Description

For rent, “Les Alouettes” is a beautiful single story stone villa in Malaucène, Vaucluse, Provence. Although originally built as a Berger (a shepherd’s home) it has been totally restored to become the charming and comfortable home, in the spirit of Provence, that it is today. It has a professionally maintained large private garden and an alarmed free-form swimming pool.

The house is located a few hundred meters from the centre of the town with its shops, boulangeries and a dozen restaurants. It is also beside the town park which has a lake, a good work-out course and municipal tennis courts, all with the beautiful background of the mountains at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The property has a side entrance to the municipal car park leading up to the town, with all its facilities, by foot 50 – 100 meters.

The owner now lives independently at the far end of the large villa. The terrace has a trellis, one side offers a larger area for guests, the other side a smaller area for the owner. She will not be sharing your terrace nor the swimming pool. She (or her representative) will welcome you and give you an introduction to the property. After, if you need her, you will be able to either send her an e-mail, or phone her or send her an SMS message; otherwise you will see her or her representative on departure

This little town, at the foot of the “Giant of Provence”, is famous for being including on the Tour de France and is surrounded by the best Southern Rhone vineyards. It has restaurants, bars, electric car recharger base, high class Spa - (Pilates, yoga and other classes), weekly market (Wednesdays), 12th Century church offering classical concerts during July and August (after the weekly market), pharmacy, doctors, dentists, physiotherapist, nurses, beautician, hairdressers, post office, photographer, supermarket, garage, hotels, newsagent, bakeries, patisseries, tennis courts, and all are easily within walking distance (50-100 meters to the start of the shops and restaurants, 700 meters from the villa to the church at the top of the town). Other - horse riding, walking/hiking, paragliding.

FANTASTIC!

By Adam Chivers on 30-Sep-2023

FANTASTIQUE! 30 September, 2023 Hi Maria, What a lovely time we have had at Les Alouettes. The house is so lovely and welcoming, we shall ever treasure (in no particular order): 1. Days on the terrace playing backgammon, reading, early evening glasses of rosé 2. Exploring the countryside – so many marvellous walks 3. Evenings in Malaucene – menu du jour and much conversation; and (last but by no means least) 4. Reading Bill Larkworthy’s memoirs and enjoying Maria’s company. A wonderful holiday, Adam, Clare et al x

The perfect holiday destination

By Clare & Adam Chivers on 13-Sep-2023

We took a bit of a punt in choosing Les Alouettes and Malaucene for our 18-day holiday as we were not familiar with either. We were fantastically lucky with both. The house was beautifully equipped and a real home, full of character (a product of the fact that the Irish owner, Maria, had lived there until recently). It had all we needed. We particularly loved the coolness of the house (the weather was hot!), the beautifully shady terrace where we could read and eat comfortably and, for the sun lovers, the sunny terrace, garden and pool. Maria now lives next door and was on hand to explain anything about the house and the neighbourhood when we needed help. But she made it clear that she would only do that if asked. She respected our privacy completely - a lovely lady. The house was delightfully quiet – despite the fact it was close to the town. We were able to stroll into the centre in 5 minutes – to pick up baguettes and croissants in the morning, eat out at one of several restaurants in the evening (E22 was very typical for a good 3 course plat du jour in the evening) or watch the boules in festival week. The area is packed with beautiful historic buildings, lovely local villages and towns and wonderfully, hilly green countryside. We recommend Maria, Les Alouettes and Malaucene without hesitation!

Well that is a wonderful review. How kind of you to take such time and trouble to do it. You were the perfect guests and I look forward very much to a return visit, if you can make it. You know you will be warmly welcomed. Maria

A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN

By Sarah Rayment on 23-Aug-2023

23 August, 2023 Dear Maria, Thank you so much for letting us share your little slice of Heaven. We have loved every minute. The house is very homely and very well equipped. It is in a very good location to explore this part of Provence and even better if your husband is cycling mad like mine! We have had a lovely time exploring medieval villages, local markets, mountains and all the delicious locally produced food & wine. We’ll definitely be back! The Rayments, Sarah, Ben, Ethan & Finley
