Appledore is so much more than just a traditional bucket and spade destination. The local area is renowned as a haven for creativity. Numerous independent galleries and artisan workshops offer a wonderfully eclectic mix of arts and crafts. Some artists exhibit in shops and markets, others have open studios in their own front room. There's also a choice of antique shops where you can browse furniture and ornaments from a bygone era.
Reflecting its artistic qualities, Appledore hosts the annual Appledore Book Festival in September. Another lively event is the Appledore-Instow Regatta, when gig boat crews race along The Quay to cheering spectators. Those wishing to experience the water first hand have a choice of fishing and sightseeing boat trips, including the seasonal ferry over to Instow at high tide. Appledore also holds the World Championship Crabbing Contest!
Depending on your group size and preferences, you can choose to book three or four bedrooms. The latter includes the ground floor double bedroom with separate shower room. Reduced rates are available for couples.
PARKING: Due to the age of the cottages in Irsha Street, there is no on-site parking. However, residents can load/unload shopping and passengers outside before parking.
Free on-street parking can be found nearby (25 yds away), linked by a small public footpath adjacent to the cottage.
3 Pay & Display car parks - 2 are 160 yards away, the 3rd is 800 yards away. All offer hourly, daily and weekly parking or you can purchase a tourist permit online. (This can be used in other Torridge district car parks). Please contact me for prices.
The Quay car park offers parking free of charge 6pm-8am.

By Helen S on 01-Oct-2024A fantastic stay at this perfectly located cottage. We've stayed in Appledore previously and this is our favourite accommodation. Plenty of room, excellently equipped but still retains a cottage/cosy feel. Communication with Holly was first class and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended

By Mike B on 01-Sep-2024We had a lovely stay at Catboat Cottage. The property is well equipped with everything that is needed to make the stay enjoyable. The decor is both modern yet with little touches to remind the visitor that it is very much part of the Appledore fishing community. Situated in Irsha Street, visitors can enjoy either a stunning walk up the street towards the Lifeboat Station passing an array of cottages decorated in various pastel shades or walk down towards the Quay and take in the charming vista of the sailing boats anchored at the mouth of the River Torridge. Appledore retains a quaintness that is both welcome in an ever- increasingly fast-paced world and charmingly quite old fashioned. There are a number of old established pubs within the village with the most popular probably being The Beaver but closely followed by The Seagate and The Royal George. ( Our favourite was The Champ ...where the beer was excellent!) Moreover, the village is at the hub of North Devon and is close to The Big Sheep children's adventure playground ( with a very rural twist) and the fabulous North Devon Coastline with its amazing views out to sea. Staying at Catboat Cottage enabled us to feel part of this vibrant community as well as being at the gateway to all the pleasures of North Devon What's not to like ?
