Special place - beautiful cottage exceeded all our expectations

By Sarah on 07-Feb-2024

My husband and I plus our dog Bonnie have just returned from a fabulous holiday at Old Lanvean cottage. We didn’t realise how much we needed this break away until we arrived. The beautiful cottage exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we walked through the gate into the pretty cottage garden and noticed the wording inscribed on the garden bench, next to the door, I knew that this was going to be a special place. The attention to detail is second to none; it is evident Kate has poured copious amounts of time, thought and love into this pretty, thatched cottage. From the thoughtful welcome, delicious treats, to the top quality, warm, cosy and comfortable furnishings and equipment, there is nothing more we could have hoped let alone wished for. We have visited and stayed in the surrounding areas for 30 years plus; Mawgan Porth in particular. However, for some reason, we have never stumbled across St Mawgan and what a gem it is. A truly beautiful and peaceful location and yet has all the amenities within a short walk away. We visited the Falcon Inn twice, enjoying their friendly hospitality as well as their delicious foods (dogs are most welcome too), a convenient village store where you can pick up all your usual essentials, an absolutely spectacular tea room and garden where we devoured a tasty afternoon tea, a delightful craft shop and last but not least, the stunning Japanese gardens. The walk into Mawgan Porth is about 40 mins but the path that leads you there is gorgeous; it’s such a pleasant walk. We were pleasantly surprised to come across a place called ‘Off the Path’ which offered breakfasts, lunches and drinks. It was in such a beautiful setting overlooking far stretching views; I would highly recommend. Mawgan Porth (happily), remains unchanged for us! Stunning coast line and immaculate beach (again dog friendly), I could quite happily spend hours there (whatever the weather). The Merrymore offers delicious food too, we visited a couple of times for breakfast and Sunday dinner. The facilities nearby also provide beautiful hot drinks (including gingerbread latte, which was to die for), croissants, homemade pasties etc; you are really spoilt for choice. To return to the cottage at the end of the day and either curl up on the comfy sofas with a cuppa or sit outside in the sunshine with a glass of wine listening to the birds, was the perfect finish to the day. Thank you so much Kate for all your effort. We hope to return again very soon.

Beautiful cottage and great location for exploring Cornwall

Beautiful cottage and great location for exploring Cornwall. Kate was excellent in her communication and support with booking and information. St Mawgan is a lovely little village with a great pub and shop and so convenient to the airport and roads to Newquay and Padstow. Cottage had all you need for a relaxing stay too.

A delightful Cornish Cottage, with every comfort with an exceptionally well equipped kitchen. Located within a very friendly village with beautiful scenery, steeped in history from the 7th century. Easy access to the coast, coast path and other walks. A really lovely experience.

The most comfortable cottage I''ve ever stayed in

By Gemma on 14-Sep-2023

Had the loveliest stay in St Mawgan- the cottage is the most comfortable cottage I''ve stayed in, it''s so tastefully furnished and has everything you need. The village is such a tranquil place for you to recharge your battery''s and close enough for all the stunning local beaches. I''ll definitely be back.

Beautiful inside and out

By Helen on 07-Sep-2023

We had a wonderful week staying at Old Lanvean Cottage, it is beautiful inside and out, very well equipped and comfortable. The location is great, just a short drive away from several beautiful beaches, or a lovely walk down a track through the woods to Mawgan Porth beach, we weren''t sure if it would be too far with children (age 3 and 5) but they really enjoyed the walk. Kate was a brilliant host, we had clear directions for finding the cottage and great communication throughout our booking and stay. I wouldn''t hesitate to recommend Old Lanvean Cottage, and hope to return one day. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
