Overview
Description
Welcome to Driftwood Cottage, a comfortable cottage in a friendly village, close to the sea, and convenient for touring the many castles, distilleries and other attractions that the area has to offer - and one of the only holiday properties in the area with an EV charger!Driftwood Cottage is, unashamedly, a seaside cottage that we bought early in 2019. It has a lovely feel to it, so much so that I was reluctant to leave, at the end of our test stay! There are lighthouses and driftwood decorations, lobster pots and hemp rope banisters, but it is practical and well equipped and has fibre optic broadband.
The double bedroom, shower, lounge and kitchen are all on the ground floor. The rooms upstairs, a twin room and tv snug, have low ceilings and are most appropriate for children. The real attraction of this cottage is however, the garden. It is rare in a holiday cottage to have such an amazing outside space! Admittedly, the garden is steep, but there are terraces on the way up to the summer house offering a chance to stop and admire the view as well as to catch your breath. And the views from the top are amazing. The perfect spot to watch the sunset!
The cottage is equipped with all mod cons (including WIFI) and we provide all the linen and towels you may need. We also provide a welcome pack in case you don't have time to buy all your groceries before you get to us.
The cottage makes an ideal base for those who want to explore the many castles or distilleries in the area, or to test out some of the local golf courses. Or you may like to try your luck catching a glimpse of the local wildlife - the resident bottlenose dolphins have been sighted between the two historic harbours on numerous occasions. If you have young children, the harbours give safe, sandy places to play and there is a beach in front of the caravan park. For older children, Sandend bay is only a couple of miles away and Suds Surf School is popular for surfing or stand up paddling lessons - or can hire boards and wetsuits.
There are some lovely walks along the coast, either the Coastguards' walk towards Whitehills or west towards Sandend, or futher to the picturesque ruins of Findlater Castle, perched on the cliffside, Sunnyside Beach or Cullen.
And of course you have the award winning Portsoy Ice Cream shop just up the road! Who could ask for more?!
Green Things
We try to manage our all our cottages in as sustainable a manner as possible. We recycle everything and provide information so our guests can do the same. We are aiming to reduce our use of plastics, by refilling (handsoaps) or sourcing products without plastic packaging (toilet paper, detergents etc). We both drive electric vehicles and provide an EV charger (at cost) for our guests. I try not to use the tumble dryer, whatever the weather, line drying sheets and towels outside whenever possible. And we have recommendations of local activites, food suppliers and attractions so you can reduce your carbon footprint once you are here. A small start perhaps, but a step in the right direction!

Leave ReviewA cozy cottage that delights and suprises
By Duncan on 18-Sep-2024This was a last minute booking on an unfamiliar location. We'll definitely be back. This is a lovely cottage well fitted out, would be cozy for four but plenty of room for the two of us. Kitchen well equipped and the lounge and bedroom comfortable. the garden was a bonus surprise, great view from the top and a summerhouse to sit out in, not that we got the weather for that but it's a great option. Portsoy is an excellent location for exploring the area.
Exceptional

Family Break
By Lisa on 31-Jan-2023Beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need. Upstairs is a fantastic play room and separate kids bedroom. Location is great and you can wall to lots or local amenities. There was a welcome pack of food on our arrival which was a very nice and appreciated surprise. The owner, Wendy, popped over the following day to check we had settled in, which was lovely. Just wish we were staying longer. We will definitely be back
