Description
Just imagine yourself sitting on a sunny terrace, perched over the river Aude. Then retire into a light and airy house, full of French charm, character features and hand painted murals. Open the beautiful panelled shutters and perhaps drift off to sleep to the sounds of the river flowing past. La Maison Cerisier is situated in a quiet street, just off the main square, with plenty of interesting bars and restaurants just around the corner.
The space
La Maison Cerisier started life as a mill, used to provide power to the hat factories situated along the banks of the river Aude. As the hat making industry declined and died out the maison took on a new role, serving the community as an épicerie (small grocers shop). When the shop closed, the house took on its 3rd and current reincarnation, that of a traditional French family home. Due to its industrial past, the house has large rooms, with tall ceilings and big windows, affording it with a light, bright and airy feel. Many of the original features have been retained such as the hand painted Languedocien floor tiles, original floor boards and lovely panelled shutters. The previous owner, enhanced and added to the original features by adding beautiful murals of local scenes, making this a truly unforgettable house.
The house is situated over 3 floors. On the ground floor you have a charming sitting room, which leads onto a well equipped eat in kitchen with easily enough space for 8 people around the large dining table. On each of the other two floors you will find one double bedroom and one twin room plus a bathroom. The Master bedroom on the first floor has its own freestanding victorian style bath. Making 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms altogether. Each of the bedrooms is spacious, and furnished with period pieces.
Two terraces are accessed from the kitchen. The smaller upper terrace is a glorious place to sit in the morning sunshine with a cup of coffee, relaxing and watching the occasional bee fly from flower to flower. The large lower terrace fronts onto the river and has a table and seating for 8. As well as the uninterrupted views of the river the back terrace also affords superb views of the hilltop chateau on the opposite bank and the beautiful pont Vieux (old bridge). It is here, on the lower terrace where people spend most of their time when they stay at la Maison Cerisier. During the day the terrace is sunny, whilst at night it makes the perfect spot for a candle lit dinner or BBQ. We can also provide a shopping service for your arrival and a cook to prepare breakfasts and/or dinners for you.
