Description

Enjoy a stay at our holiday home, a stone’s throw from the North Norfolk coast. A large garden with outdoor seating and dining, indoor heating, and a hot tub makes this home perfect for group bookings and family getaways. The holiday home sleeps up to 14 guests in 6 luxurious bedrooms, each with their own en suite. The beds all have high quality mattresses, cotton bedding with high thread count, and imported down and feather pillows – all to ensure the best night’s sleep while staying at The Old Chequers. Our home has been fully renovated to add all the modern-day conveniences while keeping its old-world charm.

The Old Chequers has lots of space for entertaining, with a large kitchen and dining area featuring a log burner, a walled courtyard with plenty of outdoor seating and a fire pit, as well as a large garden with a deck for al fresco dining. You can pass food and drinks through the arched window from the dining room to the Courtyard and Firepit area, where you can enjoy outdoor dining with friends and family under the fairy-lit sky above you. The River Burn runs through the garden, creating a shallow stream for the kids to splash around in, under adult supervision of course. There are lights all around the garden and creake so you can appreciate the garden at night, and a BBQ weber for grilling burgers, steaks, or even scallops, which can usually be bought at Burnham Market.

The living areas have been carefully laid out to provide space for relaxing, entertaining, and the kids. The sunroom conservatory faces the beautiful stone-walled garden and is a great spot to relax with a good book. The adjacent living room has comfy couches, a smart TV, and is next to the kids’ playroom. On the opposite end, another living area features a log burner, creating a cozy space to relax. Our newly added games room features a pool table and arcade games.

A spacious open-plan modern kitchen features solid wood worktops and is well-equipped with a huge freestanding oven and separate grill, as well as a stove, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, Nespresso coffee machine, milk frothers, blender, Kitchen-aid, kettle, and toaster. The utility area houses the washer, dryer, second dishwasher, sink, and two refrigerator freezers. There is enough space in the fridge to keep groceries from a large shop in Wells-next-the-sea, Burnham Market, or Fakenham fresh for your visit to The Old Chequers.

Our home is child friendly, with fireplace guards, a manual gate in the driveway, a lid for the hot tub, and toddler necessities including a cot, children’s table ware and kids’ games. We often welcome pets, and only ask that guests inquire about bringing a pet in advance.

The house is a tranquil and relaxing spot where you can disconnect from the world, but do not fret, we are connected to high-speed fibre internet and the smart TV has Netflix, Amazon video, etc. at the click of a button. The house has networked speakers throughout and music can be played simultaneously or separately in each room.

You can easily fit 2 cars in the driveway, and may be able to squeeze up to 4 in. You can also park on Front Street, right next to the house, along the bollards (the same as all the other cars in the street). Please do not park immediately outside the entrance to the courtyard as it’s on a double yellow and the small passageway where the river flows through is actually a public highway.

Now a holiday home, The Old Chequers has a rich history as a former inn and pub. For nearly 300 years, as the local pub to the nearby brewery, which is no longer in business, the Inn was the focal point of South Creake village. This historic tavern has recently been tastefully refurbished with modern conveniences. It's a fantastic home that's ideal for large groups of friends or families looking for a tranquil, relaxed getaway in a fantastic location. The village of South Creake has a children’s play area and a lovely gastropub, The Ostrich Inn, which we highly recommend.
