We had an enjoyable week staying in Skyber cottage, which provides cosy accommodation for two people. The cottage is well equipped and nicely furnished with good quality bedding and towels and a warm duvet. There is a good shower with modern plumbing which provides lots of hot water. Chris and Mary are very welcoming. There are a couple of cattle close to the cottage in the barn, and stables with a number of horses. There’s also a pair of pygmy goats, one of which is quite inquisitive and followed me down the drive as I went for a walk one evening, until I led him back! A walk down the track beyond the farm leads over a stream and then over the river, and on past a field in which there is a pond, where I saw a kingfisher. There were buzzards circling overhead and a family of pied wagtails flying across the field. The hedge surrounding the cottage garden was very pretty with flowering dog roses and alive with families of house sparrows. The farm is situated on a quiet country lane, which becomes a track just after the turn into the farm drive, so there isn’t any passing traffic to disturb sleep, nor any bright light! Although Old Newham Farm is half a mile from a main road, it is just off the A39, known as the “Atlantic Highway” which gives good connections to other parts of Cornwall. Within a few minutes drive on the A39 is the Old Wainhouse Inn, which provides good food. It is a spectacular part of the country, with lots of interest, and in my opinion Old Newham Farm represents an excellent quiet location for touring the northern and central parts of Cornwall.
Loved our stay at Stables cottage the accomodation was characterful spotless cosy and welcoming with the most luxurious goosedown bedding which ensured a dreamy night''''s sleep. Old Newham Farm is a wonderful antidote to the stresses of modern day living completely relaxing so peaceful yet less than a minutes drive to the A39 where you can access a myriad of stunning locations, just perfect. Chris and Mary were kind and generous hosts sharing with us some local beauty spots off the beaten track and Mary''''s homemade scones with the obligatory jam and cream were most appreciated after a long drive. I would have no hesitation in recommending this quiet rural idyllic place just book it you will not be disappointed!!!
