Description

Situated within the Howardian Hills National Landscape, and with stunning far reaching views over to the North York Moors National Park, Kirkdale Cottage is an ideal base for exploring the best of North Yorkshire's moors, dales and forest trails. Tucked away in tranquil countryside, guests can escape the hustle and bustle of every day life yet be within easy reach of picturesque dog friendly Helmsley (under 2 miles by car or a country ramble), Castle Howard, York and Whitby. Kirkdale cottage is a unique converted 18th century farm building, featuring timbered ceilings and exposed stone walls, renovated to a high standard. The living room has a log burner, two sofas (seating five) and window seat. A new wood floor was fitted in November 2023. The living room opens into the dining area (a refectory Wren Man table and six chairs) and kitchen. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, full size fridge freezer, and washing machine. Upstairs there are three bedrooms: bedroom 1 has a king size bed which can also be split into two single beds; bedroom 2 has a (fixed) double bed; and bedroom 3 has a single bed. The bathroom has a toilet, hand basin and shower cubicle. Dogs love our enclosed dog exercise paddock and quiet country walks from the doorsteps. Kirkdale Cottage is one of four holiday cottages at Sproxton Hall Cottages. All benefit from the shared use of our extensive grounds which include a courtyard garden with outdoor furniture, a large lawned area with picnic benches, and onsite parking. An EV charger is available. Popular with couples and families throughout the year, guests choose our cottages for relaxation and fresh air, for walking and cycling, and for catching up with friends and family. Guests enjoy Michelin star dining in nearby Harome and Oldstead.Discover local history at Ampleforth and Rievaulx Abbeys, and the stunning views of Sutton Bank/White Horse. York is approximately 23 miles away and has been voted Britains most popular city due to its castle, walls, museums, shops and Minster; it is particularly popular with our guests whatever the weather. The picturesque steam railway from Pickering crosses Goathland/Heartbeat country to the coast at Whitby; Flamingo Land (near Malton) offers a different kind of day out - with its zoo and theme park. Following in the footsteps of James Herriot, guests can visit the museum at his former vets surgery in nearby Thirsk and explore the film locations on a day out in the Yorkshire Dales.

Perfect Country Cottage

By Jacobus on 01-Jan-2024

Perfect country cottage. 10 out of 10 Liked · Cottage & hosts were fantastic, as well as the people in the village of Sproxton. We felt right at home from the get-go. Great fireplace + wood. Disliked · Difficult walk to a pub (in winter - very muddy) on a public footpath. 10 out of 10 for cleanliness, staff, value for money, comfort & facilities. 7.5 out of 10 for location

Kirkdale Cottage - revisted

By Neil on 31-Dec-2023

We had a lovely few days at Sproxton Hall during February half term. Dave and Helen had kindly let us rearrange our stay which was cut short during storms in November. The cottage was great for our family of 4 and our spaniel. The dog exercise area was an added bonus! Would love to come again in the summer.

Lovely week away

By Antony on 01-Sep-2023

Lovely week away hosted by Helen and Dave. Cottage is in a quiet location with lots of walks right from the front door. Dog friendly with the fenced paddock to let off lead right across the driveway. Cottage itself was well appointed and easy to relax in. Master bed was a little soft for our preference but everything else was good. Helmsley is a 5 minute drive or hour country walk away. Dave recommended some places to eat nearby and both were lovely. White swan for a Sunday roast and La Trattoria for an Italian. Hosts live in separate cottage on site and are approchable but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful stay!

By Marie on 01-Jul-2023

We had a wonderful stay! The hosts were super responsive to messages, they allowed us time to settle in and popped over to check that we were OK. The surroundings were super peaceful and lovely, and our dog Charlie loved free roaming in the paddock. Highly recommend staying here.
