La Vigne is a big house set in a very peaceful setting down a small road. There was plenty of room for our two cars just outside the property. The very large, well kept garden with lots of trees, was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet and listening to the birds. There is woodland all around the garden and we saw all sorts of wildlife; deer, a fox, geckos, frogs and even salamanders. The large pool was clean, a bit cold for us due to when we visited, but we used it several times. The house was comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed having our meals and playing cards around the large dining table in the large main living room. The wood burner there came in handy because the evenings were cool when we stayed. We visited the very large market at Piegut-Pleuviers twice, loads of stalls and lots to tempt us. It's an interesting little town with shops and a supermarket that sells fuel and it's not very far away. Fishing was available at Le lac de St Mathieu, not far from La Vigne. We bought day permits at the Tabac in St Mathieu. Also at the lake was La Grange du Lac, run by an English lady. We ate there twice and it was very good and reasonably priced. We would love to go back to La Vigne again one day.
We had a wonderful stay, we know the area well and was looking for somewhere close to our parents when we required a little extra space for our adult children came over to stay. The this little house was perfect. We were busy most of the time we stayed but the pool was wonderful treat after a busy day. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and play games, watch movies or just chilling listening to music playing games.
We had a brilliant 2 week stay at La Vigne. Tucked away in a quiet village near Marval. The pool was a great addition to the property and loved by our children. The village has a little store and a wonderful restaurant plus a Sunday market for great crepes! We didn’t have to tell then children to be quiet as it was surrounded by forests where they could run free and safely. Claire is so helpful with any enquiries too.
We stayed at La Vigne for 4 weeks. Its a lovely country house with the most amazing pool and garden. The house was lovely with a big veranda looking over the pool and garden, this is where we spent almost every evening sitting listening to the birds and later in the evening the crickets as that's all you can hear which is perfect. The local shop in the village sells everything you can think of as well as bread and croissants etc, which you can also order. We also had a meal in the restaurant / bar in the village and the food was amazing, definitely worth a visit. we wouldn't hesitate to go back, it is a really lovely little house in a beautiful peaceful setting.
The location of La Vigne is perfect if you’re happy to lie next to the pool with only the sounds of the crickets and cuckoo’s to keep you company. The property is a quirky layout which is perfect for hide and seek. A car is essential as there is lots to visit within an hours drive.
We stayed here with our 3 children and had a marvellous 2 weeks, the children could run free in the huge wooded garden whilst we sat and relaxed on the verandah or by the pool with a glass of local wine. The pool is alarmed for peace of mind meaning we could properly switch off and enjoy the house and its surroundings. The house is totally secluded and situated on a quiet lane yet its easy to get around, for shopping and sight seeing. It is super well equipped and comfortable without being fussy, and has lots of space for everyone to enjoy. We loved the fact it is not pretentious or a show home and we didn't have to be paranoid about kids running in with wet feet from the pool although we discouraged it! The grounds are stunning and we loved seeing an abundance of wild life, from lizards, grass snakes, glow worms and dormice, and star gazing at night was also amazing! We also loved the lake swimming at St. Estephe, and river swimming in Brantome. Facilities in France are just brilliant, free parking and the lakes have decent toilet facilities and cafes, lots of life guards and even free kayaks. You can stay all day without having to spend any money... such a difference from the UK! Claire has created a beautiful, authentic and fun home in France with everything you need, and Teri was on hand to help with everything from where to get the best bread to how to get an emergency doctor appointment (nothing serious thankfully!). Thank you for a wonderful 2 weeks and we look forward to visiting again!
