As a family of four, we have stayed at this house both in Summer 2023 and more recently in Autumn this year and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The house itself is really lovely. Very comfortable and spacious with all mod cons and with the bonus of an amazing swimming pool. But it is the countryside around which really sets it apart. It’s in a beautiful location and yet still within a conveniently short drive of the SuperU in Vernoil as well as being not far from the main town of Saumur. The wider area also has so much to offer. From the stunning châteaux of the Loire through to the vineyards, the wine caves and even the mushroom caves - not to mention the history of Fontevraud Abbey. Further afield we also enjoyed a couple of days this year at the incredible history park Puy de Fou which I’d highly recommend. Overall, the house is the perfect rural base to relax and explore all the best that the Loire has to offer. We very much hope to be back next year.
A quiet corner of French countryside. Plenty big enough for four people, good sized kitchen. Pool area was beautiful, and private, a real suntrap. The back garden is sheltered, and a lovely place to eat. Parking and access were easy. Lots of information on how to manage the gite.
Had a lovely time in this spacious old property. Lovely pool and gardens, all very private. In beautiful countryside with sunflowers surrounding the area and deer in the fields. Very quiet for evening walks watching the sun go down. Five mins to local supermarket and many chateaux to visit in under an hours drive. We enjoyed the Cadre Noir and tank museum in Saumur too.
We loved staying for two weeks at the Loire Hideaway. Its a really apt name for the lovely gite just north of Saumur and a great gateway to all things Loire, Chateaux, beautiful scenery and wonderful wines and food. The situation is great as its right off the beaten track in agricultural land, with one or two neighbouring properties, but you'd not really know that anyone was living in them. We loved the situation, watching the asparagus being picked on some mornings and the promise of fields of sunflowers just beginning to shoot up (we were here in early June). Birdlife was great, hadnt heard a cuckoo for a few years in the UK - but heard it most days. Great to see hares too - brilliant watching them run down the roads. (incidentally you hardly ever see another car!) The best thing about the property is that it has everything we wanted. a lovely family communal kitchen, a great pool, and well tended lawns for lounging around outside. No wifi was a massive plus as it helped us switch off from tech for a few days, the 4G signal (and 5G sometimes) was perfect for sending email etc but if you want to stream video or online gaming it could get tricky with having to buy extra data bolt-ons. Free Wifi cafe is about 10 mins drive away and the english owers were really lovely and very helpful. Bakery (10 mins drive) is fabulous, best croissants and pain-au-chocolat ever. Good supermarkets nearby - if you are doing any cooking yourself. Easy to find and the interactions with Lynne the owner were first class - very efficient communications and they were very obliging with additional information. Think its been a few years since the property had been let, since prior to covid, but you can tell the original conversion was done really well and sympathetically. (Loved the ceilings and the stonework around the doors and windows.) Its simply furnished but had everything we needed and it really helped us unwind. It has satellite TV but we didnt switch it on once. It you want a bit of an escape and a tech detox - this is brilliant.
The property is well appointed with all mod cons and a lovely pool and sunbathing area outside. The overriding feature is undoubtedly the peace and quiet and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Excellent supermarket 5-minutes away and a short drive to beautiful Saumur and the Loire Valley with chateaux, abbeys and caves all well worth a visit.
