Description

Mulberry is a 3 bed Eco-style beach house sleeping 6 in 3 bedrooms. Inside is a modern and spacious home with open plan living and dining area, kitchen, landscaped gardens and decking to the front, plus an enclosed patio to the rear. The house is very well equipped including some home comforts to include books, DVDs, board games and lovely art on the walls. We want it to be your home from home.

Located a 5 minute walk away from the village of Porthtowan, with its blue flag beach and coastal walks, local amenities include beach side cafes and pubs, a convenience shop and children's playground.

Mulberry is part of the holiday community of Towan Valley with its 28 houses and there are always new people to meet here. Located at the top of the development it is next to the field where cows graze and its paved patio adds a great private area for barbecues or children's play.
Come rain or shine, warm or cold, you can spend hours on the beach surfing, rock-pooling, sand-castling, dog-walking, scrambling or generally having fun. When it's wet watch the waves from The Blue Bar! You can eat fresh fish caught locally, and enjoy trying out so many local foodie haunts all within close proximity to the house. Located equidistance from St. Ives and Newquay, Mulberry is perfectly placed to discover the best of Cornwall.

Please note:
The car park is a mere 50 yards from the house, one car parking space is allocated which accommodates two cars, one behind the other.
All linen and towels are provided. You will need to bring bed linen for the cot, if applicable. You will also need to bring beach towels.
An end of rental clean is included in the price.
We accept 1 well behaved dog, others by arrangement. Note the enclosed rear patio has a low lying wall, approx 1m in height which I appreciate larger dogs might be able to jump over!
We don’t have a reliable mobile phone reception at the property, however there is free wi-fi across the complex so you can make telephone calls using the wi-fi and wi-fi calling.
Note the road down to the beach is suitable for a buggy, but is steep in parts.
The house has steps into the front door, and the road up to the house/down to the beach is steep in parts. If there are any disabled guests in your group, please do contact me to see if the house is suitable.

Our bookings have a minimum stay of 7 nights as follows:
Easter, May Half Term, July-August, Christmas and New Year. Outside of these dates there is a minimum stay of 3 days. Prices on request only. Please email me to discuss further as we can be flexible.
Check out is 10am, Check-in is 5pm
This is a non-smoking property which includes vaping.

To the rear of the property is an enclosed patio area with a picnic bench and chairs. This can be accessed via the back door, or via the side return of the house.
There is also a large outdoor cupboard with beach bits and bobs to borrow.

Children:
There is a high chair and cot (please bring your own bed linen) available at the property. There is also plenty of child friendly crockery, cups, games, DVDs and books. There is a great playground in the village and the rock pools on the beach will keep little ones amused for hours!

Dogs:
We accept a well behaved dog, we just ask you keep them off the sofas, clear up after them and ensure they do not freely roam around the complex.
There is a seasonal dog ban on Porthtowan beach, You CAN take you dog on the beach between 1st October and 14th May. From 15th May until 30th September dogs are NOT permitted on the beach between 10am and 6pm. There are plenty of beaches locally which accept dogs all year round. The coast path is a minutes’ walk from the house where there are miles of open fields and paths to walk. Furthermore in the village itself, there is a grassy/sandy area before hitting the beach proper which is fab for dogs.
The back patio is enclosed, however the height of the wall is not overly tall, approx 1m. If you look at the photo on the gallery section you can get a feel of the height.

Local Area
There is so much to discover in the local area which includes Truro, St. Agnes, St. Ives, Newquay and Penzance. The delights of Falmouth on the south coast area easily accessible. Further afield, St Michaels Mount, the cliff-edge Minnack theatre, or the Eden project are all easily visited within a day.

Mining is very much part of the Cornish heritage and there are lots of places to visit to learn more about the tin mines, which includes the opportunity to go down an old working tin mine!

Porthtowan beach is perfect for surfing and body boarding. There is a surf school in the village if you wanted to perfect your technique. Further afield you can do lots of water based activities including sea kayaking, coasteering and stand up paddle boarding.

There are a number of amazing beaches within a short drive, plenty of national trust houses and gardens to explore.
We never tire of discovering the local area, there is just so much to see and do. In the house, you will find a folder with lots of information on things to do and places to visit.

Porthtowan was lovely

By Sharon on 14-Aug-2024

Porthtowan was lovely, within easy access to lovely beaches, and St Michael’s Mount, slightly further afield. The house itself was great; a real home from home. The kids loved having an Alexa, as well as the paid apps on the tv. This enabled us to relax before bed, after days of exploring. The kitchen contains everything you need to cook family meals, the bedrooms were comfortable and the en suite shower a bonus. It was lovely sleeping with the balcony doors open, enjoying the peaceful spot. The garden was great (inc the communal area) and thanks for the supplies in the shed, which we used and put back before departure. We don’t tend to return to the same place twice, but we’d happily stay at Mulberry again. The weather made our stay even better/ memorable. I’ve already recommended the house to friends.

Great summer holiday location

By Ruth on 10-Aug-2024

Great accommodation. Worked well for family of four (2 adults to teenagers) Nice indoor seating area, good shower, appreciated multiple bathrooms. On sunny evening I liked sitting on balcony off the bedroom. Good to have microwave and dishwasher. Lots of crockery and cutlery available to use. Great has tap and outside shower on site to swill wetsuits and was able to hang these outside on hooks provided. Loved local beaches at chapel porth, Agnes and Gwithian which we drove to. Personally we preferred these to local Porthtowan, although we could easily walk down to this. Visited St Ives, Falmouth, Truro and Penzance all during our stay. Great access to coastal path. Brilliant views from high cliffs. Nice to have outside seating on veranda at front of house. Outside area at back could be kept better. Left to go wild and attracted lots of flies, so couldn’t sit out on bench for breakfast. Noticed the wild grasses/flowers had been trimmed back on other neighbouring properties. Property was not very clean when we arrived, still sandy and dirty crocks in cupboard but Lucy was very apologetic and was going to feed back to cleaning company, as understand this is not the norm. Bed in main room is getting older. Very squeaky on right hand side and mattress slides down on that side. All the other beds were comfortable.

Perfect home

By Katy B on 17-Oct-2022

“Perfect home from home with lovely comforts and some great touches such as games and toys for children to play with. Really well equipped and great internet reception so we enjoyed watching Netflix etc in the evenings. Easy walking distance to the lovely local beach and perfectly located for exploring other areas too. We had a lovely holiday and look forward to returning in the future.

Great family house in an attractive development.

We hadn't been to Cornwall for years and enjoyed rediscovering places like St Agnes and St Ives from this handy base at Porthtowan. The house is well equipped and conveniently located at the top of a hill tucked away in a cute and well maintained small development where the houses face a communal central lawn area. We walked down to the simple amenities next to the nice beach which is about a 7/8 minute walk away with our body-boards and buckets & spades and enjoyed spending days on the beach and in the sea. The local cafes were busy, there is a small gift shop and a great ice cream parlour and a shop & pub slightly further back. There are some lovely walks across the cliffs from one beach to another. All in all it was a pleasant week spent together as a family. Recommended.
