of space ! The house is so well equipped and had everything we needed and more! The beds were super comfy with beautiful cotton Egyptian bedding. Towels were provided along with pool towels. The bathrooms , especially the newly refurbished ones were great, with upper showers and always plenty of hot water. We ate outside on the veranda mainly, although were forced inside due to mixed weather! We were still able to sit 10 around the dinning table. We even lit the fire in the upstairs lounge one evening which made the room super cosy and warm! We used the BBQ just once, but this is in a lovely sunny area! We also played table tennis, which was great fun and enjoyed the archery! Jane ( local housekeeper) was helpful on our arrival and again when we saw her on our departure. A lovely house in a lovely area! Would love to go back! Thank you Nick for sharing your lovely holiday home!
Stunning Place
By Inka on 10-Aug-2024Absolutely stunning place! The house is huge and beautiful inside, particularly the bedrooms and bathrooms on the top floor. Wonderful, big kitchen with everything one needs and more. Beautiful terrace and a lovely pool. Enough space to play ball games on the grass. Very much enjoyed the ping pong table. Duras is 8min away and a lovely town. Recommend the night market there on Thursdays. We were two families with 4 children aged 11-15 and everyone had a fantastic time and hardly wanted to leave the place. Nick was a great host, responding always very quickly to any emails.
A stunning place to stay, beautifully styled

Gibbard/Pilllard/Boylan week
By Robert Gibbard on 20-Aug-2023Lovely, characterful and spacious house in a glorious setting. We very much enjoyed our stay, in spite of the mosquitoes! The children loved it and are keen to return on another occasion. Ideal for an extended family like ours. Jayne, the local agent, was charming and very helpful. On the down side, the directions to find the property weren't great and it's a bit cheeky to ask visitors to help manage the pool-cleaning machine when they've paid a lot of money to stay in the house. Overall, minor niggles that didn't spoil a very good visit.
Wonderful Stay
