Description
With an abundance of charm and character, La Garenne's 4 romantic thatched cottages are delightfully situated in a peaceful country valley with glorious views and well tended gardens, sloping down to the River Blavet. Superbly renovated, with high quality interiors, it has been said that these cottages, which date back over 200 years, are amongst the most beautiful in Brittany.La Grange is a beautiful large cottage fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, 2 fridges, a freezer and washing machine. It has a magnificent 45ft long open-plan downstairs with a large fireplace in the lounge. There are 3 bedrooms - a master bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room, 2 twin bedrooms, one with 3 single beds and one with 2 single beds, and a family bathroom. Each cottage has its own private patio with garden furniture, BBQ and private parking. In summer Brittany is light until much later than in the UK. You can barbecue dinner in our beautiful grounds soaking up the warm evening sun and enjoy the lovely views with your favourite tipple.
La Garenne is owned by Greg Poole of Select Cottages, who has been letting cottages for 25 years and has a wealth of experience in providing high quality accommodation. We are constantly upgrading and improving our cottages to keep abreast of the high expectations of our holidaymakers. Please contact me or visit our website where you can see videos of La Garenne, more photos and book online.
Our grounds have colourful flowers and extensive areas of lawn. Facilities include table tennis, badminton, swings, and heated swimming pool with terrace, loungers, alarm and security fence with lockable gate. The 3 acres of fenced grounds provide plenty of room for a game of football or to run free. The scenic tow-path accessed through a lockable gate at the bottom of our garden is hugely popular with our guests for both walking, jogging and cycling. La Garenne is a safe and friendly place for children and the views are magnificent.
West Wake Water Park is only 3 minutes drive from La Garenne providing fabulous family entertainment with giant water inflatables and slides, wake boarding electric boats, paddle boards, water skiing, bar, restaurant, wi-fi and more. Our local town Languidic with all facilities including a market day is approximately 5 minutes drive. There are also many historic towns with wonderful market days, all on a different day, 15 to 30 minutes drive. Several superb sandy beaches are 20-30 minutes drive. The river is popular for fishing. Canoeing & kayaking are available locally. Cycle hire with delivery to La Garenne is also available locally, all you need to bring are your helmets. Sandy beaches 20 - 30 minutes by car.
In the area: Carnac with its famous Megalithic stones and excellent beach is 30 - 40 minutes. There are 5 golf courses within 40 minutes. Stroll or cycle on the tow-path watching the herons and cormorants fishing in the river. Access the towpath besides the river through our gate with a stiff latch located at the top of the gate so only adults and teenagers can undo the latch.

The valley of the River Blavet is known as the Vallee Verte (Green Valley). It is a conservation area and La Garenne sits on its own with magnificent views south across the valley. It really is a unique location and your first glimpse of La Garenne is from about 1km away as you drive up the little lane beside the river.
The area is also a haven for wildlife. One visitor spotted over 40 different types of bird in one week, including cormorants, herons and kingfishers on the river. The valley is peaceful, the air fresh and the stars at night are something to behold.
Booklets on Brittany, tourist information on things to see and do, suggested restaurants and a full house information folder are there to help you get the best out of your stay.
Our Caretaker, the vivacious Jeanine is ever present with her French joie-de-vivre. She spends endless hours tending our gardens, ensuring every detail is taken care of and simply adores La Garenne.
La Garenne's stunning location comprising 4 cottages has been used for many special occasions - be it a birthday, anniversary, family reunion, golf or corporate gathering? La Garenne is perfect for up to 20. Just let us know the occasion and we can arrange to have something special in the cottage for your arrival. La Grange and La Chaumiere can be linked to create accommodation for 10-12.
With a mild climate La Garenne is also ideal for an Autumn break. Imagine curling up on the sofa with a good book and glass of fine red wine in front of a roaring log fire on a crisp autumn evening. In fact, tell us what time you are arriving and Jeanine will have your cottage warm, beds turned down, log fire crackling with wine, bottle opener and glasses ready on the kitchen table for you.
Each cottage has both electric heating and a huge wood burning fireplace. From 1 May to 30 September, everything is fully inclusive, so firewood and electricity are included in the price.
Sorry, we do not allow pets at any of our properties.

Leave ReviewLa Grange
By Bryony on 18-Jan-2024We had a wonderful family holiday staying at La Grange - my parents, and our family of four (two children 6 and under). The house (and the site in general) is beautiful, well maintained and well equipped, and the surrounding countryside is absolutely idyllic. We enjoyed cycling along the river and the kids loved the pool and exploring the enormous garden! We found our way to lots of local attractions through the very helpful guestbook, such as the markets and a medieval living history museum, and the wonderfully varied beaches of South Brittany were easily accessible for a day trip. Highly recommended! We would love to return one day.
Otterly Lovely
By Sam on 13-Jul-2023This must be one of the most tranquil spots in France. Surrounded by trees and nature and a river that you share only with otters. We had such a restorative week and will be recommending Le Grange and all these cottages to everyone we know!
Happiness
By Clive on 21-Sep-2020We stayed initially for 10 days then extended by 3 days ( better ferry). Would have stayed another week to two as the weather was excellent. So relaxing and with the river at the gate, cycling for 6 hours (return) was wonderful alongside the river. Bottom line: my wife asked ‘how much would you think they would want to sell to us?’ Reply was ‘ more than we could afford’. Been back a week and would go back today, (retired). Impressed with the quality of kitchen utensils/integral washing machine/dishwasher etc. One small winge was that for my wife (who has had a hip replacement) the toilets are up the stairs. But otherwise we would have moved in for a very long stay (if we could afford to) But please do not go when I next wish to as the silence of being by ourselves with the song birds and the river with the evening sunset was sublime.
A review from a 3x visitor to La Grange and beautiful Brittany and again it delivers. Highly recommend
By Leslie on 05-Sep-2020We have now visited Select Cottages 3x in the last 3 years, call us boring but we hang so much on a couple of weeks away with the family it just needs to work and for us La Grange and Brittany ticks all the boxes. We are a family of 4 which include 2 tired and overworked parents (the norm) and 2 very energic boys of 8 and 10 years of age. Quite simply I book La Grange because of its location (stunning), service (first class) and location (Brittany has so many things to do). I would challenge anyone to arrive and not be blown away by the location. The River Blavet is well I’ll struggle to describe it you’ll have to see it which is easy as it’s at the end of the garden. Casually spot otters, kingfishers, cormorants and fish if you like and, in the evening away from the citylight go stargazing and maybe you’ll see an owl……. The property comfortably fits us, a little decadent for 4 as it would easily sleep the 7+1 quoted. It’s well-appointed and encourages cooking and eating as a family inside and out. The bonus of La Grange as well as its size is a private garden / eating area not overlooked which is a nice option. We have also stayed at Le Fournil, a smaller option sleeping 4 +1 also lovely and nicely positioned particularly for families with smaller children as you open out your cottage onto the ample grounds. I could ramble on for many more paragraphs on the various activities you can get up to; markets, canoeing, fishing, medieval villages, wake parks, beeches (so quiet), food (obviously) but I won’t, come and explore Brittany yourself you won’t be disappointed and La Grange and Select Cottages give you the perfect platform to do so. My only extra tip is relax and don’t put yourself under pressure to do everything there is to do. The temptation is to go out every day just don’t forget to enjoy and chill at the property, Brittany early evening sun around the pool is what it’s all about. I’d highly recommend La Grange or any of the properties on the site. I only book places that keep on delivering and don’t rest on their laurels and the biggest complement I can give is that we’re going back again next year. Call us boring but in these days post COVID I need to know my money guarantees an excellent holiday and La Grange certainly does.
La Garenne
By Denis on 11-Aug-2019We had a wonderful time at La Grange. The house was lovely and spacious, the surroundings were beautiful and the grandchildren enjoyed the pool and the swings. As ever, Jeanine was friendly and helpful. The gardens were beautifully kept and are her pride and joy. She delivered a rose for each lady every few days, a lovely touch. We made some nice day trips to Carnac, Plouay, Henebont, La Rochelle en Terre and Josselin.
