Description

Location, location, location!

With stunning, uninterrupted, front line, sea views across Whitsand Bay where better than The Fish Cellars to spend your holiday?

Developed from the 18th Century Fish Cellars where the local fisherman would process their catch, The Fish Cellars is a small group of stone built luxury holiday cottages in an enviable position at the end of the village with virtually no passing traffic and fabulous sea views. Step outside and go down the adjacent slipway to the aged harbour to the quiet, often deserted, beach below....and with two beaches in the village to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. Between the two beaches you will find a good selection of rock pools perfect for a bit of exploring after the tide has gone out.

Just a 3 minute walk along the sea front from The Fish Cellars is the Jolly Roger cafe reminiscent of the pirates and smugglers that roamed these parts many years ago. With panoramic sea views, it is just perfect for a stroll to get a coffee or an ice cream. A few meters further on you will come across the Whitsand Bay golf course and Dovecote cafe and club house. Open to non members this serves a selection of snacks and bar style meals. At the top of the hill and within walking distance sits the jewel in the crown - the Finnygook Inn - a child and dog friendly pub serving fabulous food at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere.

The cottage sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms and a sofa bed in the Cinema Room. With two double bedrooms with kingsize beds (one ensuite) featuring Which? award winning matresses you are sure to get a great nights sleep. The third bedroom contains full size, sturdy, bunk beds and the Cinema Room has a large, kingsize, sofa bed with sprung base, quality memory foam mattress and ensuite facilities.

Located on the top floor, designed to capture the stunning sea views across the bay towards Looe, you will find the open plan living area. The lounge is located next to the full height windows overlooking the bay, a quality oak dining table seats 8, and the fully equipped kitchen has everything you might want during your stay whether you want to rustle up a snack or a full Christmas feast. Step outside onto the south west facing balcony, perfect for capturing the sun from lunch time until it sets behind the hills. Enjoy a coffee or glass of wine taking in the sea views, or settle into the hot tub and watch the night creep in with the twinkling lights of Looe appearing through the dusk.

Downstairs you will find the Cinema room with its 55" TV, cinema sound system and a good selection of DVDs, a table football table and games consoles. The perfect teen den or place to cuddle up for a movie. Next door you will find the second ensuite shower room and separate laundry room with washing machine and dryer.

Underfloor heated thorughout and insulated to a very high standard the property is as comfortable for that well deserved break in the winter as it is in the height of summer with the sun lighting up the rooms. In the winter there is nothing better than wrapping up warm for a bracing walk along the beach, watching the waves crashing in on the beach, before returning to the cosy house for a hot chocolate. Sit on the balcony and soak up the sun or wrapped in one of the blankets provided and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks.

Situated just 5 miles from the A38 The Fish Cellars is the perfect base from which to explore. Within easy reach of Looe, Polperro, Polruan and Fowey, even the Eden project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than an hour away down the A38. Visit Bodmin and experience life as a prisoner at Bodmin jail or the market town of Liskeard, explore the Rame pensinsula and the coastal villages of Cawsand and Kingsand, and with the Torpoint ferry to Plymouth just 7 miles away you can quickly get across to the city that was the home of Francis Drake and walk on The Hoe where he famously insisted on finishing his game of bowls before sailing off to fight the invading Spanish armada. This part of Cornwall is often described as "forgotten Cornwall" and as such has retained much more of its charm than some of the more touristy areas. .

A car is required to explore the area although there is a local bus service a couple of times a day and a mainline railway station at nearby St Germans. There are 2 private allocated spaces in the underground car park of the cottage as well as plenty of paid parking along the sea front.

The cottage is unfortunately not suitable for those with limited mobilty due to the number of stairs inside the property and steps required to access it.

Fantastic weekend at 2 fish cellars

By Sue on 05-Jun-2024

8 of us stayed at the fish cellars for the weekend. What a fantastic property with amazing views on both sides. The house is really well equipped with everything you need . It's just 5 minutes walk to the beach too. We stayed in sunshine but I suspect the views would be equally amazing during a winter storm. The owner provided a welcome pack with all the information you need for your stay and responded really quickly when we had a small problem which was resolved immediately . The bedding and towels and furnishings are really good quality too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend

A luxury and immaculate cottage......

By Mark on 17-May-2024

A luxury and immaculate cottage, perfectly positioned in a lovely village right next to the sea and coastal walks. Alison was a super host, really helpful and the instructions / guide provided were comprehensive. We enjoyed the nearby Finnygook Inn and The Inn on the Shore a few miles down the coastal path in Downderry. The early morning sea dips and hot tub were a real treat for the family. Overall a fantastic stay at Alison's place - a perfect spot to celebrate my daughter's birthday weekend.

We had a super time......

We had a super time. Location phenomenal and facilities first rate everything you could possibly need was there. We had a couple of queries but Alison responded very quickly and they were sorted. Definitely somewhere we would like to return to.

Worth every penny!

Staying at a cottage that's super clean, beautiful, and spacious is an absolute delight! It creates the perfect atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature while feeling comfortable and at ease.

This is an amazing place to stay.....

By Alison on 01-May-2024

This is an amazing place to stay, very close to the beach with great views of the sea. Beds were exceptionally comfortable, everything you could need. We didn’t have kids, but imagine the downstairs cinema/games room would come in handy if you want some peace upstairs . The parking is tight, and as the instructions say take it slowly, but we have a Mitsubishi 4x4 and parked it without drama. Having two spaces helps.

Wonderful :)

A beautiful location, a high standard of accommodation along with very good contact from Alison really made this family trip perfect, I would definitely recommend this property. The only piece of constructive criticism I would offer is that the evening lighting was either very bright or if just using the lamps very dark but this is really picking!!
