We stayed at La Retraite for two weeks. Prior to arrival Sally sent through all the information we needed as well as some recommendations on places and restaurants to visit. The accommodation was stunning and so peaceful. We want to disconnect and recharge our batteries and La Retraite allowed us to do exactly that with its peaceful location, glorious views and a perfect Gîte with everything we needed. The Gîte was lovely and immaculate and the grounds and pool allowed us to relax in the French sun. Sally and Steve were the perfect hosts and ensured we had what we needed and Steve came and cleaned the pool regularly. All in all a fantastic stay - would highly recommend - a jewel in the Périgord region.
La Retraite is an amazing place to stay! You have the idyllic French countryside mixed with the close cycle or drive to Thiviers. The Gite is stunningly decorated and kitted out better than any Air BnB I have ever visited. Sally and Steve are the nicest and most accommodating of hosts – even extending their invitation to a drink at their beautiful home next door. We massively over packed, there was no need for half the items we packed in the car as they were all ready and waiting. The pool is maintained to a high standard and is perfect for kids to play in or to take a rest bite form the heat. As a family we have fallen in love with the area and are even looking at purchase in the area ourselves. I cannot recommend La Retraite highly enough. Its money very well spent and will provide you with the perfect holiday.
Th gîte and the location are simply ideal. Fabulous views, gorgeous gardens and outdoor seating. The views are stunning and the sunsets are spectacular. The heated pool is superbly maintained and although appears smaller it really didn’t seem so. The gite is very cozy, great kitchen, great wi-fi, excellent bathroom facilities with plenty of hot water. The hosts Sally and Steve were always on hand if needed and were very knowledgeable and friendly. We can’t recommend this gite highly enough!

We spent two wonderful weeks here. It was one of the best holidays we have had where we have truely relaxed. We were a family of four which included my son and his girlfriend who are both blind. They both loved. It had everything and more that we needed. Steve and Sally our hosts made us so welcome. We are coming back. To sum up our sons girlfriend Justing wrote this….. Dear Sally and Steve, where to begin? At the most beautiful retreat we have stayed and been. While being on our wonderful trip of France, There have been so many things to captivate and entrance. We have been to holy places, given thanks to God above; been to restaurants and discovered new foods we now love! Swam in lakes where the water was refreshing and pure; we have loved our time out here in France, that is for sure! We have visited many places; and loved each and every one; we have learned so many things since this journey begun. But this outstanding gite has been our most favourite place of all it ,it has all one could ever need; and many places to stay cool. We’ve loved swimming in the pool and sunsets at the sundown tree; and the long and lushous grass where we can run, be still, be free. For blind folk such as us, we’ve had no worries here at all, we’ve felt safe here without fear of any place to trip or fall. Sally and Steve, you have our eternal thanks with all our hearts; we’ve loved our adventures and time spent in this gite right from the start. This gite is situated in a beautiful area in the French countryside between Perigeaux and Limoges. The furnishings and equipment were good quality, well maintained and spotlessly clean. It really felt like being at home with comfy couches, responsive heaters and good showers. I liked being able to watch netflix movies and UK news etc. We had mixed weather but still managed a few swims and BBQ evenings. Steve and Sally lived near and were friendly and helpful. Our dog was welcomed and he loved the well maintained garden and the walks nearby and further afield. Definitely recommended
