Description

Would you like to stay on the best beach in the UK? With views of Godrevy Lighthouse and St Ives Bay, this popular Beach Bungalow vacation rental is Ferrymans Rest, the historic home of the ancient Lelant to Hayle Ferrymen. Being based on the magnificent Porthkidney Sands Beach, St Ives Bay, it is situated in a location that won the coveted title of Best UK Beach by The Times/Sunday Times in 2024.

Ferryman's Rest is ideal for groups of up to ten people and has all the amenities you could want in a beachfront home. A favourite with the guests is being able to drink some bubbles whilst enjoying being in bubbles and being mesmerised by the ever changing views or watching the stars come out at night with the soothing sound of the sea in the background.

You will be pleasantly surprised by Ferryman's Rest's air of lightness, brightness, and hospitality as soon as you enter. With white wooden floors, high vaulted ceilings, and beach-inspired artwork and decorations scattered throughout, the décor is distinctly seaside-centric. A spacious dining and living space with a huge driftwood inspired table overlooking the bay. A sit around table where you can enjoy long, leisurely dinners and while away many an hour chatting and catching up with family and friends. If you don't wish to stay sat at the table sit back and relax on a large very comfy sofa with a massive flat screen TV for group film watching or gaming as a great finishing touch why not light up the wood stove to warm you up after an evening beach stroll.

The open plan living and dining area is connected to the long, fully furnished galley kitchen with patio doors that open onto the terrace. Guests have repeatedly commented that it is a well stocked "Cook's Kitchen". Perfect for cooking some fresh local shellfish and sipping some crisp white wine.

If you wish to be peaceful and away from the living room action, it's possible to enjoy the stunning views from the conservatory/ sun room where there is another dining table that also overlooks the bay. Perfect for busy mornings and nights when guests want to enjoy some stillness and me time. Alternatively, it can be set up as an impromptu work office for remote working whilst being by the sea.

You'll likely want to spend most of your time outside on the stunning patio if you're there in the summer. After a day on the sandy Lelant Porthkidney Beach, which is reachable by a flight of steps straight from the terrace, come back and enjoy some fresh local produce prepared on the patio Chimney BBQ. A fantastic location for outdoor eating and entertaining.

In addition to being well-known for its pristine crystal clear waters, so after a day of swimming, walking and building sandcastles, return to the terrace for a refreshing drink, a delicious meal from the barbecue and the soothing sound of the waves crashing beneath you.

You have four excellent rooms to pick from when it's time to go to sleep. All can have the option of providing a double bed space. These consist of two king-size rooms and a triple bunk room with a double below and a single above, as well as an eaves bedroom which can be made into a double as well as the potential to roll out the trundles to provide four singles that would be ideal for kids or friends sharing.
Simple, tidy, and cool décor characterises the bedrooms. Beauty sleep is a holiday prerequisite so let the live sound of the sea soothe you whilst drifting off into a restful night's sleep on a lovely comfy mattress.

You can utilise the white quartz tiled family bathroom in the morning, which features heated towel rails to keep things warm and fluffy and a large bathtub with a shower overhead. Additionally, there is a separate shower area.

There is a lot to enjoy in the region, even if you decide to leave our paradise by the sea. Enjoy a morning stroll with breathtaking views by using the South West Coastal Footpath. The house is based directly on the St Michael’s Way Pilgrimage Route and part of the Camino so you can get your first Camino stamp just by walking to Ferrymans Rest! Only meters away is a fantastic links golf course. If not, those who prefer the water can go paddle boarding, kayaking or kitesurfing. Hayle is a fantastic place to attempt kayaking, paddle boarding, and surfing if you're interested in water activities.

If taking it easy is more your style it is possible to go fishing right outside your front door. Or, if birdwatching is a hobby the location is renowned for its twitching potential as it is the most southerly RSPB Reserve. Come spot a Golden Plover, Wigeon, Godwit, Redshank, Teal, Heron, Cormorant, Gull or Crow to name a few. Nature abounds at the location with guests repeatedly spotting Seals from the comfort of their beds to Glow Worms on an evening stroll.

The village of Lelant is well served with two great local pubs, a wonderful bistro and fabulous bird watching cafe. Enjoy a morning stroll with breathtaking views by using the West Coastal Path. Porth Kidney Beach welcomes dogs year-round and as many families are not complete without their four legged friend Ferryman's is a wonderful place to start the day with your pet. The Hounds report back that the beach is "paw-fect".

If you feel like a walk further a field it is possible to walk via the beach into Carbis Bay and enjoy the location where world leaders congregated for the G7 in 2020 and enjoyed a Cornish Beach BBQ. The location was chosen to impress President's and Prime Minister's as it is indisputably "World Class", something many famous artists became aware of hundreds of years ago when the likes of Whistler was first attracted to the special St. Ives "light". Ferryman's has its own artistic history as it was the home and studio of John Miller who forever captured the beauty of the location in his iconic seascapes. Indeed one of the paintings of location being used for Chris Rea's "King of the Beach" Album Cover. The location has also inspired writers and the famous local author Rosamunde Pilcher described the walk to the house as her favourite walk: "My favourite walk is at Lelant, down the road past the Church onto the golf course. You see the bay and the colours, and it's never the same - it's just perfect."

A little further on you from Lelant you can enjoy fantastic cafes, pubs, and restaurants as you stroll down the South West Coastal Route into St Ives and visit the Tate or the many charming traditional Cornish towns nearby. Easy day outings include the Eden Project, Lands End, Minack Theatre, St. Michael's Mount, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

We know we have the keys to a magical destination. We want to share that with our guests so that they too can tap into the peace and calm that our guests repeatedly enjoy having stayed at Ferryman's Rest. The remarkable experience of staying at the location provides many of our guests with precious memories, that feel better, are worth more and last longer than many life’s more fleeting likes.

For friends or family looking for sunlight, the sea, and clean Cornish air, this seaside property is perfect.

It's a great place to unwind after a day at the beach and perfect for those who might just wish to stroll along the sand under the moon and stars at night to gaze at the moonlit water and feel the sand between their toes! It is such a romantic experience that several guests have popped the question and tied the knot whilst staying! It is hard to find a more perfect romantic setting for a Proposal that is sure to be replied with the answer “Yes!" Definitely a place to respond with a "Yes!"

Our family of six had a wonderful week at Ferryman's Rest enjoying the relaxed beach vibe and stunning views. Nicola's communication was 100% and we will definitely be rebooking with her in the future.

Had a lovely time at Nicola’s place. House was very nice, the surroundings and view was absolutely amazing. Nicola provided very clear information and guidance for everything. Easy checkin and checkout, lots of towels provided, everything was great. Everyone enjoyed it the kids and adults. Strongly recommended.

Five Stars

By Dennis on 10-Jun-2024

The description in Air B&B does not do the place service. The house is located about 150m downhill from St Uni’s church. The beach (did friendly) is about 30 seconds away. The house has all the amenities you would wish for and for us being right on the Coastal Trail made it a fabulous place from which to walk to the pristine beaches of Carbis Bay and beyond. Best to use luggage with good wheels or a backpack as house is a walk from the road, but it is well worth it!

Beautiful

By Neena on 10-Sep-2023

The cottage was in a beautiful surrounding and so near the sea. It was a delight to wake up to the sea views. We had the best weather as well. Nicola was very responsive and so any issues we had were resolved quickly. The sea was sandy and great to swim in. We even managed to see a seal. The hot tub was also an added bonus which we enjoyed daily post a swim. We cooked most nights and the lounge/dining area was really great for working and relaxing in. This was one of the best holidays I have had with my family.

Excellent Location and Views

The location & views were brilliant, the beach is isolated so no over crowding . Nicola the Host was very accommodating.
