Description

Rural without feeling remote, this converted stone-built gite set in an acre of gardens offers a haven of relaxation. Views from the pool area are simply stunning. A host of vineyards, medieval villages and outdoor activities are close at hand.
Our gite adroitly blends old and new. As you approach from your own private entrance and parking area, you are greeted by a traditional farm style house - built from local fieldstone - beneath a provencal tiled roof.

Inside, the feel is more contemporary. The upper storey offers an immense airy living area with exposed beams in skipping-stone grey. It has a state-of-the-art kitchen at one end (with induction hob, fridge, microwave and oven), breakfast bar and dining area. Beyond this is the spacious lounge, equipped with log-fire, TV and wi-fi, with expansive views across fields of lavender to the Alps in the distance.

From the lounge step through french windows onto a generous sun-drenched patio with BBQ. Adjoining the kitchen area is a cloakroom with toilet, sink, freezer and washing machine. Stairs descend to two wonderfully cool ensuite bedrooms: each has its own douche Italienne (wet-room) bathroom and french doors opening onto a small patio.

We love the simplicity and spaciousness of this house and gardens. Full of character yet with up to date facilities, this is the perfect place for friends and/or family to relax in comfort and privacy. With four daughters and a growing number of grandchildren, it is here that we meet up annually as a family. Having soaked up the sun by the pool, a long dinner with local wine on the patio beneath the star-studded night sky is a great way to chill out.
The house is well placed to explore a wealth of historic and gastronomic delights: the ancient Roman cities of Avignon, Orange and Nimes; the local markets of Dieulefit, Nyons and Vaison la Romaine as well as numerous medieval towns like Poet Laval and Grignon; and a host of quality restaurants and local vineyards.

More locally, there are villages in three directions, each a 5 minute drive away with boulangeries and cafes. Small supermarkets are 10 mins drive and the nearest hypermarkets are in the nougat capital Montelimar (20 kms).

Location
For the active minded, local activities abound: mountain hiking and birdwatching in the forest of Saou, kayaking on the Drome and Ardeche rivers, cycling, a canopy trail/adventure centre in Marsanne; tennis at local village of Charols; and first class golf at Golf de la Valdaine.

Gardens and pool
Originally adjoining a tractor barn belonging to the farm on the other side of the road, the house is now a totally self-contained property, set into a gently sloping plot of about one acre. Around the main house, the garden is landscaped, with mature trees, raised flower beds, and stone walls.

From your garden shallow stone steps rise through an archway in the hedge, to the secluded swimming pool. The pool is 11 metres by 5 metres, with steps for toddlers at one end and deep enough to dive the other. The pool area is entirely private and not overlooked, except by fields! It is landscaped with shrubs and a small pool house; wooden sun-loungers are available for guests. Beyond this we are beginning to plant further shrubs and trees. Given its elevated position you can take in views of up to 40 miles on a clear day, across to the Ardeche to the west and the Alps to the east. The location is truly breathtaking.

Owners' house
Adjoining the gite, but completely separate with its own patio, entrance gate and car parking is the converted tractor barn for use of the owners. April and Chris tend to be around in April and for periods in July-Sept. We are very glad to offer guidance on local sights and restaurants and answer any questions you may have but we will be non-intrusive and will respect your privacy.

Two ensuite double Bedrooms
Each bedroom is in the cool of the downstairs and has its own bathroom including sink, toilet and douche Italienne shower. Doors from each bedroom open onto a small paito area, wisteria and other shrubs. There is space for a cot/extra bed in one of the bedrooms.

We had a fantastic holiday at the Gite! The property & pool were lovely, set within a fabulous location. We hiked in the local area and visited cities such as Lyon and Marseille.

Ideal location in the Drôme

By pierre e. on 28-Aug-2021

Excellent!4.6/5 Comfortable rural Gîte, with splendid views

By Philip N on 13-Aug-2019

A very pleasant rural Gîte set in farmland less that 5 minutes from the charming village of Pont-de-Barret. The property is ideal for a group of four and we arranged an extra folding bed for a child. The property has easy access to the road, and all neighbouring villages and amenities are within 10-20 minutes. Access to local tourist sites, walks and cycling routes is all very easy. The hosts were welcoming and remained in the background throughout our stay. We enjoyed access to the good sized pool during a very hot period of the summer - the only negative to that being the significant numbers of a bees and wasps taking water. In short, a great property in a marvellous region to which we will certainly return to get to know better. Published Aug 28, 2019 yI6sQAIQT0qMhH9RrW4hMHDdX1lIffCrz8ljCXIKDjKrjyB/gNcujr5aVWmonxfW y. What a little taste of heaven this place is, from our arrival driving through perfect little villages towards the mountains, entering le Loft des Lavandes as the sun shone highlighting the field of lavender next to the house. It was the perfect start to our holiday. …we have loved the past two weeks, the pool, the food, the views, the vineyards, exploring medieval villages, walking through Saou forest. We have felt relaxed and refreshed, the house itself is fantastic, great size with all you need. It’s a little haven. Can’t wait to visit again and explore more of the area. Published Jul 19, 2016 Stunning location and peaceful, dreamy days 5/5 Stayed Apr 2016 simon l. This newly built and furnished gite was perfect for our family. With close up views of the mountains that ring this stunning valley, and a lavender field you could touch from the patio, we felt refreshed, restored and "repointed". It had everything we could wish for, from spacious en suites, a fully equipped modern kitchen, and a lovely host family next door (NB not always there) who were able to tell us some incredible sites to explore. These included an off road track to a ruined medieval village (you can do this in a 4x4 car), and two mountain walks with breathtaking views of two different valleys. The property is peaceful and remote yet within 10/25 minutes drive of fresh bread, wine and various towns with all the eating out and sightseeing you could wish for. Definitely coming again, the best rental in France we have ever used. See what we mean and visit! Published Apr 20, 2016 Excellent séjour en famille 5/5 Stayed Aug 2021 pierre e. Peaceful, tasteful and wonderful.

By Lise V on 14-Jun-2016

We spent a lovely week at Le Loft des Lavandes. Such peace and tranquility in beautiful surroundings made us all relax and regain our long lost energy. April and Chris are the most perfect hosts - always there discretely, ready to help and very easy to talk with. The welcome package of basic groceries, bread, milk etc was just one of many small gestures - thank you so much. The gîte is very nicely decorated with everything you need. Clean, tidy and very modern. And having the bedrooms downstairs is a brilliant idea - nice and cool even during the hottest day. All in all our very best recommendations and hoping to see you again soon. Lise V. Denmark

The pool was a godsend.

By David I, Olney on 12-Jun-2016

We really enjoyed our time here. Such a lovely, spacious building...we didn't feel crowded in at all. The pool was a godsend. With the weather staying in the mid-30s, it was wonderful to cool down a little, and spend some time just drifting about in the pool. The girls loved it! We have spent family holidays in many gites over the years, but this is the best equipped we have come across.
