A beautiful cottage set in a quiet village with a great little pub around the corner with friendly staff and good food. Situated just a short distance from Appleby with its lovely church and handful of shops which provide all the essentials and more. Margaret, the host, couldn't have been nicer and the thoughtful welcome bits & bobs were much appreciated and a lovely touch. The log burner is a fab bonus and kept the cottage toasty and cozy. Bliss :)
We had a lovely relaxing holiday at Grooms Cottage. The cottage is a real home away from home and we had everything we needed for a weeks break walking in the surrounding hills, with our dog, and also visiting local towns such as Appleby. Welcoming gifts of wine and delicious biscuits were very much appreciated as was the plentiful supply of fuel for the traditional multi-fuel stove, which kept us warm and cosy throughout the week. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to unwind and get away from it all. We will be back!
Quiet , clean, everything you need. Owners are fantastic & there was thoughtful gifts on our arrival. Beautiful cottage. 10/10 every time & we've been there many times
We really loved our stay at this cottage, thanks Margaret for the complimentary wine & delicious biscuits. The cottage had everything you need, it was very clean, had a really comfy bed, nice bathroom with electric shower and although we didn’t need to put the multi stove on it was so good to know that there was fuel in the bunker outside. The garden to the front is very well kept and dog friendly and in a quiet location, it was really lovely just sitting outside in the warm sunshine. There is a good local pub (Masons Arms) that we ate in serving excellent food and ale. Plenty of walks in the area and some virtually from the doorstep and in a good location with Appleby only a few miles away with places to eat and drink there. Also good location for visiting places such as Pooley Bridge, Keswick and Kirkby Stephen etc.
Amazing trip to this beautiful cottage. Easily accessible to the north and west lakes and many gorgeous walks. Great communication with Margaret. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

This was our second stay at Groom's Cottage and we had another very happy and relaxing short break. Instant relaxation as soon as we unlocked the door! It is well placed to explore the area, and this time we did a couple more great walks. One above Haweswater and the other, Nine Standards Rigg, above Kirkby Stephen. We all love the cottage garden - it is fantastic to have such a dog-friendly space that is so beautifully tended. Thank you Margaret for making our little holidays so easy and comfortable. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. I am sure we will be back, as it is lovely to see Groom's Cottage and the area at different times of the year.
