This is our 3rd visit, staying in Millsyde cottage. We are never disappointed. The quality of the cottage and its facilities is second to none. I would say a home from home, but it is possibly better than that. The owners are always on hand should you need them ready to oblige all your requests. It’s a shame to write this review as it may make it more difficult to book in future️
The cottage is everything that has been written about it; spacious (more so than the photos show), tranquil, wonderful for wildlife and well placed for so many visits in the eastern Borders (assuming they are open, of course). Each room is well set out and storage is huge. The kitchen is as good as anything we have encountered. The bed we used was very comfortable. We saw Barn Owls, heard other owls, saw heron, buzzards, stoats, many hares and several deer, all from the house or lane. Gentle walks are on hand and there's the odd surprise - there is a monument to the author of "Rule Britannia", born in Ednam, about a mile away and easily walkable. Mobile reception is variable and not always easy to obtain; not all makes of smart phone link to the Wi-Fi. Communication from Sue was swift , first class and very friendly; we were delighted to have a couple of chats with each of the owners, Sue and Henry Beck. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Millsyde Cottage as a quality stay
Impossible to fault any aspect of Millsyde and Sue’s attention to detail. The beds are extremely comfortable, the heating and modern design keep everywhere snug. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with appliances and above all outside the air is fresh and all you hear is bird song!
There is a reason we have been staying at Hendersyde for 12 years. Millsyde is ideal for our family, plenty of space inside & out for teenagers!! Added bonus of table tennis table and plenty of family games. The Cottage, as always, was immaculate as was the surrounding garden. If you want peace and quiet then Millsyde is ideal, the only noise you'll hear is the occasional owl or geese flying over and if you're lucky you might see the combine harvester in the surrounding fields. Lots of local walks, some starting from the farm. Ideal location for local rail link as well, 30 minutes to Tweedbank Station and direct train into Edinburgh. Sue Beck couldn't be more helpful and always has new recommendations for places to visit for all ages. Nothing is too much trouble for Sue. We shall be returning for our 13th year next year.
