Overview
Description
La Chaumiere looks out over the Blavet valley with nothing but our ancient cider press in the foreground, which Jeanine, our caretaker, has colourfully adorned with geraniums. You will not cease to be astounded at the beautiful view on every occasion that you steal a glance out of the cottage windows! La Chaumiere is one of four romantic thatched cottages at La Garenne. Superbly renovated, with high quality interiors, it has been said that these cottages, which date back over 200 years, are amongst the most beautiful in Brittany.Downstairs La Chaumiere has an open plan interior, with living, kitchen and dining areas intertwined beneath the historic beams. Upstairs, La Chaumiere has a double bedroom, a twin bedroom with a double and single bed sleeping three and a bathroom with separate bath and shower units. A cot is available on request. La Chumiere's kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher, 2 fridges, and a freezer. La Chaumiere also has a spacious verandah where you can sit and enjoy watching the valley’s abundant birdlife over breakfast or an alfresco dinner.
La Garenne is owned by Greg Poole of Select Cottages, who has been letting cottages for 25 years and has a wealth of experience in providing high quality accommodation. We are constantly upgrading and improving our cottages to keep abreast of the high expectations of our holidaymakers. Please contact me or visit our website where you can see videos of La Garenne, more photos and book online.
Our grounds have colourful flowers and extensive areas of lawn. Facilities include table tennis, badminton, swings, and heated swimming pool with terrace, loungers, alarm and security fence with lockable gate. The 3 acres of fenced grounds provide plenty of room for a game of football or to run free. The scenic tow-path accessed through a lockable gate at the bottom of our garden is hugely popular with our guests for both walking, jogging and cycling. La Garenne is a safe and friendly place for children and the views are magnificent.
West Wake Water Park is only 3 minutes drive from La Garenne providing fabulous family entertainment with giant water inflatables and slides, wake boarding electric boats, paddle boards, water skiing, bar, restaurant, wi-fi and more. Our local town Languidic with all facilities including a market day is approximately 5 minutes drive. There are also many historic towns with wonderful market days, all on a different day, 15 to 30 minutes drive. Several superb sandy beaches are 20-30 minutes drive. The river is popular for fishing. Canoeing & kayaking are available locally. Cycle hire with delivery to La Garenne is also available locally, all you need to bring are your helmets. Sandy beaches 20 - 30 minutes by car.
In the area: Carnac with its famous Megalithic stones and excellent beach is 30 - 40 minutes. There are 5 golf courses within 40 minutes. Stroll or cycle on the tow-path watching the herons and cormorants fishing in the river. Access the towpath besides the river through our gate with a stiff latch located at the top of the gate so only adults and teenagers can undo the latch.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Private heated swimming pool with level 1m shallow end and slope to 2.0m deep end. Small baby pools available. Full paved terrace. Plenty of loungers with cushions and parasols. Security alarm, discreet safety fence and lockable gate, ensuring young children are safe at all times.

If there is an unseasonally cold spell this may alter by a degree or two.

All inclusive prices - there are no extras! Linen and towels (including tea towels), cleaning and welcome hamper are included in the rental price. An initial supply of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, hand soaps, toilet paper, sponges, scourers and other cleaning items will be there in the cottage for your arrival. There is generally enough of each item for several days. Final clean at the end of your stay is also included in the holiday price.
The valley of the River Blavet is known as the Vallee Verte (Green Valley). It is a conservation area and La Garenne sits on its own with magnificent views south across the valley. It really is a unique location and your first glimpse of La Garenne is from about 1km away as you drive up the little lane beside the river.
The area is also a haven for wildlife. One visitor spotted over 40 different types of bird in one week, including cormorants, herons and kingfishers on the river. The valley is peaceful, the air fresh and the stars at night are something to behold.
Booklets on Brittany, tourist information on things to see and do, suggested restaurants and a full house information folder are there to help you get the best out of your stay.
Our Caretaker, the vivacious Jeanine is ever present with her French joie-de-vivre. She spends endless hours tending our gardens, ensuring every detail is taken care of and simply adores La Garenne.
La Garenne's stunning location comprising 4 cottages has been used for many special occasions - be it a birthday, anniversary, family reunion, golf or corporate gathering? La Garenne is perfect for up to 20. Just let us know the occasion and we can arrange to have something special in the cottage for your arrival. La Grange and La Chaumiere can be linked to create accommodation for 10-12.
With a mild climate La Garenne is also ideal for an Autumn break. Imagine curling up on the sofa with a good book and glass of fine red wine in front of a roaring log fire on a crisp autumn evening. In fact, tell us what time you are arriving and Jeanine will have your cottage warm, beds turned down, log fire crackling with wine, bottle opener and glasses ready on the kitchen table for you.
Each cottage has both electric heating and a huge wood burning fireplace. From 1 May to 30 September, everything is fully inclusive, so firewood and electricity are included in the price.
Sorry, we do not allow pets at any of our properties.

Beautiful and peaceful cottage complex
By Phil on 04-Aug-2020A stunning property in a beautiful area of rural France. The river is a minute walk away at the bottom of the property and can be seen whilst sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s a 5-10 minute drive to the nearest village where you’ll find a decent supermarket and boulangerie.
