Description
Moulin De Malineau is a 200 year old, stone mill house situated in 4 acres of gardens surrounded by a small lake. The gardens feature a variety of trees and scrubs together with plum, peach, apple, fig and cherry trees. The area also features a wide variety of wildlife including, kingfishers, hen-harriers, buzzards, sparrow hawks and lizards and the mill is surrounded by meadows and sunflower fields. Moulin De Malineau is situated in a small village called Messac and it is in an ideal location to easily reach the cities of Bordeaux, Angouleme and Cognac, together with the Atlantic beaches which are approximately 45 minutes away. The nearest village with amenities is Leoville, which is a couple of minutes by car and it has a Post Office, an Epiciery, two bakeries and a Tabac. Montendre is approximately ten minutes away and it has a good variety of shops and supermarkets. It also, during the summer has an excellent night market on Tuesday evenings and a street market on Thursdays. Jonzac is approximately fifteen minutes drive from Messac and features a very impressive Chateau, a larger range of shops, a Cinema and an excellent variety of good quality restaurants. There is also Les Antilles which is an excellent water park, with a Casino, excellent Spa facilities, which are very popular with visitors to Jonzac and it is also possible to take a flight in a hot air balloon. There are also two indoor markets on a Tuesday and a Friday and an excellent night market on Wednesday evenings with live music.
Moulin De Malineau has two three bedroom Gites, Monet and Matisse, each of which can sleep up to six people. Monet has three bedrooms upstairs and features exposed beams and stone walls. There is a large double room, a twin room and a family room with a double bed and two singles. Downstairs there is an open plan Dining/Kitchen area with both being well defined, together with a living area with two sofa beds, SAT TV/DVD and french doors which lead out onto a shaded, gravelled area looking out over the lake. This area is an ideal spot for outside dining. The Kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, full sized oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker and large dining table and chairs to seat up to ten people.
Matisse has a family bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one twin. Again, the living/dining/kitchen areas are open plan with a fully equipped kitchen. The summer of 2018 was my first as a Gite owner after retiring as a secondary school teacher. I hope that you will read the reviews form my guests and get a positive impression of what is on offer here. I wanted to rent out my Gites for a limited time to begin with in 2018 but now I am fully prepared to offer further weeks during this year. With the up and coming Olympics in France in 2024 there will be several events based in Bordeaux which is reached from here by car and train in a little less than an hour. Also, Paris can be reached by TGV train from Bordeaux in just over two hours. This is of course where the Athletics and other events will be based.
