Description

This beautiful spacious two storey Charentaise stone Farmhouse and outbuildings date from about 1840. Located within easy access of Cognac and Angouleme. Sympathetically restored the house offers 4 double bedrooms, one has a mezzanine with double bed and sofa bed below and so can sleep 10, two reception rooms and a large fitted open kitchen. Outside around the enclosed courtyard are a games barn, heated swimming pool with large sunbed area, a walled garden and a small wood running down to a stream. The house is equipped for babies and small children, if required.
The house is situated in a small hamlet with four other houses and the road ends 50 metres past the house. The local countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, the roads are quiet and the gentle rolling hills and valleys of this part of the Charente are very welcoming. It is just a ten minute walk through the vines to the village of 700 people, where you can enjoy a coffee or drink. The village has a chateau, baker, butcher, doctor, pharmacy and general store/bar.
The city of Angouleme, the capital of the Charente, is stunning with two large daily markets and is only 40 minutes away. There is a rock festival every year, as well as vintage car races around the ramparts and hot air balloons spectacular. In the opposite direction, the house is within easy reach of huge beaches at Royan and the Ile de Re and the grand city of Bordeaux. Also close by is Cognac, the centre of the brandy industry. There are brandy making tours well worth a visit and river trips and kayaks available here and at Jarnac. For more entertainment there are roof top bars at Cognac and at the Hotel spa 20 minutes away.
If you just want to relax and soak up the sun , you can stay by the pool and the fruit trees.

The perfect place for a holiday with pals

By Hana on 24-Aug-2024

This villa is absolutely stunning! Peter and Laura were easy to speak to before our booking, and the instructions/ house guidelines made us feel settled before we'd even arrived. We were a group of 7 adults, and each slept comfortably in the house. The grounds are gorgeous, and the pool utterly fab! The new sun loungers were perfect for us. The kitchen is one of the best stocked I've ever cooked in. Every pan you could wish for to prepare big dinners, large salads for 7 adults! Which is super rare in a rental property. There were loads of towels to use by the pool and for the shower too. We really enjoyed the outdoor eating area, it's such a beautiful place to have dinner in the evenings - and the bbq was a great touch! the location is great and there's plenty of room for multiple cars although we only had one. Lots of us, myself included, went on locals runs or bike rides everyday as the roads are quiet and you can run through the vines. Overall this was the perfect place for us and we're really looking forward to coming back again in the future! Chez Jonchere is heavenly :)

A wonderful taste of rural France

By Jack Leighton on 17-Aug-2024

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chez Jonchère. This is a beautiful property, perfect for getting away from it all, but within easy car journey of amenities and attractions. It has excellent facilities and a fabulous and safe swimming pool, which the children adored. Our hosts were tremendously accommodating, easily contactable, and provided everything we could have asked for. I would highly recommend staying here.

A little treasure surrounded by vineyards and peace

By Julie Weller on 29-Jun-2024

It was a delight spending time at Chez Jonchere. The house is situated on a quite lane about 15 minutes walk through vineyards from the very picturesque village of Lignieres-Sonneville., which hosts a butcher, baker, chemist, petrol station and hairdressers. Chez Jonchere is a well appointed comfortable farmhouse sitting in enclosed grounds so ideal for well behaved dogs and children. The kitchen is a delight to cook in, as furnished with lots of pans, cooking utensils, and a large fridge/ freezer. The nearest decent supermarket we found to be only 15 mins drive away so it was very easy to self cater. The lovely and decent sized swimming pool is accessed by a flight of stone steps off the central courtyard. These steps could be easily blocked off if toddlers and pre swimmers were in the party preventing access to the pool. The pool was also alarmed which adds an added layer of security for families with pre swimmers. Sun loungers were also provided making the pool area a very relaxing spot when the sun shines. There is a sizable lawn to the side of the house which was excellent for ball games and badminton. We found a broad selections of Board games in the hall cupboard and spent many nights sitting round the kitchen table in heated games of monopoly. There are 2 toilets, a shower and an additional bath situated in the master bedroom. Table tennis and bikes were also provided. All in all a really lovely spot which we are considering re booking for next year.
