We visited L’Ecurie for a family holiday in June and had a great time. The property sits in Migron, a classic village with all the French character and charm that we hoped for and a Boulangerie to die for. The warm swimming pool was a natural focus for the family with sun loungers and an outdoor dining area and some cooler shaded areas for the middle of the day. To be honest it was sometimes a struggle to drag ourselves off the swing chair overlooking the cute orchard and head to nearby Cognac and Saintes, but also well worth it. Make sure you hit the Saintes Saturday market selling the best of everything next to the impressive Cathedral. The surrounding area is all about Cognac vineyards and sunflowers which made for some great warm evening strolls. We are always slightly nervous when booking our accommodation, but everything from the comfy beds to the clean and well-equipped kitchen and bathroom was spot on. All-in we had a great family holiday and the only downside was having to head back to the ferry!
We’ve just returned from a short notice break to L’Ecurie in Migron. The village itself is lovely, surrounded by vineyards, and with its own bakery which has the best bread we’ve tasted in years. I believe they also supply other shops in the area. There are some great places to visit all within 20-30 minutes, Saintes being our favourite with its elegant main boulevard, river and Roman remains. The gite is wonderfully atmospheric and is I think a conversion of former stables. It has a well equipped kitchen that doubles as a dining area, and leads onto the outside dining space that has loads of loungers/armchairs. Ideal for eating outside which we did most days. The pool is amazing and only a few yards away, we didn’t have any children with us but it has an enclosure so should be safe for families. We also loved the upstairs lounge. We'd a couple of cooler days so we snuggled up there with the TV. The owners sent loads of information before we arrived, so we could plan our stay effectively and Bernal the caretaker was also really helpful. Highly recommend.
We recently returned from our second perfect break at L'Ecurie. Once more the house lived up to our expectations; relaxing on the beautiful terrace and swimming in the clean outdoor pool. The cottage is set up for comfort and this reflected in the smart, modern bathroom, exposed beams and snug living room. The village is a delight and the location makes it a fantastic area for exploring cognac and a wealth of little towns. We can't wait to go back!
