Overview
Description
Sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms (one king, one twin). It has sliding patio doors and an airy open-plan ground floor, leading to a sunny, fully enclosed garden. It is a very dog-friendly cottage.Dittiscombe Estate is a 20-acre conservation valley, all managed for the enjoyment of guests who have exclusive access to the nature trail which winds through woodland and meadows. Dogs are welcome as there is plenty of space to walk and play safely in the garden and grounds.
During the school summer holidays there is a Family Nature Walk every Sunday through the Estate with local ecologist Ken Neal which is free to Dittiscombe guests. There are also seasonal Forest Bathing sessions and more information about these can be given on request.
The sitting area features a stone-built fireplace and surround with a flame-effect electric fire and storage heater, Wifi and TV with streaming, bookshelves, two double sofas and coffee tables.
The fully-equipped kitchen area has a ceramic hob, microwave, electric oven and storage heater, and the dining area has an extending oak dining table and four chairs.
The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a bath with electric shower over, an electric fan heater and storage heater, basin and toilet.
Upstairs there is a galleried landing which leads to the two bedrooms. The main bedroom has low, ancient rafters and a kingsize bed; the second bedroom has two single beds. Both bedrooms have storage heaters.
One step through the patio doors takes you to the fully enclosed level garden which is surrounded by trees, hedges, climbers, a stone wall and fencing. Wooden tables, chairs and a bench all sit on a gravelled area with garden pots and climbers, with a further area of lawn in front. A wooden gate leads to Willows garden next door.
Dittiscombe is set in the heart of the South Hams, most of which is within the South Devon National Landscape. It's about 2 miles (or a 10 minute care ride) from historic Slapton Village, Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve and the unspoilt beaches of Start Bay (all are dog-friendly). The pretty estuary towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe are all within a 30 minute drive away.

Leave ReviewJust wonderful
By Maxine Denham on 02-Jan-2025Our time at Rafters was just wonderful the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of life. We were made to feel extremely welcome on arrival and all the information provided was so helpful from the beaches and places to eat as well as more practical information. The cottage was just so cosy and welcoming. The Estate is simply stunning with beautiful views and access to the woodland and land such a privilege. The peace and quiet of the valley was just what we needed. We definitely plan to go back.

Beautiful, tranquil setting
By Mr & Mrs Shrubb on 27-Mar-2023We really enjoyed our stay in such a beautiful, tranquil setting. We felt very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Our dogs loved the space in the cottage to stretch out, and private garden. We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely book again.
