Description

Overdale self catering holiday cottage has been refurbished in 2018 and is a charming traditional old Yorkshire village cottage.

Overdale Cottage is a cosy semi-detached, pet friendly cottage, sitting in the sleepy village of Harome, which is three miles from the market town of Helmsley. Sited on the edge of the North York Moors National Park it is the perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire moors and countryside!

Originally the owners house, it has been lovingly restored and decorated, and it will sleep up to 4 people along with their pets. It has all you need for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The cottage is well located for exploring the stunning Yorkshire moorlands and countryside to the North, it is a 40 minute drive to the historic city of York with its stunning Minster, a variety of beautiful shops, and of course the famous Betty’s Tearooms, and many other cafes, offering a warm welcome to shoppers and sightseers alike. A forty minute drive to the east coast offers many a delightful day on the beach or coastal paths, or mooching around the beautiful seaside towns.

Overdale cottage is ideal for walkers, cyclists, sightseers or just a quiet retreat to relax and recharge.

We warmly welcome dogs as we know they enjoy holidays too like any family member does, there are certainly plenty of walks and adventures for them here in Yorkshire.

Tastefully furnished with Laura Ashley and Wrendale, our beautiful cottage has that homely feel and character of an old village cottage. The sitting room features an attractive stone hearth and open fire, just perfect for a relaxing evening to snuggle up after a long day of exploring. Our leather settee and Ekornes Stressless Voyage chairs offer that perfect comfort you may crave! There is a TV, and DVD player with a selection on DVDs, you can just close the Highland check curtains and hideaway……………

The country-style cream, well-equipped kitchen with solid beech worktops includes a dishwasher, washing machine, freestanding fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster, oven and electric hob with a view of the extensive back garden where pets and children alike can burn off some steam whilst waiting for supper. Our lovely dining room has a sociable round oak topped table with a two seater leather settee tucked away to snuggle up for some “me on my own time”.

There is a small downstairs wc and washbasin great for convenience at the rear of the house whilst having a BBQ in the garden.

Upstairs, there are two beautiful bedrooms offering delightful countryside views, and the village scene. We have a very spacious master bedroom with a king size bed and a cosy twin room with two single beds. The family bathroom has an invigorating Grohe over bath shower, a bath perfect for soaking to relaxation, along with the wc and washbasin.

Outside, to the rear there is an extensive lawned fenced and doggy proof garden for doggy games and exercise, along with some patio furniture providing a perfect setting for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine after a busy day exploring your surroundings.

There is also a stone shed available for cycle storage, fishing tackle, or those muddy walking boots, along with a buddy boot / mucky paw wash!

To the front of the cottage there is a gravelled off road parking area with secure pet fencing and gates, overlooking the main street, straight opposite the old red telephone box. The small village of Harome is lined with pretty stone cottages some with thatched roofs. There is a lovely village pond, as well as two award-winning inns, The Star Inn and The Pheasant, both being Michelin starred restaurants.

The pretty market town of Helmsley, just three miles away, has a good selection of amenities including pubs, delis and restaurants, as well as the inviting cafes and bookshops which encircle the historic cobbled market square. Helmsley Castle and the Walled Garden, Duncombe Park gardens and parklands, with a Bird of Prey Centre, are all there to be enjoyed.

From Overdale Cottage, there is easy access to the pretty coastal seaside towns of Whitby, and Scarborough, with Robin Hoods Bay worth a visit. The stunning North Yorkshire Moors and fantastic breathtaking views, are also home to the pretty village of Goathland nestled amongst them, for the ‘Heartbeat’ TV Series enthusiasts and Harry Potter fans this was a popular filming location that I’m sure you will recognise.

The lively market town of Pickering lies twelve miles east of Harome and offers markets along the main street, along with museums, a trout fishing lake and the terminus of the North York Moors Steam Railway a popular attraction not to be missed. With so many attractions to enjoy in the area, Overdale Cottage provides the perfect base for a wonderful holiday and wonderful memories……..let the adventures and relaxing begin………

The owner, Sue put every effort in to make sure our stay was as relaxing and as hassle free as possible. The cottage itself is beautifully cosy and fully equipped - we especially loved the rain shower, the bedding and the huge garden is an absolute joy for young children. The area is a great base for exploring and we will certainly be returning at some point in 2019.
