The cottage was beautiful, very well kept & had very comfortable beds. We loved the eclectic decor. The weather was wild during our stay and the cottage was very cosy. It was a great location for accessing the south west coastal footpath.
I had a lovely stay at Porthcothan Mill. The cottage was homely and comfortable, and a great place to return to after long walks in the area, especially on the beach and the clifftops. The garden is also beautiful, with plenty of space. It''s also a very convenient location for seeing the rest of Cornwall - even Penzance and St Ives were an hour''s drive away. A brilliant place for relaxing and switching off!
We have been coming to Porthcothan every year for decades but this is the first time in the valley. Kate is a great host, allowing us to bring both our Labs, who were in doggy heaven, and answering all my questions patiently. This cottage is just perfect in every way for a relaxing away from it all holiday; we only took the car out once! We arrived with the dire warnings of Storm Barbet but that passed Porthcothan unnoticed while we were on the beach with our dogs in 16c sunshine or cosied down with the log burner and the delicious cream tea left by Kate on our arrival. We can recommend the Merrymoor Inn in Mawgan Porth from this visit, the Beach store for pasties and pastries and the little store opposite the garage in St Merryn for supplies. We think the beach is the best in the area; even a doggy swimming pool at low tide which they search for endlessly at high tide , and then there''s the coast path, as far as you like in either direction with stunning views. Just be sure to bring your wellies. We''ll be back in April.
We had a lovely week at this georgeous cottage. The garden was a dellight and we enjoyed many evening walks along by the stream and adjoining fields. The walk to the beach is easy and our 3yr old grandson made it easily. The cottage has the ''home from home'' feel and did not feel like a holiday cottage, the kitchen is well stocked with all the pots, pans and saucepans you could possible want. We had an issue with the landing lights not working which was sorted out very promptly by Kate. The local beach Porthcothan Bay is great for surfing and toddlers alike as it has a very good stream running down to the sea which kept grandson and adults occupied for hours building dams and floating boats. When the tide goes out there are some wonderful walks exploring the caves. We also took our kayak out from the bay and that was fun too. There is an outside tap for rincing off wetsuits and sandy feet which was great. I must also thank Kate and Matt for the cream tea that was at the cottage on our arrival along with tea/coffee/hot chocolate and fresh milk, it was a lovely surprise to find the scones in the fridge and was a very welcome treat after a long drive down. Thank you Kate and Matt for a lovely holiday. We hope to return soon.
I have been staying in Porthcothan on and off since the 1980''s and this is by far the best place I have ever stayed in. I could write pages on how great it is, but to summarise, I would say it is the perfect place to stay. The cottage and garden are fantastic and everything you need for a successful stay have been thought of. Such a quiet and peaceful location but only a 5 minute walk to the beach over fields. We had an issue with WiFi not working ( as a result of a neighbour cutting through the wire with a hedge trimmer), but Kate rectified the problem with BT, who sent an engineer within a few hours. I could not ask more from a holiday or host.
Lovely cottage in a very special location, close to the beach but very quiet up the valley with a lovely sheltered garden. Well equipped kitchen, just one bathroom but we found it worked well with the bathroom and utility in the garden. If you love nature as well as the beach this is the place, owls hooting in the night and the valley has butterflies, dragonflies, and plenty of birdlife, sedge warblers in the reeds.
