My wife and I had a wonderful week here staying in Derek and Lisa's very comfortable three bedroom house. Although it was only a short walk to the shops and restaurants of the town we decided to rent bicycles for the week which worked perfectly for us as there are plenty of cycle paths and it is easy to get around on a bike. The house itself has a fully equipped, modern kitchen, ample dining space both inside and out and it also has a separate lounge/TV room. The pool and garden are south facing allowing for plenty of sunshine throughout the day. The house is very clean and nicely decorated, with secure parking on site. There is plenty to do and see in the area and Derek and Lisa are more than happy to give advice and recommendations. All in all, a relaxing and enjoyable week.
Derek and Lisa are lovely and very accommodating hosts, and made us and our Labrador-Lucca - very welcome. The villa is a well equipped home from home…. With a pool! We had a great week of relaxing, exploring Marseillan… the port area is great, especially in the evening and just a short walk away, kept going back again and again. Marseillan Plage is a short drive away and is definitely a ‘holiday hotspot’, some will love it, some maybe not, but definitely check it out.
Thank you to Derek and Lise for a wonderful stay. Too short but every minute perfect. The house is clean, comfortable and welcoming. The WiFi worked well, in case you need to be in touch with the wider world. The crowning element was the pool, where we kept cool and relaxed among the garden plants. The location is perfect for walking into Marseillan or to the beach, and there is a local boulangerie nearby for morning croissants. The wider region is beautiful. Derek was full of tips for restaurants and wine tasting, and both he and Lise were excellent hosts. We look forward to returning next year!
We had a great time at Villa Belles de Mai in Marseillan. Derek and Lise are lovely hosts; very friendly and helpful, with lots of good ideas and suggestions. The accommodation is very well appointed and spacious with all the equipment we needed and more! It is well located between Marseillan port and ‘old town’, and the beach - all are easy to get to on foot or by bike (we didn’t have the need to drive) and there is an excellent boulangerie and supermarket nearby. There are lots of lovely restaurants and bars - we enjoyed going out and also eating in - the property has a lovely courtyard dining area with an excellent barbecue. It was also great having the TV (with English channels) and DVD player, when the heat of the summer sun was too much!
All reviews are subjective. What we want from our holiday might not be what you want. We originally asked for the garden apartment also owned and let by Derek and Lisa, but that was taken and, as flights were booked for three days time, took pity on us and offered us the villa at a reduced rate. OMG. We were, as the French say, gaté. The villa is tucked away in a quiet residential area, beautifully equipped and decorated, outside areas aren’t overlooked. We needed total r and r, so we spent our mornings truffling local markets, returning with our spoils to read, sunbathe, swim before either cooking up said deliciousness or wandering slowly (I had a hip replacement three weeks later) to Marseillan and local taverns. We did go to the beach once, but we only had a week. Had we stayed longer than the oyster shacks of the Thau beckon. Derek and Lisa are perfect hosts, there if you need them but otherwise discreet. If you want bustling bars, the buzz of nightlife and fast food, look elsewhere. If you are a gourmand, love seafood, appreciate the effort put into making the villa incredibly easy and comfortable, and enjoy tranquility, then this is your place.
Just returned from a wonderful two month stay. The villa exceeded our expectations; extremely well stocked with everything we required, especially in the kitchen. The garden area is a fantastic sun trap - even in March! The location is ideal for an easy 15 minute stroll along the stunning étang to Marseillan to enjoy some of the local bars and restaurants. The beautiful beach of Marseillan Plage is a 5-10 minute drive away. There are several picturesque towns within a 40 minute drive which are well worth exploring and countless vineyards where you can taste the local wines. Derek and Lisa are delightful, friendly hosts who could not have been more helpful. Highly recommended. Guest rating:
