Description

Dating back over 100 years, The Barn is a characterful conversion that was renovated in 2012 to provide a comfortable and modern holiday home which is also DOG Friendly. It is located next to the owner's house but has its own entrance and enclosed patio garden. It is situated in the village of Puncknowle, pronounced Punnel, a charming village of stone cottages surrounded by the beautiful Bride Valley on one side and a downland ridge on the other that shelters the village from the sea.
The Barn is a great location for couples or small families wishing to experience the charm of the countryside but also being close to the amenities that the Jurassic coastline has to offer. The coast is about a mile away where you can explore the spectacular Chesil beach and Jurassic coast - the perfect location for beachcombing, fishing or just enjoying the spectacular views.
The ground floor offers a well-equipped kitchen where you can put together your next delicious meal. Come through to the lounge/diner and curl up after a busy day on the sofa in front of the TV. Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms. Relax outside in the evening air with a refreshing drink on the patio. The patio is surrounded by a high wall so you can relax knowing that all children and/or dogs can be contained safely. The Crown is the nearest pub and is around a three-minute walk. It is a traditional thatched pub with an inglenook fireplace to cosy up to in the winter whilst a spacious garden with wonderful views across the Bride valley is the perfect place to enjoy your drink in the summer. Providing meals and a variety of beverages including local beer, it could be the ideal place for a night off from cooking.
The market town of Bridport is only 5 miles away. It is one of the few market towns that has independent butchers, bakers and green grocers as well as many independent cafes and restaurants. There is a very popular street market every Saturday and Wednesday which hosts a wide variety of local produce as well as bric a brac and antiques.
Abbotsbury, a beautiful village with mainly thatched cottages, is under 5 miles away and has much to offer with its sub-tropical gardens and the Swannery bird reserve - it hosts the only swans in the country that are not owned by the Queen. Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, old harbour and sandy beach is a lazy drive along the coast road through picture postcard villages and breath-taking scenery to the East.
The Barn is the ideal base to explore the many options Dorset presents to guests either exploring the countryside and beaches by walking from the cottage or alternatively driving a short distance to explore further afield.

A really nice little barn.

By Caroline H on 28-Sep-2024

My husband, myself & our two dogs enjoyed our week staying in The Barn. Puncknowle is a very pleasant small village with a nice pub, also there are lots of walks from the door around the village, with some great views. The Barn is very comfortable & cosy, with everything that you need for your stay. Sue & Steve, the owners, are lovely; we had many chats on the drive! They are on hand if you need them for any local knowledge, but otherwise they stay in the background. Sue had even provided a cream tea with homemade scones on arrival, a lovely, thoughtful touch.. We will certainly consider The Barn next time we visit this beautiful part of the country for a holiday. We recommend it unreservedly.

A joy to stay here

We loved everything about our stay at this property, it is the most peaceful, relaxing and comfortable environment. We were welcomed by Sue and then throughout our stay both she and Steve were friendly and helpful if we needed any help. The Barn itself is clean, comfortable, and extremely well equipped. We would recommend wholeheartedly.

Lovely cottage and lovely owners!

Sue and Steve welcomed us warmly after a tricky journey! They go the extra mile to ensure a happy holiday. The cottage is the cleanest best equipped we have ever stayed in. We very much look forward to visiting again! Many thanks for a happy comfortable stay.

Great cottage in a picturesque village

By Luisa Best on 30-Aug-2024

The cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Very clean with comfy sofa & beds. Well equipped kitchen & lovely patio area. Location is excellent too, in a lovely village very close to many other places we wanted to visit. The owners were very friendly & helpful.

A lovely and convenient place to stay.

We were greeted on arrival by the owner, Sue, who made us feel really welcome. The Barn was lovely and clean with everything we needed for our stay. Especially for dogs as it was safe and secure for our furry friend. Puncknowle village has a great pub for a drink or even a meal if you don't want to cook. Also some walks around the village and adjacent fields. The Barn is located with easy access to the coast road, so not far to Bridport, recommend the Saturday market, but also easy to reach Weymouth and Lyme Regis or further a field. Beautiful view on the coast road which takes your breath away. Would thoroughly recommend The Barn to stay. We hope to visit again.

A Great place to stay.

This was our second visit to The Barn, once again a very warm welcome from the host Sue & Steve. The cottage is like home from home, very well equipped & comfortable. Will certainly be returning.
