Gorgeous French farmhouse

By Jen Powell on 17-Aug-2024

We were blown away by this house and had a wonderful holiday there with our three young adult children. The photos don’t do it justice, it’s so comfortable and spacious with nothing lacking in any way. For us the highlight was the garden - private and quiet, with two dining spaces, one under sail shades, one by a tree. And of course we used the beautiful pool every day to cool down during the lovely long hot days we had. Paul and Carolyn themselves were unfailingly helpful and welcoming while being completely unobtrusive. Their tips about restaurants and parking spots were excellent. We are already thinking about a return visit!

Thank you so much Jen. It was a pleasure to have you stay.

A warm and inviting staying in a picturesque home

By Georgia on 21-Oct-2023

Our group of six - including two children of 6 and 10 had a an wonderful stay at Paul and Carolyn's country side retreat in October The house is beautiful with an abundance of french character and appeal, it felt like a real home with attention to detail such as artwork that represents the local area. Creature comforts are a plenty in terms of coziness and soft furnishings down to the bathrobes that awaited us for the immaculate indoor pool. Every convenience that could possibly be needed for a family staying and self catering was provided and in the kitchen! The welcome basket was also a thoughtful and lovely touch. Sadly the weather was not our friend, but actually that did not hamper our stay at all as the children adored spending every moment possible in the heated pool. The house is well located as it has many local towns surrounding which are delightful for a potter and in warmer months there are many outdoor activities available. The house is also well positioned for going slightly further afield. Carolyn and Paul are both very knowledgable reference good places to eat in the area and also for lovely places to visit too! We will definitely be back!!! Many thanks to Carolyn and Paul our generous, friendly and helpful hosts, for our wonderful stay!!!

A beautiful holiday home with great hosts in the stunning countryside of the Charente-Maritime

By The Whiter family on 12-Aug-2023

Our extended family gathered here at no 22 for a two week holiday and we all found it the perfect place for relaxing days in the beautiful garden by the pool and also the perfect comfort to return to after a day out. The house is extremely well equipped with comfy beds and fans in each room as the temperatures soared! Carolyn and Paul made us all so welcome and were on hand to help with any suggestions for restaurants or local places to visit, even helping by phoning and booking a table for us when we felt our limited French might not be understood . We can highly recommend this beautiful home as a base to explore Cognac, Saint Jean D’Angely, Angouleme and the pretty villages and beaches of the Charente-Maritime. We loved it!

A truly memorable holiday in a beautiful home.

We spent a fantastic two weeks at Paul and Carolyn’s with another family (4 adults 4 kids). Beautiful very clean and well kept house and garden, well equipped kitchen and extremely quiet and relaxing. Kids loved the pool and playing in the garden and we had lots of very memorable cycles and wild swims / rope swings along the banks of the nearby river. Also a great spot for stargazing! Paul and Carolyn were brilliant hosts offering tips on the best local restaurants and places to visit and delivered us some beautiful fresh produce from their garden. All of us loved our trip and would definitely come back. A magical holiday!

Fantastic peaceful haven with wonderful hosts

By Veronica Payne on 11-Jul-2023

Our stay at Number 22 was just perfect. There is nothing we would change. From the moment we arrived, we felt it was a perfect home from home. We were warmly welcomed by Paul and Carolyn who made sure that if we needed anything that we were to ask. It was a real comfort to know they were just next door but you still felt like you were in a completely private paradise. The house itself was fantastic. From the shutters which ensure a good night’s sleep and air throughout the day without insects, to everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that you could possibly need being there, we did not want to leave. We loved it so much we really did not want to leave a review because selfishly we did not want others to find this beautiful farmhouse in such a great location for visiting some beautiful French places. We will be going back, probably many times. Should you go? Obviously not…😁

Home from Home

By Catriona on 22-Sep-2022

No 22 is a very special and unique place. You immediately feel relaxed and welcome and it’s easy to imagine settling in and living as a local, which make it a very hard place to leave. Paul and Carolyn are fabulous hosts and nothing is too much trouble if you need help with local information. Having an indoor pool is brilliant and the setting in the Barn is beautiful. It means that you can swim anytime of the day or in any weather. The garden is spacious and lovely with several comfortable seating areas, one of which is equipped with a BBQ and shaded so you can enjoy a leisurely lunch in the heat of the day. Inside, all the rooms are spacious and decorated with comfortable furniture which feels typically French. The kitchen is one of the best equipped I have come across and the bedrooms are light, airy and relaxing with clean, well-equipped bathrooms. It really is a home from home and a place to which we love to return over the years.”
