Description

Les arbieux gite, a property parts of which goes back to the 12th, is located at the top of the hill which overlooks the small village of La Sauvetat-sur-Lède , midway between the town of Villeneuve- sur-Lot and the hilltop of the medieval village of Monflanquin. The owners live on site at the rear of the house and help for any requirement if necessary and daily pool cleaning.
Entrance into the gite is situated at the front of the house overlooking orchards of prune trees which is ideal for dog's walking. The accommodation consists of :

ON THE GROUND FLOOR
Double bedroom with king size bed and adjoining shower room & WC.
Family bedroom, double king size bed and full-size adult bunk beds on ensuite/ bath / shower and WC.
Fully equipped kitchen and separate lounge with table and chairs and seating plus TV SKY free to air and DVD/CD player.

UPSTAIRS
Master bedroom with king size bed and ensuite shower room, WC. There is also a TV SKY free to air and DVD player. This bedroom now has the benefit of recently installed AIR CONDITIONNING.

All bedrooms have cooling celling fans. The gite is WIFI friendly and the access to the garden, the pool and the terraces is via a side gate alongside the house.

OUTSIDE The garden has two terraces and a pool.

One terrace overlooking the pool with a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. Table and chairs and parasol are there for eating or drinking. At the end of the terrace is a table-tennis.

The BBQ terrace above the pool is roofed and lit for evening use. It has a summer kitchen consisting of a fridge, a sink with hot water, a cupboard with all crockery and cutlery and glasses etc... Around this terrace the garden is also lit for barmy nights.

Going down 3 steps takes you to the heated saltwater swimming pool. The size is 11,5 m x 5m with Roman end. The decking at the end of the pool has a Tonnelle which gives a shaded area for 3 sunbeds. At the other end there are 6 sunbeds and parasols. The pool is cleaned regularly by the owner and is exclusive to the use of the customers. However, the owners have the use of the pool if the customers are away from the gite.

In the village of La Sauvetat-sur-Lède (5 mn walk from the gite) there is a bar/restaurant where it is possible to buy fresh bread and a good selection of take away pizzas.
The Bastide town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot (8 kms away) is a medium size town with a good variety of shops & large supermarkets, with the river Lot flowing through the center where they organize weekly free concerts on the riverbanks. For those who like eating out, there is a large selection of restaurants to choose from. Close to Villeneuve is the beautiful village of Pujold which offers a fantastic view.

Monflanquin, one of the most stunning of the bastide towns with its hilltop location offers some very good restaurants and a large Casino supermarket open 7 days a week. This medieval village comes alive with the medieval festival where for three days in the middle of August the town is transformed back into the 12th century with jousting knights & people dressed in the clothes of the period.
Places worth visiting, Chateau Biron restored castle and Monpazier, beautiful bastide town. Beynac is also worth seeing, 1 h journey time. Some of the best canoeing on the Dordogne with stunning sceneries.

25% deposit of the total holiday cost is required for all bookings made, with the balance payable one month prior to arrival.

Please note a refundable deposit of £150 is required per booking. If the Gite has not been cleaned at the end of the holiday an amount of £50 will be retained.

French Bliss

By Ben & Jodie on 03-Aug-2024

We had an amazing 2 week stay at the beginning of August '24. Bruce and Ann were amazing hosts! No request was too much for either of them and they always ensured things ran smoothly for us and our daughters. Their knowledge of the area and recommendations for what we could do each day were first class; i.e. best markets to go to. The facilities at the house were excellent. We used the pool daily and every evening we sat outside on the undercover dining area with BBQ and kitchen facilities. This is a perfect location for anyone wanting to access nearby medieval towns and markets on day trips out. You can fully immerse yourself in the wonderful French lifestyle by staying at Bruce and Ann's property!

Excellent in every way

By Sarah and Richard on 13-Jul-2024

We loved staying here, everything was perfect. The house was spotless, spacious and very well equipped. The pool, garden and bbq area just amazing. We loved it so much we have already booked again for next year. Never stayed anywhere so good and enjoyed a couple of lovely evenings with the kind and helpful owners at the night market in Monflanquin. Just wonderful to relax by the super pool and a super spot for exploring the area too. Perfect!

Our holiday at Les Arbieux

By Paul Gibbons on 26-Aug-2023

We spent two weeks of our summer holidays in Les Arbieux late August and early September 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed our experience staying in this lovely and well equipped gite . Our hosts , the owners Bruce and Anne, made us feel more than welcome and did everything to make our two week holiday enjoyable and memorable. We used to live in this charming area of Monflanquin in Lot et Garonne and wished to return to revisit old haunts. There is so much to do and see in this area and especially the wonderful local night markets which are in abundance and close by. The gite has easy access by car to many lovely Bastide towns, day markets and night markets such as our personal favorites being Monflanquin, Gavaudin ,Villeréal and the spectacular hilltop village of Pujols overlooking Villeneuve on the Lot river and surrounding countryside. Of particular interest one of our favorite haunts is the stunning village of Beynac situated right on the river Dordogne where we spent a day to include a boat trip on the river and a lovely al fresco lunch at a restaurant on the river banks , very nice and very reasonably priced. Our party consisted of three couples of a mature nature and the gardens, BBQ area and beautiful heated pool were all so very much appreciated during our visit. Our first week stay included a BBQ on the large and fully equipped terrace overlooking the pool area and the night lights on the heated pool were so very inviting for an evening swim in the balmy evening air. On the second week we were joined by our hosts Bruce and Anne for another BBQ who proved to be excellent company. How lucky they are to live in such a beautiful area. Thank you Bruce and Anne for making our holiday so enjoyable. We certainly intend to return to this gite. Paul & Esther Gibbons from Jersey Channel Islands and family members.

Peaceful haven

By Sally Phillips on 08-Jul-2023

Our family of 5 (4 adults and one child) stayed in this peaceful haven for 2 weeks in July. The weather was very hot for most of our stay, so we spent most of our time relaxing in the beautiful terraced gardens, making the most of shade by the pool and the garden kitchen. We had everything we could possibly need to cater lavishly for ourselves in superb comfort. The village is very quiet & we rarely saw a vehicle whilst we were walking the country roads, exploring. The cottage is nicely remote from any hussle and bussle but had everything we could possibly need, even cable TV - although we didn't try that. It is a quick drive to Villeneuve or Montflanqiun for the morning bread run or to replenish our stocks at the hypermarkets and farmers markets - The local market in Villneuve (Friday morning I think) was a real treat and should not be missed. The local bar serves great pizzas and nice cold beer, which we enjoyed a couple of times, the card machine wan't working, and we didn't have enough cash - but they were very kind to let us pop back the next day to settle up. We had a few day trips out to explore the region, and sample the wonderful local produce. Anne could not be more helpful, always happy to answer any questions and she gave us lots of tips and ideas for places to go and things to see and try. Unfortunately, Bruce was recovering from an accident, so was stuck in bed for the time we were there. This is the perfect place to escape to the country and unwind.

A very enjoyable holiday

By John BLT on 23-Jul-2022

This holiday property shares the same building (a former priory) as the owners, but is a self contained unit on two floors, and has extensive views across the valley from the rear patio area. The owners are friendly but not intrusive, giving advice on local night markets, shopping and restaurants. The self contained barbeque with table and chairs and a sink in the private garden was great, as was the fridge which stored cold drinks throughout the day. Fantastic for those really hot and sunny days! The exclusive use of the heated pool (screened by trees and bushes) was superb, and was cleaned early every morning, while the sunbeds and parasols did not cramp the area which was a real suntrap, access being gained via steps down from the garden. The accommodation caters for 8 although there are bunk beds in a family ensuite room, the other 2 bedrooms also having their own shower rooms. There is a lounge/dining area with 'french windows' to a small patio, and a galley kitchen which was quite adequate. The rental price of the property bearing in mind this area of France is very reasonable for the facilities on offer, and we had a lovely holiday with gorgeous weather during our 2 week stay. We saw little of Bruce and Ann although both were very hospitable, and we shared an evening of drinks and nibbles on the patio during one evening, and went to a night market with them in Monflanquin. All round it was a holiday to remember.

Fantastic House and Location

By The Way Family on 09-Jul-2022

This was our 3rd time staying here in Bruce and Annes lovely house. The outside space is fantastic with a great pool and barbecue area. The barbecue area has everything you need, including a fridge, sink and hot water supply, meaning you don't need to travel back and forth into the house. The pool is fantastic with lots of seating around the edge, complete with a shaded area as well if you need to escape the sun. Inside has 3 big bedrooms, 2 of which are en suite and the 3rd has its own private bathroom. ,Bruce and Anne are a lovely and friendly couple who are always willing to give you advice or help in any way.. The location is perfect with everything you need only a very short drive away. There is a lovely bar/restaurant in the village which is definitely worth going to. for food and drink. Highly recommend this house hence we have stayed there 3 times.
