We supply a lovely welcome pack and personalised gifts to take away. The cottage is semi detached, 17th century old farmhouse and shares a yard with its own off road parking for 2+ cars.
We are very dog friendly with a secure garden and free use of the dog exercise paddock. Every dog gets it's very own welcome pack!

The cottage has a welcoming rustic kitchen with all mod cons to make your holiday a real pleasure. The large, pine, kitchen table easily seats 8 so you can invite friends to join you for a meal. The kitchen has patio doors out to another table for extended alfresco dining. The antique cottage dresser is filled with every piece of crockery you could need and decorated with our lovely blue and white pots. The kitchen has a large electric cooker with double oven, 4 hot plates and grill. All kitchen essentials are included – dishwasher, fridge & freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, pans and ovenware.

We supply a starter pack of tea-towel, eco friendly washing up liquid & dishwasher tablets and bin bags. In the kitchen is the recycling box for food scraps and we encourage our guests to use the council collected waste recycling or put fresh vegetable scraps in the compost bin in the garden. The iron + board are stored in the utility room alongside the washer and tumble dryer. There are USB charging points in the kitchen.

The comfortable lounge has cream leather sofas plus an easy chair which can be used at the games/reading area or brought forward to sit around the fire. The flat screen colour TV + DVD player hosts a collection of DVD’s for the family to watch. The open fire which all our guest’s dogs love, comes with an initial supply of logs and more can be bought, at cost, if needed.
The games table hosts a selection of family games and the bookcase is packed with various books, many are from local authors or are about the area or country themed stories.
The table lamp has 2 USB charging points for your convenience.
The open plan wooden staircase to the upper floor goes from the corner of the lounge.

Ground Floor Single Bedroom

The garden has been made dog friendly There are poo pickers and extra poo bags provided in the doggy box in the utility room. As much as we have tried we cannot guarantee that your dog will not escape! Do stay with them, sit and enjoy the views.

Dog exercise paddock
Guests with dogs have free use of the dog exercise paddock next to the garden - this is a great way to let your dogs play without having to leave the property at all!

Nature Garden
The nature garden has been left wild for the birds and small animals that frequent our gardens. Look out for the bird boxes and the swallows who return each summer to next in and around the stables. There is a bug hotel hanging on the stable wall.

Rabbits and hedgehogs frequent the garden and yard and look over the fence into the fields you may see curlew and lapwings, hares and the occasional passing deer. In the early night time hours you will hear the owls and bats which live around us and up in the rocks across the road.

Very enjoyable stay

By Janet Ulph on 25-Apr-2024

We had a very enjoyable stay at Rough Top cottage. The cottage is very spacious with a fabulous kitchen and boot room. It is very homely with loads of extra touches, flowers, welcome pack, dog treats and a laid fire just to mention a few. Our 3 dogs settled immediately to their comfy surroundings. Despite the awful weather, it rained for most of the week, we managed to get out and about. Hardcastle crags are great for the dogs to explore. Unfortunately we were unable to use the paddock due to wetness but utilised the well enclosed garden. Sandra and Brian are excellent hosts being on hand for any queries that arose. The views from the cottage are stunning and we spent some time watching snowy owls surveying their surroundings, amazing. A very relaxing break in beautiful surroundings for all made extra special by the care and attention of our hosts Sandra and Brian

This was a beautiful place to stay.

This was a beautiful place to stay. We don’t feel the photos do justice to the beautifully spacious and wonderfully equipped kitchen. Thank you for laying out the fire for us and providing us with plenty of fuel for a very cosy stay. Bedrooms are very comfortable, bathrooms are great too. The location turned out to be perfect for exploring a magical area (with or without a dog!) and we definitely want to come back and see it all at other times of year. The views from the garden and patio are stunning. Best of all was the hosting! We felt so well looked after, it really added something special to our holiday. You just don’t get such lovely personal attention on other booking platforms, and we will certainly be booking through independent Cottages again. Thank you from us all.

Fab time had by all

By Jill Hughes on 30-Jun-2023

We stayed at Rough Top Cottage for a week and the whole process was really smooth and efficient. Our two dogs Portueges Pointers loved the paddock - we bedded these two in the tiled spacious entrance hall ideal for bigger dogs. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped plus the owners left lovely welcome gifts - at the weekend the grown up kids arrived for a big family reunion in Halifax. During our week we went to fly with witches at Pendle, to Bickerstaff where friends live [an easy trip] Hebden Bridge of course - fab time had by all
