Description

You can holiday like King Henry V himself (he was born in the town) in this brilliant baroque Manor House on the banks of the River Monnow, a 10 minute walk from Monmouth Castle and all the independent shops, cafes and bars that make Monmouth one of the top 3 places to live in the UK according to the Sunday Times.

Indoors there's more than enough space to sleep 24, with a couple of cots for the under 3's 7 of the bedrooms have their own bathroom while 4 bedrooms share two more. Bedroom 11, a twin room, is on the ground floor with it's own loo and shower room nearby. Bedroom 10 is a large twin ensuite bedroom also accessed from the ground floor via 4 wide steps.

You'll love The Great Hall with its wood burner, satellite TV, DVD player and music system, while the light and airy dining room sits all of you round the table for those memorable celebration meals. The kitchen and breakfast room make entertaining a breeze and keep the toughest chefs happy.

On site, there's loads to keep the group happy: a games room with table tennis, pool, table football and more; a hot tub to unwind after a day's walking, canoeing or cycling in the nearby Wye Valley and Forest of Dean; a barbecue area and plenty of outdoor seating where you can relax and listen to the River Monnow slowly wind its way downstream to join the River Wye. Is there much to do? More than you can imagine.

The nearby facilities are superb: 10 minutes walk will take you to a half a dozen excellent pubs and eateries, an Indian restaurant, Aslans fish and chips, and the Monnow Trail for fantastic walking. if you bring your pets you can walk straight from the door and you don't need to cross a road - wonderful and the site is fenced and gated so your little loved ones are safe - plus as you're at the very end of the lane there's no busy traffic to deal with.

It's everything you'd want for a really great holiday: perfect for families and friends.

We walked along the river Wye to the Boat in at Redbrook and then back along the disused railway line. It was lovely, despite the rain

We loved the fact we didn’t need to go anywhere in the car to enjoy the long weekend. Walking from the house was great, dogs were very happy and no sheep! Perfect. We managed to use our canoe and paddle boards on the weir in the field opposite the house, so close to home. A couple of people ventured out to Forest of Dean and a bird sanctuary and enjoyed their time there.

19 Aug 2024 Fantastic place for large families We were a large family of 23, mostly adults with 2 being disabled and 5 kids under 14 also and we did 6 nights (mon-Fri). Prior to arriving we had good communication from Mike the caretaker/housekeeper who told us what’s what. The house fitted everyone comfortably and offered everything that we needed. Bedrooms were ideal especially those downstairs for ones in the party with mobility issues. Plenty of space for everyone to socialise inside and out. And also plenty of room for the dogs to stretch out. We had a heatwave so only used the hot tub a few times unfortunately. We went down to the river and jumped in which was refreshing, water shoes advised as lots of rocks. Monmouth town centre was only a 20min walk away so quick drive so that was ideal. A few takeaways nearby, Chinese, Indian, fish & chips. My wife and I went to a lovely Mexican restaurant called Moko’s one night which I’d recommend. We also canoeing and paddle boarding at Symonds Yat which is a short drive away. There is a lovely pub and beer garden right next to it so could spend a few hours there. Feedback for future (which is minor) is to perhaps invest in those insect nets. There is no air con in the property and because we had the windows open all day due to the heat naturally some bugs came in which didn’t go down well with some. Also to either plumb in a water cooler or get one of those special taps as the cold water didn’t actually get that cold and would have been welcomed on the hot days we had.
